Chapter 1138: Chapter 1134: For Zi Wei, At All Costs

Every night, Yue Lian always ensured that Zi Wei was resting before she went to sleep. Tonight, she saw that Zi Wei was not in the room. Clad in a cloak, she waited at the entrance of the inn for a full two hours, her nose turning red from the chilling blast of the late spring cold.

When Zi Wei returned and saw her, her pretty face flushed red, he remarked, “It’s very cold tonight.”

A surge of joy burst through Yue Lian’s heart, “It’s not cold, now that you’re back. Let’s go upstairs and rest.”

Zi Wei responded, “Mmm.”

He went upstairs with Yue Lian, and because he avoided contact with others, Yue Lian had reserved the entire third floor for them both. She listened intently to the sound of his footsteps, observing his expressions.

When he was about to return to his room, she gently spoke, “Hubby, did you et soone tonight?”

Zi Wei’s expression tonight was different from his usual cold deanor.

Though he was silent and unexpressive, she felt that he was more cheerful tonight than usual.

There was a hint of emotion in the corners of his eyes and eyebrows.

Zi Wei turned to her slightly and said, “Mmm, I did.”

Yue Lian was delighted inside, “Did you et the empress? Did you get to pay her a visit?”

Zi Wei replied, “No.”

Guessing that he was too shy to take the initiative, Yue Lian suggested, “The emperor and the empress treat us very well. Why don’t I accompany you tomorrow to pay a visit to the empress?”

Being able to et Su Yingxue formally, without having to sneak around at midnight, must have pleased him.

Naturally, Zi Wei’s heart leaped with joy. Just the thought of seeing Su Yingxue again could warm his heart for a long ti.

But rembering Su Yingxue’s instructions, he coldly refused, “No.”

He could not et Su Yingxue. Su Yingxue had said that he should never see her again.

He needed to be a good husband and have children with Yue Lian.

He… had not yet managed to do so.

Seeing him returning to his icy deanor, Yue Lian felt a heaviness in her heart.

She was determined to find a way for him to see Su Yingxue at least once.

Back in her room, still working on the device for the Xiao family, the old steward pitied her and lit a lamp for her, “Miss, can’t you take care of your own health? That son-in-law of yours hasn’t even bothered to ask about you!”

Yue Lian’s illness was sowhat related to Zi Wei, and as her husband, he had shown no concern for her.

Yue Lian tapped her pen on the desk seriously, “Without Zi Wei, my family and I would have perished long ago. Now, I will do whatever it takes to make him happy, even if it ans exhausting all my resources.”

She was fortunate, still clear-headed and exceptionally talented in chanics, willing to struggle once more for Zi Wei.

Although the steward was sympathetic, his words had reminded her.

She suddenly widened her eyes, “You said, my health…”

Indeed, with Rong Sheng returning in ten days, and Su Yingxue heading to Jiangnan, she was bound to et Rong Sheng.

She thought of finding a way through Rong Sheng, hopefully, to let Zi Wei et Su Yingxue.

As Su Yingxue and her entourage entered Suzhou City, they made no grand announcents. Yet, Xiao Qingyu had been waiting at the city gate since early on.

He dismounted and knelt to greet Chu Yihan, “Your servant welcos your highness. Your noble presence graces our Xiao family, though we failed in greeting you from afar.”

Chu Yihan’s voice, full of authority, ca through, “Young Master Xiao, your news is quite astute.”

Implicit sharpness laced his words.

Xiao Qingyu, understanding the implied aning, bowed his head to the ground, “As instructed by my elder brother, the Xiao family is bathed in grace and must be cautious and respectful. Therefore, your servant dared not be negligent and has prepared a residence to welco your highness.”
