"Get lost!" Clara knew that he could never speak nicely. After she drove him out of the room, she quickly locked the door. She was a bit tired after the shower, so she decided to rest early that night.
She had to battle against Shirley the next day.
Clara woke up a few hours later, and felt rather sorry for him. She opened the door, and as expected, saw him squatting outside the door pitifully. He looked like a holess puppy.
"You’re awake?" Ethan looked up, his eyes watery.
Clara looked at him, half expecting him to burst into tears. She sighed and said, "Forget it. Go and sleep in the room. I’ll sleep in the cow shed." After all, she was a tough woman. She could handle sleeping in the cowshed, but it was cruel to ask a rich young heir like Ethan to sleep there.
"Thanks!" Ethan did not hesitate at all, and dashed into the room eagerly. Gone was his pitiful act and puppy dog eyes.
’Clara Blackwood, you’re a fool! He tricked you!’ Clara cursed silently as she returned to the room to take a clean blanket and pillow.
Before Clara could head to the cowshed, Ethan closed the door and hugged her from behind. "Stop ssing around, this bed is large enough for the both of us. If you think it’s cramped, I’ll just hug you and sleep."
"Ethan, let go of . Don’t be ridiculous."
"I’m serious, Clara. We have slept together before, and I promise that I’ll only hug you." Ethan raised his hand and swore solemnly.
Clara pursed her lips. "Maybe you can promise not to do anything, but I can’t... We’ve already broken up with each other, so we should keep so distance from each other. If not, things will go back to the way they were." She knew him, and she knew herself. In the past, they had also argued and wanted to break up, but they sohow slept together and made up with each other right after. Ethan always said that they would never break up because of it, and even if they did fight, they could always solve it by sleeping together.
But Clara didn’t want to make the sa mistakes again.
They would never resolve their issues if they did, and those problems would just co back to haunt them. Inevitably, she would only get hurt again if this vicious cycle continued.
"Don’t promise if you can’t. Just sleep with , and see as sothing to use. I’m not asking you for money or to take responsibility for it." While talking, Ethan started to kiss her neck, and his hands reached out to unbutton her clothes. "Stop!"
Clara stopped Ethan from going further, and said quietly, "If you do this, I’ll just be like all the other won you’ve dated. You’ll just use to sate your lust, and leave when you get bored. It makes feel cheap."
They had said that during their previous fight. She knew that it had been said out of spite, but her heart ached every ti she thought about it.
"But I’ll never get bored of you...’1 Ethan murmured hoarsely. He closed his eyes and touched her skin, allowing his instincts to guide him. He had to admit that even though their relationship wasn’t deep, their bodies were compatible. He didn’t want to give her up so easily because of that.
"You’re still talking nonsense. Don’t you realize that it matters to ? Don’t you think you should discuss it with ? Or am I just a tool to you, so you feel you don’t have to waste your ti talking to ?" Unable to stand it, Clara pushed him away and asked him, her eyes watery.
She was reluctant to accept that they had broken up, and wanted to talk it out with him, but he always seed unconcerned. Unfortunately, they had never really discussed the issue properly, and she couldn’t forget about him. This trip had given them the perfect opportunity to talk it out, but he was not taking it seriously as usual. He only wanted to sleep with her, which she couldn’t accept.
Ethan beca annoyed as he said coldly, "Clara, can you stop being so pretentious? Does it matter why I date you? It’s fine as long as we’re happy. If I’m infatuated with your body, it ans that I’m infatuated with you too. It’s not like our souls are nobler than our bodies." He liked things to be simple, and this relationship was very complicated. He had never sincerely dated won in the past, so he would only stay with them if they were physically compatible. If they weren’t, they would break up. He never really got attached, and to him, that was easy and straightforward.
But it seed that it would not work with Clara that way. Both of them wanted more, but deep down, he couldn’t adjust to it. So, they always fell out with each other because of their differing expectations.
Shirley was just a catalyst; the main thing affecting their relationship was yet to be resolved.
"All won want their n to love their souls because bodies can be replaced. Only souls are unique and can last forever!" Clara argued, tears running down her cheeks. She wished that Ethan could love her for who she was on the inside too. Although she felt like she was ordinary and boring, she wanted to be special to soone.
"Then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. I won’t fall for anybody’s soul. It’s too much for to handle," Ethan answered bluntly. His words were cruel, but he was telling the truth. A relationship like that was deep and serious, and it might be one that lasted forever... He had yet to think of his future.
"You’re lying. You love Shirley’s soul, so you’re willing to
sacrifice for her even after so many years. You’ve got no energy left in you to love another’s soul because you’re still in love with hers. So, you’re lying when you say that you can’t fall in love with my soul," Clara said sharply.
"Whatever!" Ethan could not be bothered to explain, and decided to go to sleep. ’Tsk! She’s so ddleso. What got into ? Why did I follow her here? Whatever! I’ll leave early tomorrow morning. I don’t care how pretentious she is!
