The quiet of the dorm room was restored once more as Qinglan returned to the balcony to continue reading the book in her hands. If Yu Xiaoxuan had paid attention, she would have realized that Qinglan was not reading the leisure book she imagined but a business managent textbook.
Qinglan read quickly, turning to the next page in no ti. It was uncertain whether she really absorbed the content at that speed.
She was engrossed in her book when the phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, Qinglan saw it was Gu Yang calling.
"Hello."
"Little sister-in-law, it’s , Gu Yang," Gu Yang’s voice ca over warm and enthusiastic.
"I know."
"Little sister-in-law, where are you right now?"
"In the school dormitory."
"That’s great," Gu Yang’s cheerful voice conveyed from the other end of the line, "I’m nearby your school right now, I’ll co to pick you up. Wait for , okay?"
Without waiting for Qinglan’s response, he hung up. Qinglan stared at the darkened screen, her brows knitting together in a slight frown.
Sure enough, it wasn’t ten minutes before Gu Yang called again. Initially, Qinglan didn’t want to answer, but after a mont’s thought, she picked up.
"Little sister-in-law, I’m at your school’s gate. Which dormitory building are you in? I’ll co straight in to fetch you."
Qinglan glanced at the bustling dormitory below and paused before replying, "No need. I’ll co to the school gate to et you."
After hanging up, she stood up, bid Yu Xiaoxuan and Fang Tong goodbye, and left. She carried nothing but her dormitory keys and phone.
Before long, Qinglan’s figure appeared at the school entrance. Gu Yang, who had kept his eyes peeled for her, spotted her instantly. He opened his car door, waved at Qinglan, and shouted, "Over here, over here!"
His voice was loud and instantly drew the attention of nearby onlookers. So had recognized Qinglan; after all, she was sowhat of a celebrity at school, and few didn’t know who she was.
Today, Gu Yang drove a yellow Ferrari, the latest model of the year, with a flashy exterior. Tall and handso, he was the epito of a wealthy eligible bachelor.
And now, this wealthy bachelor clearly ca for Qinglan. Combining this with rumors about Qinglan and Yan Shengyu from so ti ago, many onlookers felt they’d stumbled upon juicy gossip and started to stealthily take pictures with their phones.
Qinglan was fully aware of the reactions around her and regretted coming out. She considered turning back as if she didn’t recognize Gu Yang, but seeing her take no action, Gu Yang ran over to her.
"Little sister-in-law, co quickly, I am taking you to an exciting place. I guarantee you’ll witness a spectacular spectacle."
Gu Yang reached out to grasp Qinglan’s arm, which she deftly avoided. Unfazed, Gu Yang gestured for her to follow. Qinglan dismissed her thoughts of returning to the dormitory and got into Gu Yang’s car.
"What do you want from ?" Qinglan asked, her expression cold. Due to Gu Yang’s arrival, she anticipated what was to co. Though rumors didn’t bother her, it was still annoying to be the subject of whispers and pointed fingers every ti she went out.
"Little sister-in-law, there’s an underground car race tonight in the Southern Suburb. It’s thrilling. Gu Kai will also participate. Let’s go cheer him on," Gu Yang revealed the purpose of their trip.
"I’m not going," Qinglan said, her hand on the car door, ready to leave.
Gu Yang caught her hand, "Co on, little sister-in-law, this race is rare, happening once a year. Gu Kai has barely made it to the finals this year. Just co and show so support."
Most importantly, with Qinglan’s involvent, even if Fu Hengyi found out later, he wouldn’t punish them. Gu Yang felt dragging Qinglan into this was the best idea he could co up with since Fu Hengyi never allowed them to participate in such races.
The last ti he and Gu Kai participated, Fu Hengyi found out, and they were disciplined for a full two months to the point where they began to question their life choices.
Gu Yang released Qinglan’s hand as she looked where he held it, his hands pressed together in a pleading gesture, "Little sister-in-law, I beg you, co with us. I promise it’s a legit race."
In the end, Qinglan didn’t leave the car, following Gu Yang to a restaurant for a al. In Gu Yang’s words, they needed to fuel up if they were to have energy to cheer.
By the ti they finished their al and headed to the race venue, it was already seven in the evening. The race would start in thirty minutes. However, they couldn’t find Gu Kai on site.
"Where has that little rascal run off to? Little sister-in-law, you stay here; I’ll give him a call." Gu Yang sounded a bit worried, though his face didn’t show much urgency. He pulled out his phone and dialed Gu Kai’s number several tis, but no one answered, and Gu Yang was genuinely concerned now.
"Little sister-in-law, I can’t get through. Don’t tell sothing happened to Gu Kai?"
Qinglan thought for a mont, "What did he tell you before?"
"We split up after lunch. I ca to find you, and he went ho before we were to et here."
"When does the race start?"
"At half past seven."
Qinglan checked the ti, "It’s still half an hour out. There’s ti; he might be on his way. Don’t worry yet. Let’s find a place to wait for him."
Qinglan’s clear voice held a touch of chill, calming Gu Yang imdiately. He felt slightly embarrassed, though he was two years older than Qinglan, he wasn’t as composed as she was in a crisis.
A touch of sheepishness washed over Gu Yang.
"Yo, who do we have here? Isn’t this our illustrious Young Master Gu?" A sly voice rang out, and Qinglan turned to see a young man with yellow hair standing not far away. The young man was average looking, garbed in leather attire, but his expression was off-putting.
Several similarly attired individuals flanked him, their expressions equally distasteful.
Upon seeing them, Gu Yang’s expression darkened, "Lin Hao, what are you doing here? The race hasn’t started yet."
Lin Hao laughed, his gaze lingering on Qinglan, unable to shift away, "This beauty, I’ve never seen you before, is this your first ti?"
His line was delivered with a feigned gentlemanly air, but Qinglan rely furrowed her brows and before she could respond, Gu Yang stepped in front of her, blocking Lin Hao’s view, "Lin Hao, where do you think you’re looking? Want to lose those eyes of yours?"
Lin Hao’s face shifted in anger, "Gu Yang, you’re a loser, wait until you win before you strut. She’s got nothing to do with you." As he said this, he turned to Qinglan with what he believed to be a gentlemanly smile.
"This beauty, my na is Lin Hao, the young owner of the Lin Group. May I have the pleasure of your surna?"
