Chapter 687: Chapter 687: Each to Their Own Path

“Why are you doing this?” Han An’s gaze was fixed intently on Zhong Niangyao, “The Imperial Decree you seek isn’t helping at all, it’s harming .”

She had once been the disciple of Zhong Niangyao and, although she couldn’t claim to fully understand her teacher’s character, she still had so clarity. Thus, she didn’t believe that Zhong Niangyao’s intention in seeking the Imperial Decree was to help her.

“Harming you?” Zhong Niangyao looked at Han An, a smirk playing on her lips, “In that case, I’ll go to the Emperor tomorrow and ask him to revoke his command. That would be my last request before leaving, and I think he will surely agree.”

“No.”

After hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, Han An instinctively objected.

But then, when she t Zhong Niangyao’s mocking smile, she felt a twinge of embarrassnt and agitation in her heart.

“Didn’t you say that this was harming you?” Zhong Niangyao’s smile was endlessly ironic, “So why are you objecting now? Are you afraid that without this Imperial Decree, your position as Princess Consort Yu will beco unstable?”

“What exactly do you want?” Han An’s heart was troubled, her tone sharpening as she looked at Zhong Niangyao, “Is it that you want to see suffer, to take revenge because I told Prince Yu about that matter, is that it?”

“Yes, it was I who told Prince Yu about that matter. But, in the end, it was mbers of the Royal Family who forced you to your death! If you really want to take revenge, then go find them! Why fixate on like this?”

Now, she found herself in a dilemma because of that Imperial Decree. She had turned against Nolan Chenyu, and it had shown her how ludicrous the love she had persisted in for so many years was.

However, if the Imperial Decree were to be removed, then, as Zhong Niangyao had said, her position as Princess Consort Yu would indeed be in grave danger.

In contrast to Han An’s agitation, Zhong Niangyao appeared much more composed. She lifted her eyes gently, glanced at Han An, and spoke, “I have not thought of revenge, nor have I thought of taking revenge on the Royal Family. I have said many tis, I did what I did that year willingly.”

“Then why are you doing this?” Han An could no longer control her emotions and shouted angrily at Zhong Niangyao, “You’re pushing into a dead end! Why are you being so cruel?”

“Actually, there’s no particular reason.”

Even in the face of Han An’s hysteria, Zhong Niangyao remained unaffected, supporting her chin with one hand as she leaned on a nearby table, her voice indifferent, “I just wanted to see what your love, which you once pursued recklessly like a moth to a fla, would turn into.”

At these words, Han An was stunned, disbelief etched across her face as she looked at Zhong Niangyao, “You… you did this on purpose? You intended to provoke discord between and Prince Yu, how can you be so heartless?”

“You are mistaken,” Zhong Niangyao said, looking at Han An, her lips curling into a cold arc, “When I ca back, I did not plan to trouble you. After all, our bond as teacher and student was long broken. We go our separate ways, never to et again.”

“But, I don’t know who gave you the courage to show up before after betraying , boldly requesting that I help your husband ascend to the throne. Do you think I’m a fool, or are you treating like one and playing ?”

“I didn’t,” Han An instinctively started to defend herself, her voice faint and lacking conviction, “I never had such thoughts.”

“Whether you had such thoughts doesn’t matter now,” Zhong Niangyao shook her head, “I originally didn’t want to bother with you and Nolan Chenyu over the things you’ve done. But you had to keep jumping around in front of , testing my limits.”

“You must be too idle, hence you have ti to bother again and again. Therefore, I think, it’s a good thing that you two are locked in this situation.”

Facing such undeniable facts, Han An opened her mouth to speak but found herself speechless.

“Go back!” Zhong Niangyao looked at Han An, her voice cold, “I am leaving tomorrow, and as a parting gesture, considering our past as teacher and student, let give you a piece of advice.”

“The Imperial Decree states that you and Nolan Chenyu must remain together until white-haired, aning you’ll always be his official wife. However, do not forget, the decree only specifies that Nolan Chenyu cannot depose you as the Princess Consort. But—”

At this point, Zhong Niangyao paused, giving Han An a aningful glance, “Widowhood is another matter. Only if you beco the late Princess Consort can Nolan Chenyu establish a new consort.”

Upon hearing this, Han An froze completely, her head snapping up, her pupils contracting as she stamred, “You an—” Nolan Chenyu wants to kill .

She didn’t finish her sentence, her heart already aching unbearably. She didn’t want to believe this reality, even though, to Nolan Chenyu now, she was of no more use. Regardless, they had been husband and wife for over a decade; how could Nolan Chenyu wish to kill her!

She tried to persuade herself, yet failed. She wanted to deny the truth, to claim that Zhong Niangyao was lying.

But deep down, she knew very well that Zhong Niangyao was speaking the truth.

Zhong Niangyao must have seen sothing, which is why she had made such a statent.

“I haven’t said anything,” Zhong Niangyao spread her hands in a gesture of detachnt, “I simply thought to warn you out of goodwill. As for the rest, it’s up to you!”

“You—”

Han An stood there, her hands by her side now clenched into fists, struggling to suppress her inner turmoil, “Why would you say that.”

“There’s no reason.” Zhong Niangyao responded languidly, “Besides, by revealing this, shouldn’t you be grateful to ?”

Han An stood rooted to the spot, her bottom lip nearly bitten through.

“Alright, it’s getting late.” Zhong Niangyao stood up, stretching lazily, “I don’t have all the ti in the world to waste on you. If you have nothing else, then leave quickly! Or else—”

Zhong Niangyao gave Han An an intriguing smile, “If you annoy later, and if I do sothing in displeasure, then it’s truly unpredictable. Even if you have the Imperial Decree, I know ways to render it ineffective. So, from now on, you better not appear before again.”
