As I guided i out of the Pavilion and back to our inn, no one tried to stop us, which I was thankful for. While I had the ans to deal with anyone who might want to get in our way, if I deployed them, my plans for this tiline could be ruined.

Still, while I understood that all actions had consequences, ShouDu and Manager Liu had yet to learn this lesson. As their elder by several centuries, I felt that it was my duty to teach them.

After sending i off to spend so ti with LiTing, I entered my inn room and wrote a quick ssage.

RuLan, during your ti with Emperor Li, did he give you any way to mark a ssage as being sent from his official disciple?

Not at all startled by a mysterious note appearing in front of her, RuLan nodded her head. “Yes, Ancestor.”

Good.

Taking out the finest sheet of parchnt and the most expensive inkstone that I possessed, I tapped into my knowledge of talisman artistry to write a letter using the fanciest calligraphy that I could muster.

To the current manager of the Rising Sun Empire Branch of the Blue Wind Pavilion,

Regarding the Dragon Gate City Branch in the Western Wastes.

Deputy Manager Liu has conspired with Su ShouDu, son of Su WeiJi, to harm the Blue Wind Pavilion. Not only has he worked to undermine the branch’s current managent, but he has also actively worked to put his own interests above those of the Pavilion’s.

I hereby order that Deputy Manager Liu, Su ShouDu, and Su ShouDu’s imdiate family face appropriate punishnt for their actions. As for the Su Clan as a whole, harm them as little as possible, but let our displeasure with their actions be known. Do not involve Su ShouDu’s uncle, WeiXian, in this matter. He is innocent.

RuLan, personal disciple of Li GuiYang, the Blue Wind Sovereign

After passing this letter into my inner world, RuLan signed it with a special red ink and stamped it with her personal seal. Then, she folded the letter and sealed it with a drop of purple wax. Finally, she pressed Emperor Li’s coin into the wax, leaving behind the image of a plum blossom.

Taking this letter in hand, I turned to the System.

“System, how much would it cost to teleport this letter to the center of the desk of the head manager of the Rising Sun Empire’s Blue Wind Pavilion?”

Cost 72.6 trillion credits.

My mouth dropped open in shock.

I already knew that the cost of teleporting a person was affected by their cultivation base, so the cost of teleporting an item being affected by that item’s Rank wasn’t exactly a surprise. But still… What kind of wax had RuLan been using?

I could only shake my head and place the letter into my storage space.

“Alright, System, let’s do this the hard way. Teleport to a secluded spot next to the Blue Wind Pavilion in the capital of the Rising Sun Empire. Then, when I say ‘return,’ teleport back here.”

I appeared in a narrow alleyway. As soon as I got my bearings, I pulled RuLan out of my inner world and handed her the letter.

“Can you… deliver this for … please?”

She just laughed and nodded.

After she left, ti slowed to a crawl, and I started tapping my foot nervously.

Had this been the correct decision? Involving the Sovereigns so early might have been a mistake.

One of my goals for this life was to find an opportunity to raid the Zhuge Clan’s vaults, and if there was a chance, I would raid the Li Clan as well. Both actions would involve the Sovereigns, so hiding from them in this life wasn’t an option. Still, should I have waited? Should I have held back?

There wasn’t even any real reason to involve Emperor Li directly like this. There were plenty of other ways that I could have handled ShouDu. The only thing was… The thing was that with nearly any other path, Manager Liu would have been much more difficult to deal with. Only by exercising the authority of the Pavilion itself could I get him removed without causing a commotion.

Did I need to remove him? Maybe not, but I wanted to.

Thinking through all of this took ti—too much ti.

RuLan’s trip should have been rather quick. She had just needed to duck into the Pavilion and duck out again. Even if soone wanted to stop her, what could they do? She was a Martial Emperor. So, as ti wore on, I couldn’t help but feel that sothing had gone wrong.

When a pitch-black portal appeared in front of , I was sure of it.

When RuLan stepped out of this portal, she had a sheepish expression on her face.

When Emperor Li stepped out, he looked up and down with his signature granite expression. Then, he wordlessly held out a hand.

In response, I took out his original mory orb. RuLan was keeping the more recent ones safe, but I had held onto the original out of an overabundance of caution.

After absorbing the information in the orb, Emperor Li snorted at . “Disciple Fang, it seems that you enjoy causing trouble for this old man.”

I smiled and dipped my head.

He sighed.

“I will take RuLan with . Your little letter might draw a few eyes to the Wastes, but by taking in a personal disciple, I will keep the Sovereigns focused on Blue Wind City. Just…” He studied for a long mont. “Be careful with Little Shen’s formation. You will only get one chance to use it. Once the Saint’s Emissary knows that you have it, he will end you.”

Without waiting for a reply, Emperor Li pulled RuLan back through his portal, and I couldn’t help but raise my hands to massage my temples.

Then, I looked up at the sky and sighed. “Return.”

