"What should we do?" Moqian took a drag on his cigarette, looking rather puzzled. "Are you joking? Even the Sages couldn’t revive her; do you think two hypnotists from the seven continents and four oceans can do it?"
"You and I both know what Su Wen’s ntal problem is—it’s nothing more than the death of her child and her brother," he continued. "But it’s been twenty years, her brother hasn’t returned, and her child is already dead. Who can wake her up?"
Upon hearing this, the Third Madam cald down.
"You’re right."
Su Wen will definitely not wake up.
In the dical room.
The ice bed was surrounded by various dical instrunts, displaying dense data on their screens.
This was Ying Zijin’s first ti seeing the famous Madam Su Wen of the City of the World.
The woman lay quietly on the ice bed, her appearance unchanged from twenty years ago.
Her looks might not be stunningly beautiful, but her aura was unmatched.
Ying Zijin lowered her eyelashes, sat down by the ice bed, and took out a long case containing Golden Needle and silver needles.
As soon as she opened it—
"Stop!" A doctor hurriedly ca from a nearby office, his expression stern. "What are you doing?"
Ying Zijin’s voice was calm: "Acupuncture."
"Acupuncture?" The doctor laughed angrily, "You can’t perform acupuncture. Are you hypnotists or traditional Chinese doctors?"
"Both," Sinai frowned, "Why can’t we perform acupuncture?"
"I’m sorry." The doctor still refused, polite yet aloof. "We absolutely do not allow an outsider to perform such outdated dical techniques on Madam Su Wen."
What era is this, and they’re still using acupuncture?
This is sothing the City of the World discarded centuries ago.
With advanced technology now, intelligent AI has already replaced much of human work.
In a little while, even the Four Great Knight Orders might be replaced by robots.
So, there’s no such thing as hypnotists in the City of the World.
The doctor didn’t plan to reason with an assistant either. She turned around: "Mr. Yu, let alone if she inserts a needle, even if Madam Su Wen loses a single hair or soone touches her shoulder, the chips and instrunts will transmit all the data to the Sage Academy."
"If by then, Madam Su Wen doesn’t wake up—" Her sharp eyes scrutinized the two of them, "you will be taken away by the Knight Order of the Sage Academy and executed imdiately. I’m not joking."
Sinai crossed her arms, her gaze icy: "If you don’t even try, how do you know she won’t wake up?"
"Miss Sinai, the risk assessnt of acupuncture treatnt shows a danger index of 99.9%." The doctor tapped in the air, and soon a 3D screen appeared, suspended in mid-air. "You’ve stayed in the research institute for so long, you must know the instrunts don’t make mistakes."
It listed all the possible outcos of Su Wen undergoing acupuncture.
Imdiate death: 50%
Permanent coma: 20%
No change: 15%
Slight improvent: 5%
...
Chance of waking up: only 0.1%
Sinai frowned.
The doctor was right.
This was sothing beyond their control.
The Third Madam was afraid to touch Su Wen because of the Sage Academy.
She trusted Ying Zijin, but neither the Sage Academy nor the other mbers of the Leaangle Family did.
Who would trust soone who just arrived at the City of the World?
"There’s no need." Ying Zijin put down the Golden Needle. "Not for now."
The doctor finally let her guard down: "Alright, I will temporarily disable the defense system, as long as you don’t cause any harm to Madam Su Wen."
She pressed a button, and the protection on the ice bed was instantly removed.
Ying Zijin raised her hand, placing it on Su Wen’s wrist, her fingers moving slightly.
The woman’s body was very cold.
After a few seconds, Ying Zijin let go.
Sinai’s expression tightened: "How is it?"
"She still has the will to live, but she doesn’t want to wake up," Ying Zijin nodded. "Simply put, she has created a beautiful dream for herself. This dream is better than reality, so she sees no need to wake up."
"In psychology, we call this ’escape’," Yu Xuesheng added. "It’s human nature to avoid pain and seek pleasure. I gave the sa diagnosis a few years ago."
"But her condition has improved sowhat now because I observed so external force trying to break her dream. It’s very painful for her, but if the dream is broken, as long as she endures it, she can wake up."
The doctor couldn’t listen anymore.
She had been personally assigned by the Sage Academy, in charge of Su Wen’s case for nearly ten years.
All the most precious dical instrunts were used, to no avail.
"Hmm," Ying Zijin said, "Recently, has she shown any physical reactions?"
