Chapter 243: His voice sounds so familiar

The following day, Raine had lunch with her father. It was far from what she wanted to do at the mont, but it wasn’t as if she had anything better to do.

"Now that I’m back, you can choose to stay here in the safety of the mansion instead of gallivanting all over the place," her father suggested. Though it sounded more like a command. "Also, there’s no need for you to hole yourself up in your private residence, especially now that Yun’s gone." It was a foregone conclusion. He knew that she and his brother just couldn’t get along well. And of course, it resulted in her acquiring own private place to stay at.

"I’ll move back in about three days at most. I still have a lot to wrap up with my squad, Father," Raine casually replied, not bothering to raise her head. "You do know that I lost so of my old mbers, seeing as I’m already training up new recruits to replace them." She then turned to him and asked, "What are your plans now for the Convel Society?"

Hearing the question, Marcus’s spoon paused in his plate as he t her gaze. "What else? I’ll proceed with what I’ve always planned on doing, Raine. And you better not be holding any more feelings for that monster. You two don’t belong with one another," Marcus casually threatened.

"I’m already working on how we can remove his mark on you, so hang in there and don’t do anything stupid. Also, I already promised Janus your hand in marriage, so all you need to do now is focus on spending more ti with him and working out your relationship before the wedding!"

"...I understand, Father," Raine answered, maintaining her usual casual expression in front of her father.

There was a mont of silence as they continued eating. After a few beats of awkward quietness, Raine finally gathered the courage to break it by asking, "I would like to resu my operations, Father."

"Absolutely not. You will stay within our territory, and you won’t be allowed to go out unless I say so," Marcus firmly denied. "I’m doing this for your own good. The Mate Pull is strong, and I won’t risk you roaming around knowing that that monster is just out there looking for my daughter. No... I don’t want you to have the sa fate as your mother," he stated with a dark expression.

Curiously, Raine looked at him and asked, "What exactly happened to her? You never elaborated on the subject... Didn’t you say she died giving birth to ?" She was never interested in her past before, but after all the things she had just experienced... There were just too many loose ends still hanging around her. How could she not ask a lot of questions?

There was a long pause, and Raine’s gaze didn’t stray from her father’s. With a silent resolve, she let him know that she wasn’t leaving with her question still unanswered.

"Your mother was killed by a werewolf... The werewolf who took her away from ," his father answered, his voice coming out almost as a gasp that Raine could barely hear his words properly.

"I... I don’t get it..." she weakly whispered.

"That’s why I’m so hellbent on eliminating those monsters and wiping them off the face of the earth," Marcus ground his teeth. "They’re too barbaric to coexist with humans! And that damnable Mate Pull their kind is known for... Even having it with humans is too disgusting!!!"

"I don’t understand..." Raine confusedly uttered.

"You don’t need to understand anything, Dear. Just trust . I am your father, and I know what’s best for you," Marcus affectionately reminded, before his tone took on a darker shade once more. "Your mother died in the hands of a werewolf the mont she brought you to this world. That’s why I wanted to rule the Clan and dominate the Mirage. I have to take down the Sun Clan. They were the ones that started it all..."

Raine could only blink as she helplessly uttered, "How can I trust you when you’re always keeping

in the dark, Father?" With a silent beat, she waited for anything to break the silence. When there was nothing left, she stood up and said, "I’m done eating. Let

return to my residence and wrap things up. Also, I might not be able to join you for dinner later."

At her words, her father only gave her a nod of approval. And with that, Raine left the dining room area without so much as a preamble.

As she walked along the hallway, Raine saw Randall sitting on a bench. Not having anything better to do, she let out a sigh and sat beside him. Knowing the ti, the man probably had an appointnt with her father after lunchti.

"How co you only co out whenever father is around?" Raine casually asked. "Where did you go all this ti while he was in a coma? Did you just truly spy around for Father?"

As he expected, the man didn’t utter a single word in front of her. She couldn’t even get a proper look on his face since he always wore a black hoodie while always keeping his head down. And whenever soone would try to get a proper look on his face, he would always quickly turn around and disappear. Thinking about it now, Randall had always been a mysterious person to her.

Letting out a sigh, she mumbled, "I wonder why you only talk to Father and no one else. I do believe that you’re not human since you have abilities a re human shouldn’t have, but I can only confirm that by looking into your eyes. However, you’re soone I respect, so I won’t ever force you into anything just to quench my curiosity."

Raine let out a soft sigh before continuing. "Anyway... I wanted to thank you... I know you intentionally didn’t report anything to Father except for the things that he’s already bound to know eventually. All this ti, you’ve been with my father ever since I ca into this world. Thank you... Thank you for looking after

all this ti, Randall."

She had ant every word that she just said. Raine had been fully aware of Randall’s presence ever since she was a child. The man used to play with her back when she was a kid whenever her father wasn’t around, and she was actually rather fond of him. He had been one of her ntors during her ti in training too. All this ti, she had known that the man was silently helping her in the shadows more often than not, all while walking like a dog for his father at the sa ti.

With a smile, she stood up with one last nod. She was already about to leave when she heard him speak, "I’m sorry."

Her eyes widening, Raine turned around, only to find that Randall was no longer on the chair. With a frown, she murmured, "So he can actually speak with

if he wanted?! And all this ti he’s been communicating with

silently all these years? He’s really weird..." Shrugging at the revelation, she continued walking as she added, "How co his voice sounds so familiar though?"

Inevitably, she fell into deep thought, all while trying to rember where he had heard Randall’s voice before. However, as much as she tried, she just couldn’t rember a thing about it at all. As such, she just shook her head and brushed off the unnecessary thought.
