Mauve sat on the bench with a bright smile on her face. The side of her face was hurting from smiling for so long. Sabrina was easygoing and surprisingly conversations flowed between them.

"You should visit Garth estate," she suddenly called out.

"What?" Mauve yelled. "You don't an that."

"Yeah, you should. Better still, you can co with us to the eting. It's in a couple of days. I don't know when we will leave yet. I could give you a tour of the Garth mansion. It will definitely be better than this gloomy castle."

"Is Jael going too?" Mauve asked.

She did overhear him talking about the eting with Kieran but he hasn't brought it up with her, nor has he ntioned when he would have to leave. Besides, Mauve was only certain it was the sa eting because of the venue.

"The Primus? Of course, he is the reason for it. I am a bit shocked it's not going to be held in the castle. From what I hear from my father, it will determine our next approach against the Palers."

"I see, I don't think I will be able to go with you, I am sorry. I am grateful for the offer."

"Are you worried that Primus might not let you?" Sabrina asked with a frown.

"No, no, no," Mauve hurriedly said even though that was part of the reason. "I just don't think it is ti for to leave the castle again, at least not anyti soon."

Sabrina imdiately looked horrified. "I am so sorry," she apologized. "I completely forgot about the incident. "Actually, I didn't get much information about it. I understand that you were attacked. I apologize for bringing it up without considering your feelings."

"No, don't apologize. I am fine now, the wounds are completely healed, and the scars are starting to fade." Mauve grinned.

"You know," Sabrina said arching her head. "You are stronger than I thought you'd be."

"No, I am not," Mauve said and looked away. "I am just putting up a front."

"Yes, you are. You are adapting quite well."

"Why does everyone keep saying that?" Mauve smiled weakly and looked away.

She wasn't, she missed the sunlight and hated the fact that she was stuck in a crabby old castle and that she still did not have any friends. However, compared to what she had, this was relatively better.

The coldness of the other vampires was no different from where she ca from. There was no way she could tell Sabrina that she didn't have much of a choice but to adapt as best as she could to the living conditions here as this was her only ho whether she wanted it to be or not.

However, even though there were so many things to hate about it. To say she didn't like it here was a complete lie. Even though this was a marriage of convenience, a huge part of her was hoping it wouldn't co to an end too soon.

"Because most of the humans who stay with vampires try to leave as soon as they possibly can."

"I see," Mauve said but didn't add more. It was easy to forget, Sabrina was still a vampire even though she was overly friendly.

All the humans who had been unfortunate to co here didn't exactly do it of their own free will and even if they did unlike her they had soone waiting for them back ho.

Who wouldn't want to go back? She could completely understand why Vae was eager to leave. Maybe if her mother was alive, she might act differently.

"You sound tired, we should retire," Sabrina suggested.

Mauve stretched out her hands. She glanced at Sabrina with a puzzled look on her face. Even though it was easy to forget, it was hard to completely put it at the back of her mind that there was probably sothing fishy about this but, to be honest, she was too lonely to care.

"I am not that tired, I have just never done stargazing for this long. Just how long have we been here?" She asked and looked up to the sky.

"At least four hours," Sabrina said nonchalantly.

"Four?" Mauve asked in horror.

"Yeah, a significant amount of ti passed before Mill brought you so fruits and it has been at least two hours since then since we spent about an hour looking at the flowers. Why do you have anything to do?" Sabrina asked

Mauve shook her head, "Not particularly. It is just shocking how I didn't notice that so much ti had passed.

"You are right, I should leave," Mauve said and stood to her feet. "Thank you for keeping company."

"What? That's my line. I pulled you out of your routine without any prior warning."

"You can do it again," Mauve said with a chuckle.

"Really?" Sabrina asked with a raised brow. I will certainly do it again.

***************

Mauve walked into her room, feeling a little tired. Maybe it was because she was having so much fun with Sabrina but now that she was in her room, all she wanted to do was sleep.

She blinked briefly as her eyes fought to adjust to the darkness. The light she held, only lit a couple feet in front of her. She quickly made her way to her bed. She just wanted to throw herself into it and get so rest before the last al. There was still at least a full hour before then.

Mauve got to the side of the bed and the lamp nearly fell out of her hand. "Jael," she called out loud, her voice ringing with fright.

"You sure took your ti," he said with a nasty tone.

"Did you need my attention? You could have asked Mill to call for ."

"Wasn't it a simple garden tour? What took so long?" Jael asked, ignoring her question.

"Well, we sat on the bench and spoke," Mauve said with a bright expression. She couldn't help it.

"I thought I told you not to trust Sabrina so easily," Jael said, finally turning to look at her.

"It was just a conversation," Mauve replied and placed the lamp on the table. With the way he was staring at her, she was afraid she would drop it.

"What did you talk about?" He asked.

"Mostly small talks…" Mauve mumbled, she didn't know why she was being vague, it wasn't like they discussed anything wrong.

"Co here," he ordered. "Don't just stand there looking like a puppy left out in the rain."

"I don't look like that," she yelled.

Jael stretched out his hand and pulled her into his lap. She sat stiffly on his legs and he leaned against her body. Her wrist still felt cold from where he had grabbed her.

"I know, I said I will go on that tour. I do regret that it hasn't been possible." He said against her back.

Mauve's eyes widened briefly and her shoulders fell a little. "It is fine. I do understand how busy you have been. When are you leaving for the eting?" She suddenly asked.

She felt Jael freeze up against her. "Oh, you overheard the conversation with Kieran."

She nodded.

"Why?"

"Well, I would like to know when you will leave and um…." Her throat dried up for a bit. "How long will it take you to co back?"

"Don't worry about it. I will only be gone for a day."

"A night?" She asked and turned around to look at him.

"I thought it was a pretty important eting. Surely, you need more than a night."

"It is but I am not sleeping elsewhere. A night should be more than enough, I will be back before sunrise."

"I see."

"Hmm or would you prefer that I stay out longer?" He asked with a strange tone.

"No," she shook her head. "Sabrina wanted to co along with you, she ntioned sothing about you and her going together. She invited to the Garth mansion." She said shaking her head and chuckling a little.

"What?" Jael yelled, turning her around so she was forced to face him. "She did what? What did you tell her?"

"I told her no," Mauve cried out, a little frightened. "I don't think she ant any harm by that, she was just talking. It ca up in the conversation and she offered."

"Why would she offer sothing like that?" Jael said with a lost look.

"I told her, I couldn't travel. She apologizes for forgetting about my injury."

"I see," Jael said and wrapped his hands around her.

She leaned her back against him and just stayed there. He didn't say anything in response, just held her.

"You didn't do anything wrong," he said after a while. "I shouldn't have raised my voice."

Mauve nodded her head as she swallowed a huge lump. She was fighting the urge to cry. Which was ridiculous, it wasn't like he hit her or anything like that.
