Shen Xitong’s face turned deathly pale, unable to believe she was looking at Shen Junyu.

Lin Yuan and the other two n stood there awkwardly, unsure whether to leave or stay. Lin Yuan glanced at Shen Xitong’s ghastly pale face and a peculiar glint flashed across her eyes.

"Wow, my hero, you’re so powerful!" Yu Xiaoxuan shouted, her face full of adoration and excitent, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at Shen Junyu.

Han Yi’s face darkened as he gave the thankless wretch a vicious stare. He could be grim and fierce towards others, but in front of Shen Junyu—the sly fox—he smiled like a lovestruck fool.

Yu Xiaoxuan glared back, thinking, ’Dead demon, filthy rogue, so what if you have big eyes? I’ll stare too. My eyes are even bigger than yours.’

Shen Xitong felt dizzy, and as she looked at Shen Junyu, her lips mumbled weakly.

"Brother."

Shen Junyu didn’t even spare her a glance, instead, he turned to Yu Xiaoxuan with a gentle voice, "Can you still walk?" This was his sister’s good friend, and since he had run into her, he naturally had to look out for her.

Yu Xiaoxuan nodded, pulling a huge smile, "I can." As she said this, she stood up but almost stumbled forward. Shen Junyu, with his quick reflexes, caught her while Han Yi silently retracted the hand he had extended.

"Be careful," Shen Junyu said after she had steadied herself, pulling his hand back.

Yu Xiaoxuan bead even brighter, "Thanks, my hero."

Han Yi curled his lip, muttering under his breath, "Silly fangirl."

Shen Junyu and Han Yi walked away with Yu Xiaoxuan, leaving Shen Xitong foolishly standing in place.

The two n exchanged looks, and one of them stepped forward, saying, "Um, Xitong, it’s getting late. Maybe we should call it a night."

Shen Xitong snapped out of her daze, her face regaining its usual poised and elegant smile, "I’m really sorry you had to see that. I had a bit of a disagreent with my sister earlier, and my brother misunderstood ."

She tried her best to explain, but to the three people present, it all sounded sowhat like a feeble attempt to cover up the truth.

"We understand, it’s normal to have conflicts with family. My brother and I used to fight," said the other man.

Lin Yuan, however, remained silent. She was deeply humiliated tonight, and if it weren’t for trying to curry favor with Shen Xitong, she wouldn’t have ended up like this. But Shen Xitong’s status in the Shen Family seed to be different from what the outside world thought. Had she bet on the wrong horse?

She was lost in thought, even forgetting the slap she received from Yu Xiaoxuan for the mont. Her whole purpose of getting close to Shen Xitong was to gain favor with the Shen Family. If Shen Xitong’s position in the Shen Family was not as important as she claid, then it was not worth her ti and emotion to continue this relationship.

"It’s late today, let’s get together another ti. I’ll host the next one," Shen Xitong spoke with a smile, as if the disheveled person from before was not her at all.

The three of them nodded in agreent, none of them keen on staying any longer.

Shen Xitong followed them out, parted ways with them at the entrance of the bar, and got into her car. Her expression darkened completely once inside, her hand gripping the steering wheel tightly, veins throbbing on the back of her hand.

"Shen Junyu, I called you ’brother’ for more than ten years, and yet you slap in the face in front of everyone. And that old hag, how dare she say that I can’t covet what is not mine? All of that was originally mine; Shen Qinglan snatched away everything that belonged to . Sooner or later, I will make Shen Qinglan spit it all out. What I want, even if it’s destroyed, I won’t let Shen Qinglan have it."

Her expression was venomous, her eyes seemingly poisoned.

A long while passed before she smiled faintly and drove away.

**

Shen Family.

Shen Qian rarely ca ho, and the family sat together for a al, which was harmonious and joyous.

Shen Qinglan enjoyed eating fish but despised the bones. Fu Hengyi attentively picked out the bones for her and then placed the fish at into her bowl. Shen Qinglan naturally picked it up and put it into her mouth—one took care of deboning while the other took care of eating, a pairing that was extraordinarily in sync.

At first, Chu Yunrong was all smiles, but gradually, her brows furrowed with concern. She glanced at Old Sir Fu, who was still chuckling away, and her look toward Shen Qinglan was filled with worry.

Fu Hengyi being considerate of Shen Qinglan was a good thing, but doing so in front of Old Sir Fu could potentially cause discontent from the male side’s head of the family.

Even in her own youth, despite her great affection for Shen Qian, she would also restrain herself in front of the elders.

In contrast, Old Sir Fu was cheerfully speaking with Old Sir Shen and occasionally inquiring about the situation in Shen Qian’s military unit, seemingly oblivious to the young couple’s intimacy.

After the al, Chu Yunrong found an excuse to call Shen Qinglan away.

"Qinglan, it’s been a few months since you and Hengyi got married. Has he been treating you well?" Chu Yunrong said thoughtfully as she began.

Shen Qinglan replied, "He treats very well."

Chu Yunrong had been observing her expression. Seeing the unconsciously softened look in her eyes when she ntioned Fu Hengyi, she felt a little reassured at heart. "Mom can see that Hengyi treats you well, but Qinglan, you’re now soone else’s daughter-in-law, and you can’t behave the sa way you did when you were at ho. Especially in the presence of his elders, you can’t let Hengyi take care of you all the ti. You need to be good to Hengyi too."

Originally, Shen Qinglan had been wondering why Chu Yunrong suddenly called her upstairs, and upon hearing this, she couldn’t help but laugh inwardly.

"Although you don’t have a mother-in-law and there’s no such thing as a mother-in-law-daughter-in-law relationship, Old Fu is still Hengyi’s grandfather. When they took a granddaughter-in-law, it was ant to take care of their grandson, but now it’s the grandson taking care of the granddaughter-in-law. How do you think that makes the old man feel?" Chu Yunrong’s words ca from the heart; after all, she was speaking to her own daughter, and to say she wasn’t concerned would be a lie.

Shen Qinglan’s face remained cool, and after listening to Chu Yunrong, she showed no emotion, just listening intently. How much she took to heart was another matter altogether.

Chu Yunrong knew the character of Shen Qinglan, so she didn’t go on and simply said, "Qinglan, you are my own daughter after all, and Mom surely hopes for your happiness."

Shen Qinglan nodded, "Thank you, Mom."

Chu Yunrong looked at her daughter’s cool features and the eternally tranquil eyes she faced, and could only sigh without saying anything more.

When Shen Qinglan left her mother’s bedroom, she bumped into Shen Qian who was about to knock on the door. She stepped aside to give him way, but he didn’t enter, only smiling at her.

Shen Qinglan raised an eyebrow. Was this couple in cahoots today, both seeking her out for a talk?

Shen Qian hadn’t expected to encounter Shen Qinglan in their room; he had just co up to ask where his wife and daughter had gone. "Shall we walk?"

Shen Qinglan nodded; even though she didn’t feel very close to this father, she still held respect for him.