With this, I considered the whole episode with ShouDu to be nearly complete. If the opportunity presented itself, I would pop him into my inner world so that ShouLi could get a little personal revenge, but I wanted him to see the downfall of his small branch of the clan first.

The only thing I had left to do was grab XiaoFan.

So, after swallowing a Shadowed Soul Pill, I darted away to a remote corner of the Su Clan’s compound where she was being kept.

There were a few obstacles in my way, but they were easily avoided, and I quickly arrived at her bedside. After placing a couple of healing pills into her mouth, I shoved her into my inner world. A few minutes later, when I had a mont in a secluded location, I pulled her out.

“Do you have any family?”

The pills were still working to repair her broken body, but when she saw , hope kindled in her eyes. “I… I…”

I held up a hand. “Right now, I need to hurry. Do you have any family?”

“Ye… Yes. Flowing River Gorge.”

Without another word, I shoved her back into my inner world.

“System, teleport to Flowing River Gorge.”

I didn’t spend long in XiaoFan’s village. I just grabbed her parents and threw them into my inner world without much of an explanation. Then, I returned to Dragon Gate City.

With everything handled, I returned to our inn and visited the room where i and LiTing were holed up.

When I entered, i's eyes were darting around the room wildly.

I looked at LiTing. “What happened?”

LiTing shook her. “I don’t know. After you left, she was able to settle down. She was fine. Then, just a mont ago, she lost control.”

I walked in front of i and forced her to look at . “Calm down.”

When her eyes locked onto mine, her breathing slowed. However, the mont she glanced at LiTing, her panic began to rise once more.

“LiTing, please wait outside.”

Seeing the situation, though not understanding it, LiTing was quick to follow my command.

Once she was gone, i was able to calm back down.

Instinctively, I narrowed my eyes, but I did my best to put on a pleasant deanor.

“Miss Pei, can you please tell what is happening to you?”

Nearly weeping, she jerked her head up and down to nod at .

“My… My blessing. It… communicates with . It’s voices. Voices that I can’t understand. I can’t understand them, but listening to them, I know what they want to do. I know how they want to behave.”

I tapped my fingers in thought. This matched what SuYin had told long ago.

“Usually… When I look at a person, one voice is dominant, and its instructions are clear. Today, though… Today… It’s like a thousand voices are all speaking at once. They are all quiet, and I don’t know what any of them want to do, but combined, they are… overwhelming. It doesn’t matter where I look… At a person or at the floor, it’s all the sa. The voices don’t stop. When I look at you, though…”

She looked at with longing in her eyes. “When I look at you… they go silent. I was blessed a year ago, and since then… When looking at a person, usually, one of the voices is loud, and I know what it wants to do. When I look at the ground, they fade into the background, and I can ignore them, but they are still there. But they have never… They have never been silent before.”

I couldn’t help it. I had to ask myself… Was this normal? Was her blessing doing this to her for so reason, or… or was her blessing broken?

Everything she said, it… it reminded all too much of what had happened to Bao.

When Bao was around high-Rank plants with a weak soul, his blessing had driven him crazy. Could sothing similar be happening to i? But… there were no Rulers or Sovereigns here, were there?

The mont this question entered my mind, I shut my eyes, cald my thoughts, and reached out with my soul to scan the area around . Were we being spied on? I pushed my soul and my affinities to the limit, but I couldn’t sense anything in the imdiate area.

When I finally eased up on the soul power that I was releasing, I noticed that i’s eyes had beco locked on my feet, and she no longer dared to even blink.

“What’s going on?”

A frantic expression appeared on her face, but she didn’t allow her eyes to lose focus for even a second.

“I… I don’t know… It… All of a sudden, it got worse.”

I nodded. “Alright, I have one last thing to try. I’m going to send you sowhere. If there’s a problem, say so imdiately.”

She didn’t respond, but she didn't need to. Wrapping her in my intent, I pulled her into my inner world.

i arrived in the middle of a field. From where she was, she would have been able to see a few people off in the distance, but her imdiate vicinity was empty.

She looked around with her mouth open in shock.

Without saying a word, she walked toward one of the figures in the distance.

I placed a note in front of her face.

What’s wrong?

She blinked at it. “It’s… silent. Everything is… silent.”

Do you want to co back out, or do you want to send soone to et you?

i’s eyes widened in horror. “No! No… Send soone, please.”

Rubbing my chin, I tried to think who might be best in this situation.

GuiAi, I need your help…

Once GuiAi arrived, she took i by the hand and gave her a guided tour of my inner world. I watched for a few minutes, but i barely reacted to anything she saw. All she said was “It’s so quiet.”

Seeing this, I let out a sigh. I would have to figure things out with her later, but for now, the situation was stable. When I went outside to explain things to LiTing, she asked to be allowed to join i in my inner world, so I pulled her inside and let the three won spend so ti together.
