Mauve didn't know how to react to Jael's harsh words and didn't realize she was crying until he pulled her to himself. He hadn't spoken to her this harshly in a very long ti, and she didn't think she had done anything wrong for him to yell at her like that. However, the instant he wrapped his arms around her and apologized, she imdiately felt better. Besides, she could hear how awful he felt in his voice, and she didn't want him to feel too bad as she did interrupt him.
From the tone of his voice when she had opened the door, she could tell what he was talking about was sothing that ant a lot to him. She wondered what it was. She had barely been able to make out any words except "regular" as she had co here in a rush and had pushed the door open in the sa manner.
"Well," Mauve said, looking up at Jael, cheering up very quickly. Her face was still littered with sprinkles of tears as she looked up at him. "Mill keeps calling 'My lady.' It is so weird, and I think Louis put her up to it."
Mauve heard a snicker and poked her head out from under Jael's arm to see Louis standing by Jael's seat. "I knew it!" she cried. "You put her up to it, didn't you?" she accused.
"If I said I did no such thing, would you believe ?" Louis asked with a smirk.
Jael pulled her out from under his arm so he could see her face again. "And what's so wrong with her calling you 'My lady'?" Jael asked with a serious expression, using his thumbs to wipe the tears off her face.
"I'm fine with Mauve," Mauve cried. "Louis calls Mauve, and she used to, and now she calls 'My lady' all of a sudden. I can bet my life that Louis put her up to this."
"I did not," Louis's voice reached her ears. "And don't bet your life so easily."
She stuck her head out from under Jael's arm to look at Louis. "Why? Are you worried lightning might strike you?" she asked, sticking out her tongue.
"I'm sure it won't, 'My lady,'" Louis said with a laugh.
Mauve gasped and was about to speak again, but Jael interrupted, pulling her head out from under his arm and holding her as she tried to fight to go back in there. "You see," she said, looking at Jael. "This was Louis's idea. I am certain."
"There is nothing wrong with Mill calling you that," Jael said, cupping her face while his other hand moved her hair out of her face.
"I won't answer," she mumbled.
Jael laughed, "Yes, you will."
"I don't like it."
"You have to get used to it," Jael said.
Mauve looked at Jael with horror on her face. "Why? She was calling Mauve yester—a few days ago."
"Well, things have changed."
She gave him an unimpressed look. "What are you talking about? Things don't change that fast."
"Here they do," he smirked.
"Jael, be serious!" she yelled. He seed to be in a better mood while she was getting more and more irritated. Everyone else seed too amused; she would occasionally hear Louis laugh at what she said.
"I am very serious," he said and caressed her face. Suddenly, he froze slightly and his eyes turned to the door. "What are they doing here?" he asked no one in particular.
Mauve pulled her face out of Jael's grip. "Who?" she asked, turning around to see Mill stepping aside. The door was still wide open, and almost imdiately, the trio appeared.
"What's happening? It's not every day the three of you converge in my study."
"Danag, Damon," she cried, purposefully leaving out Erick's na.
The three of them laid their eyes on her, and Mauve would have sworn they saw a ghost. Danag and Erick took a step forward in disbelief while Damon hung back, his face back to normal. Mauve imdiately looked behind her, wondering if she was missing sothing.
"What is the aning of this?" Jael asked as Danag and Erick seed to snap out of it.
"I apologize, Sire," Danag said with a bow. He stood upright and glanced in Mauve's direction as though he couldn't believe his eyes.
"Mill, kindly take Mauve to her room. Don't let her leave. I will be there shortly."
"What do you an, don't let her leave?" Mauve spat out.
"You can count on ," Mill said, pulling Mauve away.
Mauve fought, but she could tell it was a losing battle. It was easy to forget how strong Mill was compared to her, but sotis she rembered, and right now was one of those tis.
"Don't struggle, my lady. You will hurt yourself."
"Again with the 'my lady,'" Mauve cried, but she stopped fighting and let Mill lead her out of the study. She could tell Jael was about to discuss sothing important since not only Danag but Damon and Erick were there too. This was the only reason she quietly followed Mill back to her room.
"There must be a reason you call 'my lady' now," Mauve said as she sat on her bed.
At first, she didn't want to think about it, but she was almost certain sothing must have happened while she was fast asleep. Is that why Jael had reacted so weirdly when she pushed the door open? Was it what they were talking about?
"A reason," Mill frowned slightly and shook her head. "I just think it suits you best."
"I don't believe it does," Mauve said, rolling on the bed. "Nobody is taking seriously."
"I am very serious. I apologize if it looks like I am not."
"I don't want your apology. I want so explanation. Jael took it in stride as though I was making a fuss over nothing. Mill, I know you wouldn't suddenly start calling that without any reason."
