Chapter 449: Chapter 449 Hiring a Hitman Chapter 449: Chapter 449 Hiring a Hitman After such an incident, Zhong Niangyao was not in a good mood and went straight ho. However, she did not tell Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong about the accident at the school gate. She didn’t want the elderly couple to worry about her.

The next day, the police ca knocking. Again, it was Han Xin, but the cop with him was soone she hadn’t seen before, looking rather young, probably just a rookie.

When Zhong Niangyao entered the living room, this was the scene she saw.

“Captain Han, why is it always you?”

Zhong Niangyao was sowhat surprised to see Han Xin, “Your visit here, it couldn’t be another homicide, could it? But even so, a homicide shouldn’t have anything to do with ! I haven’t encountered any homicides recently!”

“No!” Han Xin shook his head, “Lady Zhong, this ti we are here mainly to investigate a traffic accident.”

As soon as Zhong Niangyao heard the words “traffic accident,” a glint flickered across her eyes, and she stopped Han Xin from continuing, “Captain Han, let’s talk over in the garden!”

Although Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong were not around, there were still so servants present. She didn’t plan to let Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong know about yesterday’s incident by discussing it here, afraid it might reach the elderly couple’s ears.

Soon, Zhong Niangyao and Han Xin had already taken their seats in the garden outside.

After serving tea, the servant smartly left them alone.

Once the servant left, Zhong Niangyao looked at Han Xin and the other rookie cop sitting across from her, a smile tugged at her lips as she teased, “Captain Han, aren’t you from the criminal investigation division? How co you’re handling a matter usually dealt with by the traffic police?”

“Lady Zhong, this is not a regular traffic accident,” Han Xin looked at Zhong Niangyao, his tone carried an unconscious respect, “I believe you’ve noticed it too, that driver was preditated. And we suspect—”

He didn’t finish his sentence.

Zhong Niangyao directly filled in for him, “His target was .”

Han Xin nodded, “We’ve checked the surveillance footage. His car was stopped there all the while, and it was only a minute before you ca out that he started driving. Moreover, when he was about to hit you, there were no signs of braking. Instead, he accelerated.”

“Oh.”

Hearing that soone might want to kill her, the expression on Zhong Niangyao’s face showed no change; she just nodded and spoke indifferently, “Did that driver confess?”

“Not yet,” Han Xin shook his head, “The driver had a blood alcohol level of 320mg/100mL, significantly over the drunken driving limit of 80mg/100mL. Upon waking up, he has consistently claid that he was drunk and not clear-headed, hence almost hitting soone.”

Zhong Niangyao wasn’t surprised by this, “Alright, I’m aware of everything you’ve ntioned.”

Seeing how calm Zhong Niangyao was, the rookie cop Lu Fei couldn’t help but speak up, “Lady Zhong, aren’t you the least bit surprised? Also, soone is after your life! How can you remain so calm?”

It was as if they were discussing soone else’s situation.

Zhong Niangyao glanced at Lu Fei, then turned her head towards Han Xin and raised an eyebrow, asking, “New here?”

Such a fervent deanor was clearly that of a youngster inexperienced in the ways of the world.

“Yes,” Han Xin nodded then turned to Lu Fei and spoke directly, “Keep quiet, you’re a police officer, you should know what should and shouldn’t be said.”

After hearing Han Xin’s reprimand, Lu Fei appeared sowhat wronged but didn’t say anything more. However, when he looked at Zhong Niangyao, his eyes still carried worry.

Han Xin looked at Zhong Niangyao again and then asked, “Lady Zhong, did that driver really intend to take your life, or did sothing strange happen to him?”

From the surveillance footage, he felt the driver had deliberately targeted Zhong Niangyao’s life. But having experienced several supernatural incidents with Zhong Niangyao before, he couldn’t rule out the possibility that the driver could have been controlled by sothing.

“There was nothing strange about that driver,” Zhong Niangyao spoke mildly, “Everything he did was driven by his own will.”

“That driver is indeed a murderer,” Lu Fei couldn’t help but say passionately, “Captain, I think we should criminally prosecute him for attempted murder.”

“Quiet, you’re still a police officer! Are these the words you should be saying?” Han Xin glared at Lu Fei, “Who talks about murder? Where’s the evidence?”

The surveillance video couldn’t serve as direct evidence. Given that the driver’s alcohol level was severely over the limit, if he insisted that he was driving under the influence, that would be the end of it, and they couldn’t prosecute him for intentional homicide. The prosecutor’s office wouldn’t agree either.

Most crucially, there was no connection between the driver and Zhong Niangyao. At least, they hadn’t discovered any yet.

“All those charges are useless,” Zhong Niangyao shook her head, “Even if that driver had really killed today, even if you found the evidence needed to legally prosecute him, there’s nothing you could do.”

After hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, Han Xin’s brows furrowed deeply, “Lady Zhong, what do you an?”

“You guys probably haven’t found out yet,” Zhong Niangyao said calmly, “that driver is already terminally ill and won’t live much longer. If I’m not mistaken, he has about two to three months left.”

She had already seen from the driver’s facial features at the scene of the accident that he was on his last legs. Hence, she was even less likely to believe this was a re accident.

Once she said this, Han Xin and Lu Fei instantly widened their eyes, utterly shocked. Clearly, they had not uncovered this detail.

Lu Fei, for one, was dubious. He didn’t know where Zhong Niangyao had gotten her information, but her assertive deanor seed genuinely sincere.

But as for Han Xin, upon hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, he imdiately beca more formal, “Lady Zhong, have you had any conflicts with anyone recently?”

After hearing about the driver’s situation, his first thought was of a murder-for-hire scenario.

If it truly was a case of murder-for-hire, the other party must have had significant conflicts with Zhong Niangyao. Otherwise, an average person really wouldn’t commit such a lethal act.
