Chapter 319: You’ll Be Dead

"That... could’ve gone better..."

Nathan sighed as he put down his phone. His attempts at sidelining Raine for her own safety had backfired miserably, putting him on her bad side for the ti being while also being away from her at the sa ti.

It was one of the few tis where he actually wanted to just drop everything and leave so that he could apologize, but he obviously couldn’t. Doing so while they were this close to nailing Danos dead to rights would be patently stupid, not to ntion that Raine would also just get even more mad at him for dropping important matters just to be selfish.

"The things I do for this woman..."

Letting out a sigh, Nathan pocketed his phone in favor of focusing his efforts back on the actual task he had to do. While he had everything that he needed to be a first-hand witness, his testimony would be useless unless he revealed the existence of the Voyager’s Watch, and that was sothing he really didn’t want to do. On top of it being so fantastical that it would be laughable, its power would undoubtedly make him a target for potential idiots wanting the watch for themselves.

"I take it things didn’t go well with the lady wife?"

Nathan shook his head at Davin’s cheeky quip. Truly, him having a wife only seed to have intensified his nephew’s teasing. Well, he was normally like this already, but his words stung even harder knowing that it was true.

"Enough about that," Nathan sighed. "What’s the progress on digging up Danos’s dirt?"

"Well enough," Davin reported, his tone taking on a more serious sound. "While he’s done well in trying to hide everything under the rug, your anecdotes had proven more than helpful to point us in the right direction."

Nathan nodded in satisfaction. He had wracked his brain hard just to rember everything he saw in Danos’s head, and while he didn’t rember all of it, he rembered well enough that he could give his n a decent headstart in getting the ball rolling.

"Where’s Aspen?" Nathan asked, noting the absence of his future successor. "Shouldn’t he be here by now?"

"He should be," Davin shrugged. "I’m pretty sure he has only gone to one of Danos’s

info caches that you pointed out near the Convel Society compound."

"If so, then he should’ve been here by now," Nathan humd worriedly. "What could possibly hold his attention long enough to-"

*THUD!*

The door opened with a forceful thud, Aspen bursting his way into the room panting and gasping for breath.

"Aspen?" Nathan worriedly asked, the man’s distraught state almost making him jump up in high alert. "What’s wrong? Did sothing happen?"

Aspen opened his mouth to speak, but his current breathless state made him hold up a hand in a waiting gesture. Leaning on the nearest wall, he buried his hand into his pocket, pulling out what looked to be a flash drive as he smiled.

"I got it," he declared in victory. "I managed to find sothing pretty damning."

As if a switched had been flipped, the entire room lit up in anticipation. Davin whistled in appreciation, while Nathan already had his laptop up and ready as he plugged in the flash drive on the nearest open USB drive.

"Let’s see what you got then," Davin curiously comnted, standing up to look over Nathan’s shoulder. "If this is what we think it is, then we’ll have Boris free before tomorrow ends."

"Let’s not be too hasty," Nathan tempered expectations. "We know he did sothing that would give him the death sentence, but we don’t know if this is the one that-"

"It is," Aspen interrupted, finally having composed himself as he leaned over the desk. "I just hope nothing got corrupted along the way."

"We’ll see then."

With bated breath, Nathan watched his laptop load. A few seconds later, the flash drive finally appeared. Quickly, he browsed through file after file, each and every docunt or letter found only adding onto their strengthening case as a massive smirk ford on his face.

"Ooh boy, that’s pretty damning," Davin whistled. "I’m impressed he’s done this well in conveniently making it easier for us to sort through."

"Danos is a ticulous man," Nathan scoffed. "I can see him listing out every single atrocity he did if only to make sure he has a solid record to show if he needs it."

"So it’s good, right?" Aspen asked in relief. "We’re done investigating?"

"It’s safe to say that we have him dead to rights," the king chuckled nacingly. "Either one of these files is more than enough to have him jailed for the rest of his life. All of these combined, however..."

"The guy has enough evidence stacked against him now that he can get a death sentence and it wouldn’t be enough," Davin chuckled. "Even if Danos had nine lives, it still wouldn’t be enough for him to cover for his actions."

Nathan couldn’t help but smile as he closed the laptop. Looking at his n, the look they all shared was more than telling of what was to co.

"Shall I contact Boris’s team then?"

"Go ahead," Nathan nodded at Davin’s offer. "We should compile everything we’ve gotten into one solid case with the lawyers."

"I’ll get to working on that then," Aspen offered.

Nathan nodded in appreciation. "Thank you, Aspen."

With both of his trusted n leaving the room, Nathan sank into his seat, staring at the ceiling as he let out a sigh.

"It’ll soon be over..." he thought aloud. "All this trouble will finally be put behind us..."

Finally, after everything they’ve done to make this happen, they will finally put that bastard Elder to justice. It hadn’t been done as quickly as he had hoped, but at least there was no feasible way for Danos now to worm his way out of this one. They had him cornered, and as soon as they presented their portfolio of evidence, his sentence will surely be applied before he could even get out of the courtroom.

"We’re coming, Danos," he darkly chuckled. "Just you wait... You’ll be dead before the end of the week..."
