Mauve watched Jael's expression turn a bit twisted but she didn't miss the flash of hurt. His expression quickly returned to neutral.

"No," he said. Just one word.

"Why not? I keep asking why but neither of you would tell…"

"Mauve, drop the subject. Even for you, that would be impossible."

She blinked, she didn't like his cold eyes. She knew Louis was away for a long ti and from bits and pieces she had picked up they had been pretty close.

Shouldn't that be enough reason to forgive Louis? However, this was Jael she was dealing with. His pride was the worst thing about him.

"I don't want to…"

"Why not? Why do you care so much about soone you don't even know? My business with Louis is mine to deal with. You don't have to concern yourself with it."

Mauve's face fell imdiately, she thought they were past this but he was still putting her at arm's length when it ca to certain matters be it personal or otherwise.

The fact that he would easily say this when he just called her the most important, hurt more than it should.

"I am sorry, I didn't an it like that," he said at her expression. She could see the worry in his eyes.

Mauve took a deep breath. She was hurt but she didn't want to dwell on it. She wasn't bringing Louis up to cause a rift between them.

"I am sure," she said, not hiding her displeasure.

Jael sighed, "This is why you should let it go. We should not let soone as unimportant as Louis cause a fight between us."

"Louis isn't unimportant. He is your brother," she said with a straight face.

She wasn't backing down no matter what Jael's reasons were. She knew she would forgive her family should they ask for her forgiveness but that was never going to happen. Besides, they weren't her family anymore. The vampires were.

"He was, not anymore. Not since he abandoned us without looking back."

"So, he made a mistake. What if he didn't co back? What if—may the Gods forbid—he died during his journeys? But that didn't happen. He is here now and that's really all that matters."

"It would have been better if he didn't co back."

"Surely, you don't an that."

"I do and now that you have confird, can you drop the subject already? It's ruining my mood and I really don't want to take it out on you."

Mauve fought the urge to not smack her forehead. Of course, this blockhead wasn't going to change overnight. He was still as stubborn and insensitive as the day she t him.

She sighed, "You really can't let bygones be bygones?"

"I'll tell Louis bye when he is gone."

Mauve fought to keep a straight face. He wasn't taking this seriously and she knew it was because his mind was made up. There was nothing she would say to change it.

Mauve swore, she had hoped she wouldn't have to rely on this and just talking to Jael would get him to forgive Louis. However, that would not be the case no matter how long she spoke with him.

"I really don't want to do this," she said, looking away from Jael.

"Do what?" He asked, he wasn't looking at her face but she could tell he was frowning.

"Don't be mad, please." She peeked at him and his expression hardened.

"What are you talking about?"

Mauve swallowed and forced herself to look Jael in the eyes. She was the one who was about to say sothing that would piss him off, the least she could do was look him in the eye as she made her request.

She took a deep breath. "Rember when you said you'd do anything to prove to that this ti's for real and you won't chase out again?"

Mauve watched Jael's expression change as he realized what she was saying. His expression almost made her regret this but she wasn't going to back down.

"Surely, you're not about to ask what I think you want to ask?" His horrified expression scared her.

"Do you rember?" She asked.

Jael closed his eyes briefly and she could see the defeated expression on his face. He opened his eyes again, his blue eyes looked heavy.

"I rember," he said.

Mauve tore her gaze from him. "I know what I want now," she whispered.

"And what would that be?" He asked normally but she could tell he was very displeased.

"I want you to forgive Louis and let him stay in the castle."

"I can forgive him, he doesn't have to stay here."

"Jael, you have to get along with him. If you don't it shows that no matter how much I an to you, a day would co when you'll easily toss aside."

Jael's eyes widened and he wrapped both arms around Mauve. "Of course not. I would never."

"You've done it before," she said. She hated guilt-tripping him but this was the only way to get him to do it.

Jael sighed, "Is this truly the only way I can prove it to you?"

"I am afraid, it is," she said as she laid on his chest. She was exhausted and all that ntal exchange was getting to her.

"Why him? You could have easily used it on yourself. I would have built you a castle, got you more dresses and whatever you could possibly dream of."

Mauve snuggled up to him. "I don't need to ask you to do that. I know you'll do that regardless. Besides, you're more than enough for . I don't need anything else."

Mauve yawned, her words were slurred and she was fighting to stay awake.

"Don't say it like that," he said, kissing the top of her head. "I wouldn't know what to say to that."

She chuckled lightly, the sleep overwhelming her. "I too like it when you're at a loss for…"

"Look at you," he whispered. "You're fast asleep."
