Ace sounded so practical that she had no way to argue.
"Cousin-in-law..." Helplessness overca her. "You’re so noble. You flirt with your cousin-in-law while claiming that you can’t let her cheat on Jovan... How hypocritical."
"That’s different." Ace loosened his tie, and his gaze was sharp as he said casually, "Jovan and I share the sa surna, so my family won’t be humiliated if anything happens between us. However, Justin is a Baldwin and my family’s enemy, so there’s no way you can get into a relationship with him."
"Why should I listen to you? Do I look like your slave? You have no right to ddle in my business." Joanna was disgusted by his words, so she tried her best to push him away. "Let make it clear to you-Justin is trying to win my heart. I didn’t feel anything for him before this, but a guy like him is so much nicer than an overbearing and arrogant man like you. Maybe he’s the right man for ... so I want to give him a chance!"
Ace’s eyes widened in rage. "How dare you!"
"That’s right, I’ll give him a chance... and you can’t do anything about it!" Joanna put her hands on her waist and scowled at him before running away.
Ace was rendered speechless. For the first ti, he felt helpless as he watched her run away.
The most incomprehensible thing was when a person you valued didn’t care about you... but he couldn’t figure out why he cared about her so much.
At that mont, the hospital dean and a group of attending doctors appeared, looking relieved when they found Ace. The hospital dean was gasping for breath as he hurried over to him, ’ Mr. Moran, why
are you here? We prepared a welcoming ceremony when we learned you were coming today, but you didn’t show up..."
The hospital dean was full of flattery because Moran Group had recently donated 200 million dollars to the hospital to expand it. Naturally, they had to serve their investors well.
"I just ca to visit an old friend of mine. There was no need to go to so much trouble." Ace sounded like royalty when he spoke, radiating a natural oppressive aura. It seed like he only lost control and beca helpless in front of Joanna.
What was so special about that woman? Why did he feel like they were bound together at first glance?
It was very strange, and he yearned to figure it out.
"Mr. Moran, don’t worry. Miss Garcia is doing just fine. She’ll recover and be discharged from the hospital in a week if nothing goes wrong." Joanne’s attending doctor explained carefully. "But her body is weak. It seems like sothing’s troubling her, so she’s not trying to stay alive. She doesn’t eat much either, and just relies on the IV drip to survive. It’s all a bit complex... it’d be good if you could give her so moral support."
Ace nodded. "Thank you, I’ll do that then."
The hospital dean and Joanne’s doctor walked with Ace for a while until they arrived at Joanne’s ward. Ace was about to send them off, but suddenly thought of sothing." By the way, why did Joanna co to this hospital?"
"Miss Pierce?" The hospital dean rembered Joanna, but mostly because of Justin. "She ca with Mr. Baldwin. It seems like sothing went wrong with her brother’s surgery, so they rushed him here as an ergency case. His attending doctor was hired by Mr. Baldwin though. He made a dical team with the doctors here."
"Sothing went wrong with his surgery?" Ace frowned and asked, "What happened?"
"It was an accident during a face recovery surgery. The patient couldn’t take the anesthesia and fell into a coma. It’s quite serious," a doctor from the team adjusted his glasses and said fearfully.
"I see." Ace’s features relaxed into comprehension.
Sothing had gone wrong with Quinton, and Justin had happened to help her at that ti, so she felt touched and hugged him. She had only done it out of gratitude.
Ace’s mood imdiately lifted. Won were easily moved, and they’d feel grateful even if it was just a small favor. Maybe if he hired an expert doctor to cure Quinton, Joanna might throw herself at him.
He thought about it, then said to the dean seriously, "There’s sothing I need you to do for —you must find the best doctor around to cure her brother. There’s no limit to the fee. As for the dical team, you have to stop them for now.
"Umm..." The dean looked conflicted. ’We do know an expert in this field, but Mr. Baldwin set up this team, so it might upset him if we suddenly change it."
"You’re worried about upsetting him? What about upsetting ?" Ace’s gaze turned icy, and his aura beca nacing.
The dean went pale, and swallowed nervously. "I understand, Mr. Moran. Please let us handle this."
"Make sure the effectiveness of your doctor surpasses Justin’s," Ace added casually as he walked away.
"Don’t worry, Mr. Moran. We’ll do our best." The dean gritted his teeth and decided to use all his resources and connections for this task.
The Moran family ruled the City; they’d rather take their chances with an angry Justin than an angry Ace.
Ace was silent, but he was no longer upset. ’Wait for , Joanna... You’ll be crying tears of gratitude once this is done.’
Joanna returned to Quinton’s ICU ward. Haze was waiting there, and he peered at her intently as if he were appraising a piece of art.
Feeling uneasy, she frowned and asked, "Why are you looking at like that?"
Haze gave her a goofy smile. "It’s because you’re pretty."
Joanna rolled her eyes and raised her hand threateningly." Watch your tongue."
"Don’t!" Haze pushed her palm down and suppressed his smile. "You behave differently around him now. How do I put this... It’s like your feelings for him have faded, and you don’t love him as much now. Does it an that there’s a higher chance of you falling in love with ?"
In the past, Joanna was always humble and respectful in front of Ace. He controlled everything, and he would always do as he liked with her.
But their positions had changed now. Joanna was the one who controlled the situation, and she easily affected
Ace’s emotions and forced him to yield to her demands... It was rather satisfactory from an onlooker’s point of view.
