Chapter 664: Chapter 664: In a Fog of Confusion

Looking at the aningful smile on Zhong Niangyao’s face, Nolan Deye couldn’t help but shiver.

He always felt that the State Preceptor seed to imply sothing, but he couldn’t guess what it was. However, soone was certainly about to be unlucky—he just didn’t know who that person would be.

In the blink of an eye, he saw that Zhong Niangyao’s expression had returned to normal.

After nodding at Nolan Deye, Zhong Niangyao continued, “Emperor, I will take my father back to the National Master Hall.”

“Of course,” Nolan Deye quickly said, “As for Nangong Xin—”

Thinking of the Empress Dowager’s attitude, he dared not make any promises, even feeling a bit annoyed, “I also don’t know what is going on with the Empress Dowager. Why is she suddenly so protective of Nangong Xin? When Nangong Xin was in the palace before, I never saw my mother hold her in such high regard.”

“Emperor, perhaps—” Zhong Niangyao’s mouth curled into a mysterious smile, “from the beginning to the end, the Empress Dowager has always been fond of Nangong Xin, it’s just that outsiders have failed to notice.”

After all, Nangong Xin was but an orphan girl. Though she was raised in the palace, she had no backers behind her. For such an orphan to grow up safely and smoothly in the palace, it’s possible that soone was protecting her.

Nolan Deye felt sowhat baffled after hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words.

But seeing that Zhong Niangyao did not seem inclined to offer an explanation, he felt embarrassed to ask further.

Soon, Zhong Niangyao and Lu Yichen had taken Zhong Mingxin back to the National Master Hall.

Upon entering the National Master Hall, Zhong Mingxin couldn’t wait to find out exactly what was happening. He didn’t doubt that Zhong Niangyao was his daughter, he just truly didn’t understand how Zhong Niangyao could have grown so much. What exactly had happened in the anti?

Zhong Niangyao had no intention of hiding anything and simply laid out the whole story.

When he heard that he had been here for ten years, but over twenty years had passed in the modern world, Zhong Mingxin felt his entire being was not well.

“Then, Le Yao—” Zhong Mingxin hesitantly began.

“My mother is gradually recovering now,” Zhong Niangyao said. “She is very worried about you; she wanted to co with to find you. However, her health hasn’t completely recovered, so I convinced her to stay.”

After receiving Zhong Niangyao’s reply, Zhong Mingxin breathed a sigh of relief and then anxiously asked, “Nianyao, can we go back?”

What he was most concerned about now was this very question. If he truly had to be trapped here for life, then he wouldn’t be able to reunite with his love.

“Of course,” Zhong Niangyao nodded affirmatively. “I ca here to take you back. However, we might need to wait a little longer. There are still so matters that need handling.”

Like Nangong Xin, she had no intention of letting her off easily.

Zhong Mingxin nodded and then, as if thinking of sothing, turned his gaze questioningly towards Lu Yichen, “Nianyao, this is—”

“Oh, this is Lu Yichen.” Zhong Niangyao reached out and took Lu Yichen’s arm, introducing him cheerfully, “He’s my fiancé. We’ve already held an engagent ceremony.”

Lu Yichen played along, nodding at Zhong Mingxin, “Uncle, hello, I am Yaoyao’s fiancé. Don’t worry, I will take good care of Yaoyao and be good to her for a lifeti.”

“What?” Zhong Mingxin nearly jumped up, “Engaged? How could you just get engaged?”

“I’m not a child anymore; getting engaged is very normal, isn’t it?” Zhong Niangyao, nursing an injured shoulder, said with a smile, “Besides, it’s been approved by Grandfather and Grandmother.”

Hearing that Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong had already agreed, Zhong Mingxin could not say much, even though he still felt a bit uncomfortable.

Still, when he looked at Lu Yichen, his eyes were filled with dissatisfaction. His daughter, like a blooming flower, he had not had the chance to spend much ti with, had now beco another man’s fiancée—it was hard for him to accept.

However, thinking that he had left when his daughter was still a child and had never returned, missing so many years of her life, he felt that he really had no place to say anything.

Zhong Niangyao naturally saw the guilt in Zhong Mingxin’s eyes and she spoke with reassurance, “Dad, you really don’t need to feel guilty. I know you haven’t been able to be by my side these years because you were compelled. Besides, Grandfather and Grandmother have been very good to . Even without you around, I’ve never been aggrieved.”

Hearing Zhong Niangyao comfort him, a torrent of emotions flooded over Zhong Mingxin.

“Dad, go rest well!” Zhong Niangyao said. “It’s getting late, and you must be tired. Go rest up! When you wake up tomorrow, I’ll give you a thorough check-up. The poison that Nangong Xin used on you needs to be resolved as soon as possible.”

Zhong Mingxin opened his mouth but ultimately didn’t say anything and just nodded.

Actually, he had a lot of questions he wanted to ask his daughter, like why she appeared here and how she beca the State Preceptor of Lai Country.

In the end, he did not voice any of his questions. After being absent from his daughter’s life all these years, he really had no place to ask too much.

Zhong Niangyao could see Zhong Mingxin’s hesitation, but she didn’t say anything. So things are troubleso to explain. If Zhong Mingxin asked, she would answer. But if he didn’t ask, then she felt there was no need to say anything.

Soon, under Zhong Niangyao’s guidance, Zhong Mingxin returned to his room to rest.

Then, only Lu Yichen and Zhong Niangyao were left in the hall.

“What do you plan to do next?” Lu Yichen asked with a raised eyebrow, “I’m talking about Nangong Xin.”

“Nangong Xin made such a move and it’s absolutely impossible to just let it go!” Zhong Niangyao’s lips curled into a aningful smile, “Tomorrow, I plan to see the Empress Dowager. I believe, with my earnest persuasion, she will surely understand reason.”

“Oh, really?” Lu Yichen looked at Zhong Niangyao, teasingly said, “Are you sure it’s persuasion?”

“Alright!” Zhong Niangyao nodded, smiling, “The Empress Dowager may be insistent on protecting Nangong Xin for now, but when her interests clash with Nangong Xin’s, will she continue to stand by her?”
