Jael held Mauve's hand as they made their way downstairs for the first al. He couldn't stop looking at her. Her tiny fra carefully walked down the stairs with her head bent and her other hand gripping the side of her dress.
She glanced in his direction and imdiately looked away when she t his eyes. She looked to be in a better mood, earlier he had been a bit concerned.
He knew he would have to take certain steps, he would be lying if he said he couldn't feel her anxiety. There was also the fact that he was worried she would leave.
It wasn't sothing he was actively conscious about but more often than not he would compare his recollection of the human Kingdom to the vampire Region, they were nothing alike.
They got to the end of the stairs and Mauve tried to pull her hands from his grasp but he wouldn't let her go. She gave up the fight pretty quickly.
"Sire," the guards said, opening the door as they got close enough.
Jael barely acknowledged their words and just strolled into the hall with his hand still wrapped around Mauve's wrist. Her wrist was so small he had to close his palm as tightly as possible to get a firm grip.
He walked through the door to see The physician and Damon seated at the table. Erick and Danag were yet to arrive. Jael frowned slightly, he wasn't exactly bothered by this but he was usually the last to show up.
"Your Grace," they both said simultaneously rising to their feet.
Jael grunted in response and took his seat, finally letting go of Mauve's wrist as she sat next to him.
"Princess," Jean said, turning to her with a small bow.
"Jean," she replied with a bright smile.
Damon nodded to her before taking his seat and she smiled at him.
Jael squinted his eyes, "Where are they?" He asked.
"I don't know," Damon replied.
"What do you an you don't know? Your rooms are on the sa floor. Never mind, they will join whenever they are ready."
As soon as Jael finished speaking, the servants moved to serve the als, and the door was thrown open. Erick walked in first and Danag followed closely behind him.
Jael's expression didn't change and he kept his gaze even though he could clearly hear them co in behind him. They stopped walking when they got to him.
"Sire," Danag said with a bow. "We are sorry for coming late…" he started to say.
"I don't want to hear it," Jael said without looking at them. "Now sit down, you're holding up the first al."
"Yes Sire," they said in unison and sat down.
"Princess," Danag said as he sat down.
"Good to see you, Danag," she replied with a smile.
Erick barely glanced in her direction. Mauve didn't seem to be bothered by this as she also avoided looking at Erick.
The servants continued their serving, dishing out the als. Jael dug into his food as soon as it was laid out in front of him.
He was watching Mauve from the corner of his eyes and saw that she waited for everyone to start eating before she did.
The first al ended without incident, barely any conversation was made. Jael finished his al first and just sat down watching the rest of them eat.
The physician finished and he looked like he was about to leave but a glare from Jael had him glued to his seat and his gaze on the table.
Mauve wiped the side of her lips with the napkin and stood to her feet, "Thank you for the al." She said to no one in particular and stepped away from her seat.
She looked at Jael as if expecting him to say sothing when he didn't, she walked out of the dining hall without a backward glance.
"I am guessing this is sothing you don't want the princess to hear," Danag said, leaning back on his seat.
Jael jerked his head in Danag's direction, "What gave you that idea?" He asked with a raised brow.
"You have been staring at us like we did sothing wrong, Sire. I am starting to worry."
"Don't make it sound as if your hands are clean, Danag. However, it isn't what you think."
"But there is sothing," Erick chipped in.
"Danag you're to return the physician to the human kingdom today, right now basically. Have his paynt ready and send him off. You can take either Damon or Erick and another guard."
"I am the one who is going," Erick suddenly announced.
"Surely, you jest. I brought him here, it's only logical I take him back. Besides, how are you going to find where he stays without ?"
"That's not enough reason for you to be the one to accompany Danag. I am sure the human knows his own ho. We don't need you for directions."
"We?" Damon asked in horror. "Look at you concluding you are part of the journey already."
"I have been cooped up in the castle for almost a month, I will be part of the journey whether you like it or not…"
"I don't give a rat's ass who goes or not. I'd prefer it if you didn't have your argunt in the middle of my sentence."
"My apologies," Erick said.
Jael ignored him and turned to the physician. "You're awfully quiet, isn't this what you wanted?" Jael asked darkly.
"It is," Jean replied. He got out of his seat and bowed his head. "You're too kind, Your Grace.
"Kind?" Jael chuckled. "I am not doing this out of the goodness of my heart. "I am doing this because I have a task for you."
"A task?" Jean asked, slightly raising his head with a puzzled expression on his face.
"Yes, I will take that as your appreciation for letting you go earlier than planned."
"I-I am very grateful for this, Your Grace but I don't think I am the right person for this- this task. I am not very reliable." Jean said darting his eyes around the room as if asking the other mbers in the room for help.
"Don't go making assumptions, Physician. You don't even know what the task is but sohow you're certain you can't do it."
"I-I don't want to disappoint you."
"At least hear out," Jael said with a smirk. "I promise it's not sothing you can't handle."
Jean shrank further. He fell into the seat and slowly nodded his head.
"I will give you a week," Jael said. "That should certainly be more than enough ti."
"Enough ti?"
"Yes, enough ti for you to find out all that you can about Mauve." He said with a straight face.
"The princess?" Jean asked in horror.
"Is there anyone else with that na?" Jael asked, not hiding his annoyance.
"I apologize, Your Grace," Jean said, shaking a little. "However, I don't think I can find anything about the princess, let alone within such a short ti fra."
Jean kept his gaze glued to the spot directly in front of him. His entire fra shook as he spoke and it was a little surprising he could make coherent sentences.
"You misunderstand, Physician. I am not asking you if you can get the information I need in a week. I am telling you to get the information I need in a week. I trust that you can handle the task, it shouldn't be so difficult."
Jean looked like he was about to protest but he imdiately sealed his lips and simply nodded his head.
Jael grinned at him, "I knew I could count on you. Danag, make sure he gets ho with a scratch, and don't hesitate to give him whatever he might need."
"Yes, Sire."
"Good," Jael said and slowly stood to his feet. "I want him out of here in less than an hour before I change my mind. Also, whoever stays behind will receive Lord Garth when he arrives and make sure to inform at once."
"Yes, Sire." They replied simultaneously. Jael did not miss the glare Damon and Erick threw at each other.
Jael drew away from the table and turned away from them. He walked to the door without a backward glance and as the door closed behind him, he heard their voices.
He had expected nothing less. However, he also expects them to co to a decision soon enough. They would all want to obey his order.
The physician didn't have to leave in such a hurry but he decided it was best if he left before Lord Garth showed up, at least that was one less question to answer.
Also, it would be better for the human, and this way, he could get his information faster which was the goal of this. He was curious about what the result would be. What would he find out? He could barely wait.
