"How did the eting go?" Sabrina asked as she walked into the room allocated to her parents. It was right next to hers, so as soon as they ca back, she had gotten out of bed and headed for their room. Just because she wasn't in the eting didn't an she didn't want to know what had transpired.
"Sabrina," Lady Arora called as she walked into the room. She stood to greet her daughter.
Sabrina walked closer to the bed and looked at her father; he didn't even spare her a glance. "What happened, Mother?" Sabrina asked.
"Well, your father was rude to the Primus. I know we don't want a human as his mate, but dear," she turned to him, "don't you think that was a little too much? You could have angered the Primus."
Lord Garth didn't respond. Instead, he curled and uncurled his fists. He was still fuming. "A re human," he mumbled.
Sabrina was a little shocked by the situation. "Well, we can't all pretend we didn't see this coming," she comnted.
Lord Garth shot his daughter a look that could pierce through stone. "What the hell are you talking about?"
Sabrina almost lost her footing. She had never heard her father swear, let alone at her. He wasn't just angry; he was furious. Sabrina turned to her mother for help as she didn't know how to react.
"Dear, don't curse at your daughter," Lady Arora said and went to the bed to join her mate.
"If she had done what she needed to do, we wouldn't be in this ss!" Lord Garth accused.
Sabrina's vision blurred. "Done what? What could I have possibly done? Throw myself at the Primus so I'd get rejected like Jevera? At least I still have so dignity. The Levatons have to bow their heads in sha."
Lord Garth sneered. "I have seen that fireball. No one would want her as a mate."
"Father!" Sabrina called with wide eyes. She didn't even have the ti to appreciate the na her father called Jevera. "How can you say that?"
Sabrina didn't like Jevera. The redhead always had her nose in the air and acted like she was better than Sabrina. She shut Sabrina down every chance she got and wouldn't hesitate to call Sabrina a slut when it was pretty clear who the slut was. However, she couldn't help but defend her in front of her father.
Even though their relationship had soured over the decades, they had once been best friends. Not to ntion the way the Primus had treated Jevera over the years. Jevera had left the Levaton mansion and stayed with him for a full decade while he mourned his parents. He neither acknowledged her nor gave her affection, especially in public.
Everyone knew the sort of relationship they had and the fact that the Primus had easily tossed her aside for a human. That must be very humiliating and much as Sabrina enjoyed the outco of the situation, she wasn't blind to Jevera's feelings. Though she gravely blad Jevera and thought it served her right, she could still conjure so sympathy for her—just not in Jevera's presence, of course. She would rather burn to a crisp than let Jevera know she felt sorry for her. She was sure the feeling was mutual.
"Dear, you and Lord Levaton are friends. It isn't right to speak about his daughter in that manner," Lady Arora scolded.
"So, are we all going to just fold our hands and watch a human beco the Primus' mate? To mark a human—how low have we fallen?" Lord Garth's words dripped with disgust.
"What do you want to do about it? He already marked her. It's not like he can take a wet cloth and wipe it off. Maybe if you'd marked Mother, you'd understand," Sabrina snapped.
Lady Arora's eyes widened in horror, and her father looked even paler. Sabrina knew she had said more than she should have. She had only been trying to convince her father and was angry that he would find a way to fault her over this when it was clearly no one's fault.
"I am sorry," she mumbled, taking a step closer. "I didn't an what I—"
"Outside, now!" Lord Garth mumbled.
Sabrina stopped abruptly. Her father's voice wasn't angry, just cold. "Father, I am sorry," she said. "I was just so angry."
"Whose side are you on, anyway? I have seen how friendly you are with the human. Is this what you want? Is that why you're so supportive going as far as to speak disrespectfully to your parents? Are you happy? Is that why you never made any effort toward the Primus? I should have known I have nothing but a use—"
"Dear! That's enough!" Lady Arora said and stood to her feet, glaring down at her husband. "I don't understand why you're so angry about the matter. Yes, none of us want this, but it is pretty clear there is nothing we can do—or can be done, for that matter. Try to consider the situation and not take your anger out on your family."
"Father, Mother, I—" Sabrina began but was cut off by her mother.
"That's enough from you too, Sabrina. Go tend to your sister. I will see you during the last al."
Sabrina slowly nodded. She had been dismissed, and harshly so. Helana definitely didn't need tending; her mother just wanted her out of the room. However, she knew she had overstepped and terribly so.
It was pretty common for mates to remain unmarked. It didn't make their relationship any less, but it was still a subject unmarked mates were touchy about. For her to blatantly throw that in her parents' faces was very disrespectful.
It was odd how she was the only vampire happy with the current developnt. Did that say sothing about her character? That she would rather a human be the Primus' mate than Jevera? Was she that petty? However, it wouldn't explain being disrespectful to her parents for Mauve.
Regardless, she still stood by the notion that they should have seen this coming. Pretending otherwise was hypocritical. Sabrina sighed as she got to her room, she would have to find a proper way to apologize to her parents. Hopefully, they forgive her.
