Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The Bait is Set, Waiting for the Fish to Bite

The gaming room was dimly lit with only the flicker of the computer screens. The sound effects of the ga were deafening as virtual characters slaughtered each other with flashes of blades, the wounds sealing throats.

Lu Yuan walked in and silently sat next to Lu Jing.

Lu Jing’s gaze was still fixed on the screen, “You’re here? Want to play a round and see who wins?”

Lu Yuan stared at him and, the next second, his fist flew towards Lu Jing, who was agile enough to kick back his gaming chair and swiftly dodge Lu Yuan’s attack.

At that mont, the character on the screen was killed by an enemy’s sword, and the defeat screen appeared, silencing the battle sound effects.

Lu Jing cracked a smile.

“Brother, was that really necessary? Just for scaring your woman a little? Why such a heavy hand?”

“What, you want to kill ?”

Lu Yuan stood up, rubbing his wrist, narrowing his eyes, “Shut up, you know it’s not because of Fang Yuan.”

“Then what is it for? Itchy fists? Wanting a spar?” Lu Jing curled his legs and nestled in the chair.

Lu Yuan demanded, “Lu Jing, tell the truth. Did you already know about the relationship between Fang Yuan and that girl?”

“What girl?” Lu Jing raised an eyebrow, leisurely throwing the mouse, which had its cord ripped out, onto the floor.

Lu Yuan pressed closer, “You know who I’m talking about, Lu Jing. Don’t play dumb, do you want to die?”

“Die? Of course, I don’t want to die.” Lu Jing hopped off the gaming chair and walked towards Lu Yuan with a smile, “Bro, do you really believe she can help our Lu Family break free?”

“You really knew all along.” Lu Yuan’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his eyes revealing disappointnt and anger, “Have you gone mad? She is our only chance, don’t you want to be freed?”

Lu Yuan couldn’t understand why Lu Jing would conceal the news about the rfolk, what reason could he have?

Lu Jing scoffed, kicked the chair away, and took a step back to sit on the table, swinging his legs.

“I just find it interesting. I had always thought the rfolk had been extinct, yet here they are appearing again. You guessed right, I’ve known about her existence, and even t her, but so what?”

Lu Yuan was furious, grasping Lu Jing’s neck and pinning him down on the table, his veins bulging like worms on his arms and neck, looking particularly terrifying.

Lu Jing’s face showed no sign of pain, nor did he struggle; his lips even curved up slightly, silently smiling at him.

That was just his manner; Lu Jing always had this half-dead attitude. Every mber of the Lu Family was constantly striving to find a way out, except for him, who remained aloof.

What exactly did he want?

Lu Yuan, infuriated to the point of nearly breaking his teeth, eventually released his grasp, slamming his hand on the table.

“Lu Jing, have you forgotten the pain our family has borne generation after generation? How could you betray the Lu Family?”

Faced with Lu Yuan’s confrontation, Lu Jing burst into laughter, sitting up and rubbing his neck, “Bro, why so ridiculous? Does our Lu Family even need betrayal?”

“The Lu Family is nothing more than a cursed worm, neither human nor ghost, struggling feebly.”

Lu Jing’s tone was laden with sarcasm.

Lu Yuan pulled at his collar to catch his breath, stayed silent for a while, then spoke softly, “I went back to see our father this afternoon.”

Lu Jing slowly lowered his hand, his voice slightly hoarse, “Oh? They know too? Hah, news travels fast as usual. Looks like the Lu Family isn’t fully under your control.”

“Our father commanded that you and I bring the rfolk back within half a month,” Lu Yuan walked beside Lu Jing, leaning on the table and pulling out a lighter to light a cigarette.

“Half a month? Why so much ti this ti?” Lu Jing asked with a smile.

Lu Yuan exhaled smoke, his voice dark and heavy in the dim gaming room, “Because of the Qin Family. The rfolk have a close relationship with the Qin Family, especially Qin Yu. Father fears him.”

