Such harsh words turned Zhong ngxuan’s face from pale to flush with no idea how to retort.
“And you, stop dreaming about becoming Lu Chenran’s father-in-law,” Old Sir Zhong looked towards Zhong Mingyu, not mincing his words, “Your daughter doesn’t have the ability to marry into the Lu Family.”
With one sentence, both Zhong Mingyu and Zhong ngxuan’s expressions darkened.
Zhong Minghao and Zheng Silin, though, didn’t show much on their faces, but the schadenfreude was clear in their eyes.
They had thought Zhong ngxuan, having latched onto the Lu Family, would be quite pleased with herself. She never felt inferior and didn’t see how she was any less than Long Jiarui. Moreover, if Lu Chenran truly liked Long Jiarui, why would he be with her?
Since Lu Chenran liked her, then she had a chance to marry him, didn’t she?
“Zhong ngxuan, what you choose to do is indeed none of my business,” Old Sir Zhong’s tone was so cold it was nearly frosty, “However, if you continue to be stubborn and insist on being with Lu Chenran, then you can just leave the Zhong Family!”

“Father!”
Zhong ngxuan and Zhong Mingyu both cried out in shock, completely unprepared for such ruthlessness from the head of the family.
“As long as you leave the Zhong Family, then your affairs will have nothing to do with us,” continued Old Sir Zhong impassively, “But rest assured, even if you end up marrying Lu Chenran in the future, our Zhong Family won’t co begging.”
Zhong ngxuan couldn’t believe her ears, “Grandfather, how can you treat like this? I’m your own granddaughter.”
“The mont you disregarded the survival of our Zhong Family, you lost the right to question like this,” Old Sir Zhong’s sharp gaze fell upon Zhong ngxuan, “You may chase after higher status if you wish, but don’t use our Zhong Family as a bargaining chip; we can’t afford to gamble with our family’s survival.”
Hearing such ruthless words, Zhong ngxuan still wanted to say sothing. But before she could speak, she was tugged at the sleeve by Zhong Mingyu.
Seeing her father shake his head at her, Zhong ngxuan fell silent.
Zhong Mingyu faced Old Sir Zhong and assured, “Father, you can rest easy. ngxuan has realized her mistake, and she promises not to get involved with Lu Chenran anymore.”
Satisfied with Zhong Mingyu’s promise, Old Sir Zhong nodded. Then he looked around at everyone before adding, “The words I said today are not just for Zhong ngxuan, but for all of you as well.”
“It’s fine to aspire to rise above your station, but no matter what you do, don’t put our Zhong Family in jeopardy. Otherwise, no matter who it is, I will not tolerate it.”
Everyone promptly affird. Only Zhong ngxuan remained silent, her eyes filled with resentnt.
After leaving the study, everyone retreated to their own rooms. But given the events of the evening, it was unlikely anyone could really sleep.
The only one seemingly unaffected was Zhong Niangyao.
Even though the day’s events had not touched her, Lu Yichen’s actions today had left her heart in turmoil. She felt she needed to take so ti to clear her head.
However, soone clearly didn’t want to let her be at peace. Before she could even enter her room, she was called from behind by Zhong ngxuan, “Zhong Niangyao, stop right there.”
Zhong Niangyao really didn’t want to deal with Zhong ngxuan, so she ignored her, reached out, opened her door, and walked straight in.
Seeing Zhong Niangyao completely ignore her, Zhong ngxuan beca frantic. She squeezed into the room just before Zhong Niangyao could close the door.
Looking at the suddenly intrusive Zhong ngxuan, Zhong Niangyao’s eyes darkened, and she spoke with displeasure, “This is my room, and I need to rest now. Please leave.”
“Zhong Niangyao, it was you, wasn’t it?”
Zhong ngxuan stared at Zhong Niangyao with hate-filled eyes, her words spat between clenched teeth, “You’re the one who told Grandfather and the others about and Lu Chenran, right?”
She had not planned to keep her relationship with Lu Chenran secret for long, but neither had she intended for it to co out this soon. True, she was already physically involved with Lu Chenran, but their relationship wasn’t stable yet, so she had intended to wait until she persuaded Lu Chenran to marry her before going public.
Of course, she did not know about Lu Chenran’s fiancée. If she had, she might have shifted her target.
But now since she was already with Lu Chenran, she had no way to change course; she had to see it through. However, with Grandfather knowing and issuing such an ultimatum, her resentnt turned towards whoever had snitched.
