Remo sat by Abby’s hospital bed, the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor providing the only sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic swirl of thoughts. The doctors had assured him that Abby was going to be fine. The knife wound had been deep but not fatal. She was lucky—or so they said. But as Remo sat there, holding her hand while she slept, his mind was anything but at ease.

Nicole’s words echoed in his mind, over and over: "She’s dangerous! She’s been planning this—she set up!"

At first, the accusation had seed absurd. He had stord into the room to find Abby bleeding on the floor, with Nicole standing over her, hands covered in blood. It seed straightforward—Nicole had attacked her. But now, sitting here, with nothing but the silence of the hospital around him, doubt gnawed at him like an insidious parasite.

The way Abby had looked at him, the vulnerability in her voice when she had begged him to help her, it had all been so convincing. And yet, there was sothing that felt too perfect about it all. He wanted to believe Abby—he loved her—but Nicole’s desperation, her frantic pleas, kept resurfacing in his thoughts.

Abby stirred, her eyelids fluttering open slowly. When her gaze found him, her eyes softened, a tired smile tugging at her lips.

"Remo..." she whispered, her voice weak but full of relief. "You’re here."

He squeezed her hand gently, trying to push the storm of emotions brewing inside him to the back of his mind. "Of course I’m here," he said softly. "How are you feeling?"

Abby let out a small sigh, shifting slightly in the bed. "Sore... but better now that you’re with ."

The warmth in her voice should have soothed him, but instead, it left him with an unsettling weight in his chest. She looked so fragile, so delicate, yet beneath that exterior, he knew there was a strength, a determination that had always drawn him to her. But had that strength crossed a line?

"Abby," Remo started, his voice hesitating, unsure if he wanted to ask what had been eating away at him since the incident. "What exactly happened with Nicole?"

Abby’s expression shifted slightly, a flicker of discomfort crossing her features before she masked it with a soft smile. "I already told you... I invited her over to talk, to settle things between us. I wanted to move past all this nonsense with the tabloids. But..." She paused, her eyes glistening with tears that she blinked away quickly. "She snapped. She grabbed the knife... I tried to stop her, but she... she stabbed ."

Remo studied her carefully. Her words sounded so believable, yet sothing about the way she said them, the slight hesitancy, the subtle flicker of sothing darker behind her eyes—it didn’t sit right with him.

"Nicole claims you set her up," he said, keeping his tone neutral but watching her closely for any sign of reaction.

Abby’s face darkened, her hand tightening slightly around his. "Nicole’s a liar, Remo," she said firmly, her voice trembling with barely restrained anger. "She’s trying to turn you against . You know she’s been obsessed with you. She’s jealous—jealous of what we have, of our love. You can’t let her get in your head."

Her words hit him hard, the passion behind them unmistakable. She was right—Nicole had always seed to push boundaries, always trying to provoke Abby, to assert her presence in ways that made Remo uncomfortable. But... could Abby be telling the truth? Was this simply Nicole’s last desperate attempt to drive a wedge between them?

"I just... I don’t understand why Nicole would go to such lengths," Remo said, his voice quiet, almost to himself. "It’s hard to believe she’d try to hurt you like that."

Abby sat up a little in bed, her expression softening as she reached for his face, her fingers brushing his cheek tenderly. "I know this is hard, Remo. I know you’ve known Nicole for a long ti. But she’s dangerous... She’ll do anything to tear us apart. You’ve seen it yourself, haven’t you? The way she manipulates. Please, believe ."

Her touch was warm, her gaze pleading, but there was an edge to it, sothing that made Remo’s heart race for reasons he didn’t fully understand. He wanted to believe her, wanted to trust her—after all, she was his wife, the woman he had vowed to protect. But the doubts refused to leave him.

Before he could respond, the door to the hospital room creaked open, and a nurse stepped in, interrupting the mont.

"Mr. Quinn," the nurse said politely, "the police will need to take your statent regarding the incident soon. They’ll also need to speak with your wife."

Remo nodded, his stomach twisting uncomfortably. "Thank you. We’ll be ready."

As the nurse left, Abby’s grip on his hand tightened, her eyes flashing with panic. "Remo... you have to tell them what happened. You have to tell them that Nicole attacked ."

The desperation in her voice sent a shiver down his spine. He looked into her eyes, searching for sothing—anything—that would give him clarity. But all he found was that sa vulnerability, that sa mixture of love and fear that had captivated him from the start.

"I’ll handle it," Remo said softly, though even he wasn’t sure what he ant by that.

Abby relaxed slightly, but her eyes were still wide, still filled with an intensity that unsettled him. "I don’t want to lose you, Remo," she whispered, her voice trembling. "Please don’t let her co between us."

His heart ached at the pain in her voice, and he leaned down to kiss her forehead. "You won’t lose , Abby. I promise."

But as he said the words, that seed of doubt continued to grow, the weight of uncertainty pressing down on him. He didn’t know what the truth was anymore. Everything felt like a tangled web, and no matter how much he tried to unravel it, he kept getting more ensnared.

Abby’s eyes fluttered closed as exhaustion finally took over, her hand loosening its grip on his. Remo sat back in his chair, watching her sleep, the gentle rise and fall of her chest the only sign of calm in an otherwise turbulent storm.

As he sat there, alone with his thoughts, one question haunted him, louder than the rest: Was Nicole right?

And if she was... what had he just gotten himself into?

The answer remained elusive, but one thing was clear: this was far from over.
