Chapter 1387: Chapter 1382: I Can Die, But You Cannot

In that instant he turned his head, Su Yingxue saw Zi Wei’s face, Zi Wei’s gaze, Zi Wei’s expression!

Was it really him who had co back?

“Kill them!”

Chen Qingshui gave the order, and her palace guards and manipulated undead assailants surged towards Su Yingxue and Zi Wei.

Zi Wei stepped back to Su Yingxue’s side to protect her, remaining silent, yet he didn’t let a single undead assailant get close to her, not even allowing a single drop of the splattering blood to land on her.

Su Yingxue could only feel shocked, “It’s clearly not Zi Wei, so why does it look so much like him…”

If he hadn’t been concentrating on fending off the enemies, Su Yingxue would have definitely grabbed him to ask, to find out if he was really Zi Wei, if his face had changed, or… or if sothing had happened, if Zi Wei’s soul had entered his body?

All of this was inconceivable to her.

But the horde of undead assailants in Long Guan City, and Chen Qingshui controlling them, didn’t give her the chance. Even with Zi Wei’s formidable combat strength, he was outnumbered by the increasingly swelling horde of undead. The bodies he cut down piled up into a mountain taller than a man, as he moved backward with Su Yingxue, panting heavily.

As he watched the undead assailants converging from all directions, his voice dipped slightly, “I’ll carve a path for you. Get to the city wall, climb over it, and go!”

Zi Wei didn’t turn to see her expression, but Su Yingxue held onto his shoulder, “You go! You don’t understand, I carry a secret dicine with ! I won’t die!”

“No!”

Zi Wei opposed breathlessly, his breathing heavy.

His life was ant to protect her, and there was absolutely no way he’d leave her behind.

Not even if she was possessed by a deity!

Dying for her, sacrificing for her—that was his mission!

Su Yingxue retreated with him, the shock in her eyes growing ever more intense.

Why was the assassin from Silver Moon Pavilion not surprised at all about her having a secret dicine, about sothing as incredible as her not being able to die, remaining so calm?

Only Zi Wei knew because she had told Zi Wei:

“If I encounter a life-and-death crisis, I can’t die, but you can. So feel free to leave behind and escape first, then co back to save .”

At the ti, Zi Wei’s indifferent and expressionless face showed no ripple, only saying, “I can die, you cannot. If not, I will surely die before you.”

If he couldn’t protect her any longer, he would die in front of her.

Leaving her behind, escaping.

That was utterly impossible.

His life could be forfeit.

But she could not be!

Su Yingxue repeated the sa words now, and she really wanted to hear how Zi Wei—no, this person—would respond.

Zi Wei, his face stained with blood, turned back to face her, “I can die, you, cannot.”

“Shhh—”

As his words ended, the blade rose, and the head of an undead assailant flew off.

Su Yingxue and he locked eyes, tears uncontrollably spilling out, her trembling lips murmuring softly, “Zi… Zi Wei…”

Is that you?

“You weren’t thousands of miles away, and you ca back, didn’t you?”

Zi Wei turned away as if to evade her, resisting a strike from Chen Qingshui for her, and kicked her in the chest, sending her flying several ters away.

Chen Qingshui crawled on the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood, then took out a short flute and played it vigorously.

The mystical creatures in the city slowly gathered together. Under the moonlight, Long Guan City looked like purgatory, grim and terrifying, with each creature’s face distorted and horrifying. Su Yingxue and Zi Wei were trapped, surrounded by an overwhelming number that was impossible to count.

Su Yingxue’s silver needles were already out, planning to knock Zi Wei unconscious and then negotiate terms with Chen Qingshui. Zi Wei had the sa idea of risking his life for her, his hand gripping her wrist tightly.

“Empress, grab the rope!”

A voice suddenly floated down from the sky, spreading particularly clearly through the air.

Su Yingxue saw Yue Lian on the hot air balloon, her long hair fluttering as she lowered two ropes, steering the balloon towards them.

Su Yingxue’s eyes lit up, “Perfect, Yue Lian!”

She ran towards the direction of the ropes thrown by Yue Lian and, after grabbing one, she gestured to Zi Wei, “Zi Wei, co quickly!”

Zi Wei sliced down three of the mystical creatures with his sword, then quickly turned, stepped onto a wall, and leaped into the air, grabbing Su Yingxue’s wrist. Both of them pulled with their strength and climbed onto the hot air balloon.

“Damn it! Catch them! Catch them!”

Chen Qingshui imdiately ordered the city gates to be opened to pursue them, but by the ti they rode out of the gates, the hot air balloon was already too far away to catch up.

Chen Qingshui gripped the scabbard tightly, biting her lip in frustration, “Damn!”

They had let them escape!

She led her people back to the capital overnight and quickly reported to Chen Ruobai.

Chen Ruobai sat on the throne, listening as Chen Qingshui described, “That Su Yingxue is really sinister. Just when we almost had them, a hot air balloon ca out of nowhere and rescued them both. We had no bows and arrows ready and could not catch them, princess… my apologies!”

Chen Qingshui gasped for breath, injured by the assassin, her internal injuries aching with every word she spoke.

Chen Ruobai was very angry, wanting to lash out, but her words ca out weak and feeble, “Chen Qingshui, you truly are… useless!”

Before she could finish, she collapsed on the throne, coughing up a mouthful of deep red blood.

Chen Qingshui knelt on the ground, unable to help but speak out, “Sister… princess, are you alright?”

Chen Ruobai coughed heavily a few tis, “I’m not dead yet, but you… you’ve been grossly negligent!”

“Yes, Your Highness, I am incompetent. Please punish as you see fit.” Chen Qingshui, relieved to see her unhard, bowed her head to accept the punishnt.

Even though they were both princesses of Ji Yun Country, the day Chen Ruobai consolidated her power, she requested she relinquish her title as princess and serve as her palace guard, at her disposal.

Now, she didn’t have the entitlent to plead as a sister.

But if Chen Ruobai punished her, she would actually feel more at peace.

However, this ti Chen Ruobai did not punish her, but instead asked her to rise and co closer, and took her pulse.

Chen Ruobai wrote her a prescription, “Get the dicine yourself, leave the transport of the bodies to your subordinates for the next few days, and recuperate in the capital.”

Chen Qingshui was puzzled, “Princess, I deserve punishnt for my failure, and Long Guan City cannot be left unguarded.”

The day Chen Ruobai decided to turn Long Guan City into a city of mystical creatures, she was sent there. Over the years, she had watched its hellish transformation and guarded it, maintaining this line of defense for Ji Yun Country, which had beco a habit for her.

But staying in the palace, in the capital… would give her nightmares.

“Obey!” Chen Ruobai’s hand rested on her shoulder, “Now that Axin has fallen in battle, if you were to die too, I would lose both my arms. Long Guan City is the last line of defense for the capital. If you don’t recuperate, you won’t be able to defend it.”
