Mauve uttered an otherworldly scream as a strange vampire jumped into her room. She wasn't on the ground floor; she was two floors off the ground, and he had effortlessly walked in through her window.

He moved quickly, sealing her lips with his palm, "I co in peace," he said and winked at her.

"Lord Louis, you aren't helping," Danag's voice as he jumped into the window.

It wasn't until she saw Danag that she realized she was still screaming. The sound was just muffled because the vampire called Louis still had his palm over her mouth.

"Danag," she tried to say but only humd his na.

"Oh, you have stopped screaming. My bad," he said and pulled his arm away.

Mauve frowned, rembering he had said sothing about Danag as he jumped into her room, but she had been so shocked by the intrusion that his words had utterly gone over her head.

"What are you doing here, Danag?" She asked, not hiding her shocked expression.

She looked from him to the strange vampire. He was blond with an air around him that called to her.

Sohow, she thought he rembered her of Jael, except he was less scary and more approachable. He looked like he would say jokes at your expense, but he truly ant no harm.

"We ca to see you," he responded in Danag's stead. His gaze on her made her a little self-conscious.

"Who is this, Danag?" She asked.

"My na doesn't ring a bell." He seed genuinely offended.

"I am afraid not," Mauve said with a confused expression. Was she supposed to know who he was?

"That bastard never spoke about ," he yelled.

Mauve jerked at his sudden outburst and was about to comnt on it when a loud series of knocks echoed in her room.

Mauve jerked, almost falling off her bed. She wasn't the only one caught off guard by the knock. Even Danag looked disturbed. Lord Louis looked unfazed.

"Princess," the voice sounded desperate as the incessant knocking didn't stop even though they were calling to her.

The voice sounded familiar. She could tell it was a guard. She wondered if it was the one assigned to her doorpost. He must have heard her scream.

"I heard you scream," he said, voicing her thoughts. "Are you alright in there?"

He stopped knocking, and Mauve knew he would open the door if she didn't reply imdiately.

"I am fine. A spider jumped on from nowhere, but I am okay, I killed it."

"Good quick thinking," Louis whispered and winked at her.

Mauve didn't know how to respond to his unexpected praise, so all she could do in response was blush.

"Are you sure you don't need my help?"

"No," she said, responding calmly. "Thank you for your concern, but I am okay. If I need assistance, I will be sure to let you know."

"Alright, princess. Sorry to have bothered you."

"No, thank you for rushing to my assistance on such quick notice."

"Enjoy the rest of your evening, princess," the guard sounded very pleased.

"Superb," Louis said as they heard the retreating steps of the guard.

"That wasn't really anything," she replied. "What are you doing here? You haven't told that, and who are you?" She asked, looking up at Louis.

"This is Lord Louis. He is the Primus' adopted brother." He announced.

Mauve gasped. She didn't know Jael had a sibling, let alone an adopted one at that. She looked at Louis, taking in his features.

"That's an odd way to describe , Danag," Louis said with a frown.

"That is the only way I could think would help her under your relationship with the Primus."

Louis turned to Mauve, "Technically, he is right. However, I am Louis Xanthus, and I and Jael were raised like brothers."

Mauve's eyes widened, and then she imdiately looked sad. "It is so nice to et you," she responded. "I am so sorry. I had no idea who you were."

"It's not your place to apologize. I am glad I punched him as hard as I could now. I can't believe he never spoke about ."

Mauve shook her head. She wondered if she had ever heard even whispers of his na, but there was no mory. Even if she did hear, it must have been so fleeting that it didn't stick.

"He hasn't spoken about you since you left," Danag responded.

"Well, that's not surprising." He stretched out his hand to Mauve, and she took it. "It's nice to et you."

She smiled at him and was about to pull away when he pulled her to her feet. She fought the urge to scream. They certainly had similarities.

"You're not what I expected," he said, staring down at her. He was significantly taller; he looked shorter than Jael, but Mauve doubted the difference was much.

"I don't think that's a complint," she said.

Louis shrugged and let go of her hand, "Well, not really, but it's not a bad thing."

"Okay," she said and pulled her arms to herself. "May I ask what you both are doing here?"

"Strange, isn't it?" He asked with a smile.

"Very," she nodded, rubbing her palms over her arms. She wasn't cold, but she needed sothing to tell her she wasn't dreaming.

"Well, I apologize for sneaking into your room like this. That wasn't the original plan. We had no option but to do this when we were turned away at the castle entrance."

"You should have forced your way in. It's not like they could have stopped you," Danag said.

"That defeats the purpose of why we are here. We are just trying to force our way in."

"Then why are you here?" She doubted Jael sent them, and peradventure he did. She couldn't think of one reason why.

Mauve frowned as she realized a huge part of her wanted it to be for her, but she quickly suppressed the thought. What was wrong with her?

She folded her arms around her front as she waited for so sort of explanation for her to comprehend what was going on.

"We are here for you," Louis announced, staring at her face.

"What? Why? Did I do sothing wrong? Is there sothing that needs my attention? Is Jael alright?"

She forced the last question out of her lips even though she doubted they would ever co to tell her if sothing happened to Jael.

"Such pessimistic assumptions," Louis said. "Sohow, you still care about that idiot."

"What?" She blinked, even more confused.

"We are here to bring you back to the castle, Mauve," Danag said.

Mauve blinked, looking from Danag to Louis. She found their words a little hard to comprehend. "What? Why?"

She found herself repeating words she had already said, but that was because she didn't believe Danag. There was no way that was what they were here for.

"The Primus asked us to."

Mauve blinked, blinked again. She would have found it easier to believe if they had told her Jael was dead. "That's not true, he asked to leave."

Louis chuckled at her expression, "You look so shocked."

"Yeah, Jael wouldn't ask for ," she replied, looking at her feet. Why was her eyes swelling up with tears?

"Princess," a familiar voice said with a knock. Mauve jumped at the intrusion. "It's Maria. I am here with your bath water."

"Oops! That's our cue to leave. We would be back later in the night," Louis said and pulled out sothing from the inner pocket of his coat.

"What's that?" She asked suspiciously but did not attempt to take it from him.

"A letter from Jael. You can hear it directly from him yourself."

"Why didn't he co here himself?" She only asked this because she found it hard to believe he was the reason why they were here. Jael wouldn't do that. He wouldn't ask her to co back.

"Well, that's my fault. However, he has a lot to do, and I assure you he would have co here himself."

"Sounds like a lie," she said, eyeing the still outstretched letter.

"Why don't you find out yourself?" He said, pushing the letter even closer.

"Princess," Maria called again, her voice sounding urgent. "Are you okay?"

"Co on, take it."

Mauve wanted nothing more than to take the letter, but at the sa ti, she was hesitant. Nothing about this made any sense to her.

She stretched out her hand to take it, and for a second, she wondered if this was a bad idea.

"I will be back to hear your decision," he said and jumped out of the window of her room just as the door was pushed open.

"Princess," Maria called with fear in her voice. "I was calling out to you."

"Sorry, I was distracted by my thoughts," she said, watching her curtains sway despite there being almost no wind. "Help get undressed. I am ready for my bath."

"As you wish, Princess," Maria said with a bow.