The Qin Family’s power in Capital City and throughout the entire country at large was imnse and solid; no wonder the old monsters of the Lu Family, even desperate as ants on a heated pan, had to hold their aggression.

“How did you find out? Was it because of the livestream?” Lu Jing asked.

“The tears of the rfolk forming a rfolk pearl, even I could recognize it, do you think they could fool father and them? They have studied the rfolk all their lives, how could they be mistaken?”

“The problem indeed lies with the rfolk pearl.”

Lu Jing recalled the little rfolk he had encountered on Lingcheng Mountain and couldn’t help but scoff, “Really foolish of you not to have seized the opportunity when you had the chance.”

“This may be a heaven-sent opportunity for the Lu Family, we must grasp it, and I hope you are clear-headed about this.”

Lu Jing sneered inwardly, clear-headed? Opportunity? How do you know it’s about redemption and not atonent?

Lu Yuan turned his head to his brother, “And you? When did you find out? Where have you seen her?”

“I don’t rember.” Lu Jing leaned on the table, not wanting to tell Lu Yuan about the scent, “How do you plan to capture her? Kidnap her directly?”

“Do you want to participate in the operation?” Lu Yuan countered.

Lu Jing, tilting his head and smiling, said, “Sure, maybe we can call it the ‘Fishing Operation,’ sounds interesting.”

Lu Yuan blew out a puff of smoke, “The rfolk has always been closely guarded by Qin Yu’s side, a direct approach is not feasible, Z country is not the sa as abroad, we must not blow things out of proportion.”

“I’ve discovered that Qin Yu has been searching for things related to Xiling recently, Father suspects it’s related to the rfolk, which is a good entry point.”

“Xiling?” Lu Jing looked at the ceiling, jokingly said, “Could the rfolk really grant eternal life?”

Lu Yuan’s eyes hid in the darkness, “The bait is ready, everything is set, we just wait for the fish to bite.”

Lu Jing thought of the little rfolk on Lingcheng Mountain, feeling a bout of irritation, and closed his eyes saying,

“Is the interrogation over? Leave, don’t disturb .”

Before leaving, Lu Yuan solemnly said, “Lu Jing, no matter what you’re thinking, don’t cause trouble.”

“Otherwise, you know the consequences.”

“Rember, the rfolk are vital to the Lu Family’s legacy through the ages, they are desperate to obtain it.”

The ga room door opened and then closed, Lu Jing lay quietly on the table, each breath bringing pain to his throat.

Lu Yuan walked downstairs, and a maid handed him a red string bracelet, the pearl in his hand felt warm.

Lu Yuan summoned a subordinate, “Take this to Witte for analysis, tell him to give the results as soon as possible.”

“Yes.”

The subordinate had just left the hall when Fang Yuan rushed downstairs in a bathrobe, frantically searching for sothing.

Lu Yuan went over to take her hand, asking with concern,

“What’s wrong? What happened?”

Fang Yuan furrowed her brows and looked up at Lu Yuan, “Nothing much, just can’t find sothing. I clearly rember placing it with my clothes on the bed before bathing, but now I can’t find it.”

Lu Yuan stroked her head, gently saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll have the maid help you look for it, we will definitely find it.”

Fang Yuan had no choice but to nod.

Lu Yuan lifted her chin, “Look at , Yuanyuan, don’t be distracted by other things, tonight you are mine.”

Fang Yuan’s heartbeat quickened, from the mont she stayed behind to change clothes and take a bath, she had made up her mind to be with him.

She was ready to take a leap of faith and trust Lu Yuan.

“Will you always be good to ?”

Fang Yuan held his hand, hoping as she asked.

Lu Jing lowered his head to kiss the palm of her hand, “Promises are empty, whether I am good to you or not, you can test it over ti, provided you’re willing to give the chance.”

Fang Yuan blushed and nodded, the next second, Lu Yuan scooped her up by the waist, turned, and headed upstairs.
