Chapter 277: Other Than Myself
Lyne frowned as she waited for Boris’s explanation on why Nathan simply couldn’t simply abdicate the throne. It was a straightforward solution, after all. Why not just leave?
"If that happens, Danos will just seize the opportunity to get the throne," Boris elaborated.
"Aspen’s... He doesn’t seem to be ready yet... And Decan was heavily wounded by Nathan in the last Battle for the Throne, so he won’t be able to fight Danos like before." He deliberated for a few seconds. "It’ll be a risk..."
"How about you then?" Lyne inquired.
"Hmm? I’m not qualified since I’m technically still considered an outcast..." Boris scratched his head as he muttered. "Realistically, the only option we have is Aspen, but the man’s not confident enough in a fight yet, which will obviously happen once Danos challenges him."
Boris casually lanted as he poked at his food, "So in the end, King Nathan, even though he wanted to abdicate, still couldn’t go through with it and put everything we’ve already worked hard on to waste. He can’t leave the Convel Society until he’s secured the stability of the group. And for that to happen, he has to pull the thorns out then leave a qualified ruler who has great intentions for the group as a whole."
Lyne nodded in understanding. "I see..."
Another period of silence settled between them, the sound of their platters filling the air as they ate. Eventually...
"Later... Will you be available to go out for a date?" Boris suddenly asked, making Lyne almost choke on the food she just swallowed.
"You okay?" Boris asked, quickly going to her side and stroking her back as he handed her a glass of water. "Here."
Snagging the glass from his hand, Lyne gulped down the drink, clearing her throat as she composed herself.
"Are you alright?" Boris asked once more.
"W-what..."
Turning her head to look at him, Lyne gulped once more as she beca acutely aware of the lingering space between them. Boris’s face was too close... way too close for her to ignore...
"Lyne..."
Boris whispered out, his husky tone carrying her na. Their eyes t, and he inwardly cursed at their close distance. If only Lyne knew what thoughts were currently running inside his head... Would she run away from him? What would she think of him? A pervert indeed...
Unconsciously, his eyes went down to her lips. They were closed, of course. Lyne wasn’t even cooperating by innocently parting her lips just like that.
At his own desires, Boris unknowingly groaned as he whispered, "I want to kiss you so badly right now, but I’m restraining myself hard not to do so..."
Lyne was taken aback. She was speechless... not to ntion how her body just stood frozen right at that mont.
’A kiss?’ she inwardly thought.
Her mind quickly went into overdrive. Looking back, Boris did improve a lot... Asking her permission like this was adorable.
Unknowingly, Lyne’s lips curled up as she teased, "It’s so unlike you to ask permission like this... I like it though. I guess, there won’t be any harm if it’s just one kiss?"
Boris blinked and whispered, "Is that a YES?"
Lyne hesitantly nodded, and in that instant, she felt Boris’s lips against hers. It was surprisingly... decent. She was even about to close her eyes when she heard the door click.
Out of reflex, Lyne quickly pushed Boris away from her, wiping her lips clean with her hand as she hastily composed herself.
"O-Oh!" she gasped as soon as she regained her composure. With an apologetic look, she asked, "Are you alright?"
It was then that the door finally swung open, Raine slowly walking in with surprise on her face.
"O-Oh... Did I co at the wrong ti?" Raine asked with a frown. "Sorry... I’m just not used to knocking whenever I go inside to Lyne’s or Mia’s room."
Seeing her boss, Lyne quickly gave her a nod and a smile as she greeted, "Good morning, Boss. It’s fine. We’re just having breakfast." She then offered, "Would you like to eat with us?"
Behind her, Boris cleared his throat, "Let
just get another serving for you. We can have breakfast together. Please take a seat, I won’t take long."
Hearing him, Raine flashed a teasing smile as she looked at Boris. As soon as he hastily left, her gaze lingered on Lyne, who just awkwardly sat properly on her chair.
"I guess I unintentionally ruined the mood between you and Boris," Raine teased as she sat opposite Lyne. "So progress was made, I take it?"
Lyne’s face turned crimson at her words, making Raine chuckle as she continued, "Ah, I’m really sorry. It’s a habit I should really avoid these days. I’ll make sure not to barge in next ti."
She then teased her subordinate, "I’ll knock on the door first. Or maybe... you shouldn’t forget to lock the door next ti?"
"Boss..." Lyne complained with a pout, making Raine laugh even harder.
"Fine then. I won’t tease you so more, but you should know that I am happy for you," Raine winked. "I’ll also be glad if you enjoyed yourself more while we’re still here. You can go out with Boris more often and have fun. You don’t have to stay with
all the ti, Lyne. We both know well enough that I can handle everything on my part."
"Perhaps..." Lyne faintly smiled.
Soon enough, Boris ca back and prepared more extra utensils on the table for Raine, plus the extra serving for their al.
"Thank you, Boris."
With a small gesture of thanks, Raine drank her coffee and ate her food. Frankly, she was starving, not to ntion how sore her body felt all over because of Nathan’s... overeagerness last night. The silence stretched on for a good while, the three of them simply enjoying their als.
"I do believe Nathan’s in a eting right now," Raine murmured, breaking the terse silence as they ate. "The topic’s all about , most likely."
"Yeah. It might take a long ti too since they definitely won’t let our King go without them getting what they wanted," Boris added.
"Hmm... My King will need help then," Raine snorted after sipping on her coffee. "I’ll just finish this and give those whiners a good show."
"What are you planning on doing, Boss?" Lyne asked. Although, she could already tell what the answer was just by how her Boss was smirking. That smile definitely spelled trouble, and Lyne could only hope that her Boss wouldn’t put herself in any more danger.
Then again, she probably didn’t care about being Queen since the only thing that mattered to her was being with Nathan. Knowing her, her Boss just probably wanted to ss around with Sasha, and she wouldn’t stop till she made that woman bleed slowly, leaving her panting and begging for her to stop.
Raising an eyebrow, Raine had a vicious smile on her lips as she replied, "What else? I wanna bully them with all my might. I believe I just need to prove myself worthy to be their Queen right?"
She shrugged, "Then they’ll get what they want. I’ll show them that there’s no one more qualified in this world to be Nathan’s Queen other than myself."
