Abby nodded, her heart heavy with the weight of his promise. She knew that Cage was fiercely loyal to her, willing to go to any lengths to protect her and seek justice for the wrongs done to her.

As the conversation turned to darker matters, Abby couldn’t help but feel a knot of fear tightening in her chest. The truth of her father’s death lood over her like a shadow, casting a pall over her already troubled mind.

"Do you know who killed Dad?" Abby asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She watched as Cage fidgeted, a telltale sign that he was hiding sothing from her.

"No," Cage replied, his tone carefully neutral. "I’m still investigating."

Abby felt a pang of disappointnt at his response, knowing instinctively that he was lying to her. But she didn’t press the issue further, choosing instead to bury her doubts and fears beneath a facade of acceptance.

"Hmm... so now what’s next?" Abby asked, trying to push aside the lingering sense of unease that plagued her.

Cage’s response was grim but practical, his words a stark reminder of the harsh reality they faced. "Announce the death of your father to the world and watch the power play from the shadows. I’m sure Harrison would be delighted."

Abby sighed, her shoulders slumping with the weight of the burden placed upon her. "I’m scared," she admitted, her voice barely audible.

But before she could voice her doubts, Cage interrupted her, his voice surprisingly gentle. "Don’t worry, Abby," he reassured her. "You have , and as much as I hate to admit it, that Quinn guy really cares about you. You’ll be fine."

Abby managed a weak smile at his words, grateful for his unwavering support. But as Cage’s next question hung in the air, Abby felt a flicker of unease stir within her.

"Do you love him?" Cage asked, his tone carefully neutral.

Abby stiffened, a faint flush staining her cheeks as she struggled to find the right words. "Yes," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

She watched as a shadow crossed Cage’s features, a fleeting glimpse of hurt and disappointnt that he quickly masked behind a forced smile.

"Do you think he would ever want you if he finds out the truth?" Cage pressed, his voice tinged with curiosity.

Abby’s heart clenched at the thought, her mind racing with the implications of Cage’s question. "He won’t," she replied abruptly, her voice hollow with resignation.

Cage’s smile faltered for a mont before he regained his composure, his gaze steady as he t Abby’s eyes. "For your sanity, I really hope so,"

Abby felt a pang of guilt at the hurt she had inadvertently caused Cage. She had always known, deep down, that Cage harbored feelings for her beyond friendship. But she had chosen to ignore them, burying her own conflicted emotions beneath a facade of normalcy.

"I’m sorry, Cage," Abby murmured, her voice barely audible as she t his gaze. "I never ant to hurt you."

Cage shook his head, a small, sad smile playing at his lips. "It’s okay, Abby," he replied, his tone gentle. "I’ve always known where I stand with you."

As Abby and Cage conversed, the door creaked open, and Remo stepped into the room, his gaze imdiately locking onto the scene before him.

Cage seated on the bed beside Abby, their heads bent together in conversation.

A flicker of jealousy flashed across Remo’s features, his jaw tightening imperceptibly as he took in the scene before him. He felt a pang of unease gnawing at his chest, an unfamiliar sensation stirring within him as he watched the exchange between Abby and Cage.

Clearing his throat to announce his presence, Remo stepped further into the room, his eyes never leaving Abby’s form. He tried to mask his discomfort with a forced smile, but the tension in the air was palpable, hanging between them like a heavy veil.

Abby glanced up at the sound of Remo’s voice, her eyes widening in surprise at the sight of him standing there. She felt a pang of guilt tugging at her heart as she realized how her conversation with Cage must have appeared to Remo.

"Remo," Abby greeted him, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "Sorry—we were discussing my father’s funeral plan."

Remo forced a smile, his gaze flickering briefly to Cage before returning to Abby. "It’s okay. I just wanted to check in on you," he replied, his tone casual despite the turmoil roiling within him.

Abby nodded, a faint blush staining her cheeks as she realized the implications of Remo’s unexpected visit. She felt a pang of guilt tugging at her heart, knowing that she had unwittingly put him in an uncomfortable position.

Cage, sensing the tension in the air, rose from the bed, a knowing smile playing at his lips. "I should go," he said, his voice laced with amusent. "I’ll leave you two alone."

As Cage made his exit, Remo’s eyes followed him, a flicker of resentnt flashing across his features. He forced himself to focus on Abby, pushing aside the feelings of jealousy and insecurity that threatened to consu him.

Remo’s expression softened as Abby spoke, his gaze lingering on her with a mix of curiosity and vulnerability. "You two seem really close," he remarked, his tone carefully neutral.

Abby forced out a smile, her heart pounding in her chest as she struggled to maintain her composure. "Yeah, we are," she replied, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "He’s like my elder brother. My dad kind of took care of him, and he stayed with us for a while."

Remo’s brows furrowed slightly, a flicker of sothing unreadable crossing his features. "Are you jealous?" Abby teased, a playful glint in her eyes as she tried to lighten the mood.

To her surprise, Remo didn’t brush off her question with a laugh or a dismissive comnt. Instead, he t her gaze head-on, his eyes filled with a raw honesty that took her breath away.

"Yeah, maybe I am," Remo admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I can’t help but feel a little jealous seeing you with him, knowing how close you two are."

Abby’s heart skipped a beat at his words, her pulse quickening with a mixture of surprise and hope. She hadn’t expected Remo to be so open about his feelings, so vulnerable in his admission of jealousy.

But as she looked into his eyes, she saw sothing there that mirrored her own feelings – a longing, a yearning for sothing more than just friendship. And in that mont, Abby knew that their connection ran deeper than she had ever imagined.

Unable to resist the pull of her emotions any longer, Abby grabbed Reno’s hand, "You don’t have to be jealous," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "You’re the one I care about, Remo. You’re the one I want to be with."
