"Puff, puff, puff—"

The bodies of Dong Lingxue and Erin were tightly protected by a soft white light. As the guards noticed their escape, they began shooting at them. The bullets created ripples on the energy protection shield.

Dong Lingxue's hand was tightly held by Erin as they ran wildly towards the darkness ahead.

Her mind was in chaos, the sinister and bloody scenes she had encountered earlier almost robbed her of all decision-making ability.

She fixed her gaze on Erin's fluttering golden hair, trying hard to calm her racing heart a little before asking, slightly trembling.

"Where... are we going?"

"I don't know."

Erin shook her head, her voice bright and pleasant. As she spoke, it seed to drive away so of the surrounding darkness and gloom.

"But it's better than stupidly staying back there waiting to die... Haven't you realized? We've already been made sacrifices for so evil ritual."

Terrified and shrill screams ca from far behind them, and Dong Lingxue instinctively shrank back.

By now, they had run so distance from the altar platform.

For so unknown reason, the guards charged with driving and watching them hadn't caught up.

"There's no road ahead."

Erin led Dong Lingxue cautiously down to a stone step.

They hid beneath the stone step's protruding part; less than half a ter in front of them was a pitch-black, bottomless cliff.

This was already the very edge of the platform.

"Huh—"

Now temporarily settled, Erin breathed a slight sigh of relief and then turned to look at Dong Lingxue, continuing, "We must escape and expose Milorad's conspiracy and cris to the world."

"How do we escape?"

Dong Lingxue looked at the cliff before her, speaking in a helpless and fearful whisper, "And the Lord of Gems is the master of Lilva Star. Even if we make it out alive, we can't fight him…."

"I have a way."

Erin slowly gathered her fallen golden hair over her shoulders into a ponytail, "Lilva Star is Milorad's private property, but the people on Lilva Star are not Milorad's slaves.

We are nobles of the Empire, protected by imperial law, and the murder of dozens of noble offspring – once such a cri is exposed, not even the Will Family backing him can protect him...

Trust , we can do it."

Erin clasped Dong Lingxue's hand, speaking with determination.

Dong Lingxue stared blankly at the girl before her, seeing the determination and courage shining through Erin's lake-blue eyes. The light radiating from her at that mont made Dong Lingxue feel once again inadequate.

This girl was so remarkable.

In every way, she was much stronger than herself.

"Oh, by the way."

Erin suddenly smiled brightly, extending a hand to Dong Lingxue, "You're Dong Lingxue, right?

My na is Erin Wift, nice to officially et you."

"How... do you know my na?"

Dong Lingxue opened her eyes wide in surprise, completely unexpected that the other could accurately call her by na.

Erin playfully winked at her, smiling like a sprite.

"I noticed you on the very first day.

The surna Dong is rare, and I happen to be very interested in the heritage and origins of old noble families like the Duoling…"

"Is... is that so..."

Dong Lingxue replied awkwardly, a hint of the thrill and joy of being noticed by an "idol" mixed in with her shyness.

"Actually, I've been paying attention to you all this ti, there's sothing very special about your aura that's completely different from everyone else…"

Erin affectionately pulled Dong Lingxue's hand, her smile pure and sincere, "I've been thinking every day how great it would be to chat and beco friends with you.

You probably don't know, but I've secretly read all those books you went through on the shelf...."

Erin's enthusiasm made Dong Lingxue feel "pampered and flattered," and at the sa ti, like sunshine dispelling the dampness and gloom around her.

The two girls held hands, whispering under the rocks, and for the mont, the danger of death and fear seed far away from them.

"Do you rember once when you..."

Erin was talking brightly to Dong Lingxue, when suddenly they heard a series of urgent footsteps above their heads.

In an instant, they both fell silent.

Fear shone in Dong Lingxue's eyes as she clutched Erin's hand tightly, while the latter gently patted her back until Dong Lingxue's emotions gradually stabilized.

As the footsteps faded away, Dong Lingxue heard Erin's relaxed voice.

"It's okay, now we need to think of a way back—"

She straightened up, cautiously took two steps forward, looked up for a mont, then turned back to Dong Lingxue, gesturing for her to co over.

Dong Lingxue hesitated for a mont but eventually followed.

The platform was empty, surrounded by extre silence, with no gunshots or screams to be heard anymore.

Erin ascended the stone steps first, then turned back to pull Dong Lingxue up.

"Here, give your hand."

Just as Dong Lingxue was about to grasp Erin's outstretched hand...

A powerful surge of fear and unease enveloped her.

Dong Lingxue's outstretched hand halted in mid-air as she watched a thick crimson cloud descend from the darkness overhead, completely engulfing Erin.

In an instant, Erin's expression twisted as countless threads of crimson, like little snakes, burrowed into her body.

Her fair, delicate skin surfaced with red patterns, akin to countless insects writhing beneath.

Erin, in agony, looked at Dong Lingxue, reaching out to her with difficulty as if pleading for help.
