Mauve leaned into him as she expressed her gratitude and he held onto her. "How did you get her away?" She asked, curious about the details.

She hadn't asked before because Jael hadn't seed like he wanted to tell her anything about his plans.

Now that it was over, she wanted to know the details as she was sure Seraphino had not let Vae go willingly, she just wanted to be sure Jael didn't lose too much in the process.

"I ask Louis to steal her," he replied, locking eyes with her.

Mauve's brows furrowed. "What do you an to steal her?" She asked.

"Exactly what that entails," he replied with a smirk.

Mauve's eyes widened and she instinctively looked around, "Can you do that?" She asked and leaned closer, wondering why she dropped the volu of her voice.

"It's already done," he replied.

Mauve nodded. To be honest she didn't care about the process, just that Vae was out of that evil place. She could only imagine what the poor girl had to endure during the ti she spent there.

"Thank you," she whispered and turned around so her back was facing his front. She leaned into him as he wrapped her arms around his stomach.

"You're welco," he said and placed a kiss on the top of her head.

"I'd have liked to see her before she left," she whispered.

"I know and I regret not making that possible."

Mauve shook her head, "No, this is so much better. I already saw her once, that's enough. I am more concerned about you," she replied.

"What about ?" He frowned.

"Seraphino isn't going to sit back and cross his arms when he discovers she's missing."

"Of course not," he sounded amused. "But he's not going to accuse his Primus, is he?"

"True," Mauve mumbled.

"Enough about and the gloomy subject. What about you?" He asked. "What were you up to while I was listening to the boring Lord's complaints?"

Jael was so casual about the situation as though there was nothing to worry about. She let it go. If he was unbothered, she would be too.

"I was with Sabrina and Mill," she said eagerly. "They both wanted to teach them how to knit.

"Ooh, it sounds like you had fun."

"I wouldn't say fun but their company was nice," she retorted.

"I am sure.." He frowned and raised his head to look at the door.

"What?" She asked.

"Danag's here and he's not alone." Jael frowned.

Mauve stiffened, Jael's reaction made her wonder if sothing was wrong.

Two soft knocks echoed but Jael didn't even flinch. He kept his gaze on the door but didn't even attempt to say anything to the people behind it,

"Aren't you going to let them in?" Mauve asked.

"Of course not," he replied without hesitation. "I am hoping they will get the hint and leave us alone."

"Jael," she scolded, "It might be important."

"Even if it is, I am sure it can wait," he replied.

Another set of knocks followed, this ti it was louder than the first knock.

"Jael," Louis' voice suddenly rang out. "I know you're in there."

"What do you want?" Jael asked.

"This is important, let us in," Louis insisted.

"No, we can have this conversation later. Go away."

"I am coming in," Louis stubbornly said.

"Don't you dare!" Jael's thunderous voice echoed.

Mauve placed her palm and looked up at him.

"You're not serious?" He gave her a look of betrayal.

"I am sure it is important," Louis wouldn't be this adamant."

"Fine," he groaned. "Co in. You have ten minutes to state your business."

The door opened and Danag rushed in first, his head bent. Louis ca in after him and strutted straight for where Jael lay with Mauve on the bed.

"Co Danag," Jael said, ignoring Jael.

Danag nodded and pushed himself away from the door. He stopped a few feet away from the bed and bowed again.

Louis on the other hand has made himself comfortable and was crossing his legs as he sat on the sofa. His eyes t with Mauve and he wiggled his brows. She chuckled.

"What's this about?" Jael asked Danag.

"Lord Levaton ntioned he would like to have a word with you and would be grateful if you could spare him a couple of minutes."

Jael frowned, "Tell him, we could talk after the last al."

"Okay, thank you, Your Grace."

"Is that all?" Jael asked.

"I wanted to comnd your reaction…" Danag's words dried on his lips. "I guess it is best I keep my thoughts to myself."

"I am glad you can take the hint. Keep your good behavior and I might reconsider reappointing you as the head guard."

"I'd absolutely love that," Danag said and bowed again. "I shall inform Lord Levaton of your decision."

"Good, let know if anything cos up."

"Of course," Danag nodded and made his way to the door.

"Didn't you two co together?" Jael asked when it was obvious Louis had no plans to leave with Danag.

"Nope," Louis said and looked at his fingernails. "We just happened to run into each other on the way here."

"Why are you here then?" Jael asked darkly.

"Well, I figured you'd want to hear the full report on what had transpired during the impossible task you gave ."

"Not really," Jael said with a shrug. "I couldn't care for the details."

"Good, because I have no plans to recount the incident."

Jael frowned, "Then why are you here?"

"Vae wanted to give the princess a ssage."

Mauve brightened up imdiately and she sat upright. "She did? What did she say?" She asked.

"She wanted to give her thanks," he replied.

Mauve shook her head, "She shouldn't be thanking ."

"She should," they both said simultaneously. "I wouldn't have done that if it wasn't for you," Louis added.

"Thank you," she nodded. She could tell he was looking at her even though he was too far for her to see his face.

"Now that you have said your ssage, you may leave." Jael interrupted the mont.

"I am not done yet," Louis said stubbornly.

"And I don't care," Jael responded.

"Jael," Louis called in urgency. "I need you to listen to ."

"What?" Jael asked.

"Any mont now, Seraphino will find out the human is gone. I don't know how he would react but we should be prepared for the worst."

Jael chuckled, "He is not going to do anything and why are you worried about a Lord? He wouldn't dare go against ."

"I am not worried about you or Seraphino. I truly couldn't care less if he hacks your head off in your sleep. He would be doing a favor. I am worried about Mauve. He has gone after her before, don't think he won't do it again."

Mauve stiffened at Louis' words. The incident appeared in her mory in a flash. It was so vivid it made her stomach churn.

She had thought she was over it but it was still enough to ignite fear in her. She never wanted to be in such a situation again. It had scarred her in more ways than one.

"He wouldn't be able to get within ten feet of her," Jael said darkly, the air sizzling.

His arms around her stomach tightened and Mauve felt warm. She knew he ant every single word and that he would protect her.

She smiled despite herself, there was nothing to worry about while Jael was here.

"For your sake, I hope so but it wouldn't hurt to put extra security on her, at least for the period the vampires are here. After the party, you can return things to normal."

"There is no need for that, she will be by my side at all tis."

"Did you forget about the party tomorrow night? How are you going to keep watch over her while you're entertaining guests?"

"Easy," he shrugged. "She will be right there with ."

Louis' eyes widened, "You can't be serious."

Louis wasn't the only one with the sa reaction. Mauve was also looking at Jael as though he had grown a horn out of his head.

"I am," Jael said.

"Are you sure about this?" Mauve asked.

"Yeah," he said softly and touched the side of her face.

"Are you provoking the Lords? I don't even know what to say."

"She already ate with them. I am sure they can handle her presence at the party."

Louis sighed, "Whatever you say, I'll do my best to keep an eye on her. Just be careful and don't let her leave your side."

"You're awfully worried about Mauve," Jael said darkly. His tone said he didn't appreciate it.

"Yes, because she's human, and last I checked they die easily."

"I am not that weak," she cried.

"I am sure you think so."

"Louis, don't say that."

He sighed and touched his head. "I am just saying you should be careful."

"I know," she replied. "And I appreciate your worry."

"At least one of you is sensible enough to see how serious the issue is."
