At noon, unable to reach the village, they could only rest on the mountain and eat so dry food.
The midday sun was intense, and with no vegetation on the mountain, the nearly forty-degree heat almost roasted the two of them.
Their skin was dehydrated from the heat, but resting in such conditions ant waiting to be scalded to death, so they had to keep moving forward.
By nightfall, they finally reached a village.
There was a river outside the village, and they jumped into the water like dehydrated fish with great joy.
Fan Rou splashed around a couple of tis in the water.
The river was small, the water shallow, barely reaching their calves, which prompted Fan Rou to say, "In such little water, what are you swimming for?"
Fan Rou half-lied in the water, "I’m just trying to prove I’m still alive."
Footsteps, sowhat heavy, ca from the riverbank, and both looked up to see a person and a buffalo.
A boy of about sixteen or seventeen, leading a water buffalo, stood not far from them, perhaps puzzled by their attire, or maybe he didn’t expect anyone to be soaking in the river.
He was stunned, just standing there blankly a short distance away.
As Number Five was wiping her body, she had rolled up her pant legs and sleeves, exposing her bright arms and thighs.
Moreover, the short sleeves she wore had a round collar that was quite cut, and with her vigorous movents just now, a glimpse of spring had unexpectedly erged from her chest.
But she didn’t care much. To her, the person across the river at most appeared to be a child, and she wouldn’t mind even if it were an adult man.
Anyway, he could only look but not touch; if he dared to pounce over, she’d disable him with a kick.
Just as she was about to speak, feeling a bit annoyed at his staring, he withdrew his gaze, leading his buffalo silently down the river.
When the buffalo drank, he washed his hands as well.
Fan Rou proactively walked over and struck up a conversation: "Little boy, we’re passing by here, is there a place we can stay?"
"Little boy, are you calling ?" He pointed at himself.
Fan Rou nodded, "Yeah, who else am I calling?"
If she didn’t need to get more information, she would have rolled her eyes at him.
"The villagers call big brother, so I’m not used to being called little boy," he said with a silly smile.
So that’s how it is, Fan Rou laughed, "I guess you seed younger, so naturally I called you little brother. My sister and I got lost and ended up here by accident. We’re not sure if there’s anywhere to stay."
"You can stay in the village for the night," the boy said.
"Can we stay at your place? Don’t worry, we won’t stay for free," Fan Rou quickly followed up with her request.
The boy shyly smiled but nodded, "Sure, although my place is quite simple, please don’t mind."
"Why would we mind?" Fan Rou waved her hand, "By the way, we have another friend, but we got separated. Have there been any unfamiliar faces in the village lately?"
"There was one, but he fell from the mountain and is still unconscious. He was rescued by Zhu Hua. I’m not sure if he’s your friend," the boy thought for a mont and said.
Fan Rou asked urgently, "Where is he now? Can you take to see him?"
"Sure, but you’ll have to wait a bit. My buffalo needs a bath," he said just as the water buffalo walked into the river and sank in, splashing water everywhere.
Splashing water all over Fan Rou’s face.
She wiped her face, cursing silently in her heart, but showing no expression on her face. Just as she was about to say more, Number Five gave her a look.
