Chapter 30: Their reaction.
ELLA.
I winced the mont my eyes flung open.
A sharp, throbbing pain shot through my head, forcing a soft groan out of my lips as I blinked slowly, trying to adjust to the brightness above .
White.
All I could see was white.
The ceiling stretched above , cold and unfamiliar, and for a few seconds, I simply stared at it blankly, my mind struggling to catch up with my surroundings.
Where... was I?
My thoughts felt heavy, like they were moving through fog, refusing to piece together properly.
Then, I heard a sound, soft and rhythmic.
Beep... beep... beep...
The steady echo of a monitor.
It pulled
back.
With effort, I turned my head slightly toward the direction of the sound, every movent sending a dull ache through my body. My gaze landed on the drip stand beside , the clear fluid slowly flowing down the tube.
And just like that...reality settled in.
I was in the hospital.
My breath hitched faintly as mory ca rushing back all at once, crashing into
without warning.
Alex.
He was there.
At the triplets’ place.
The tension... the confrontation...and then...the stairs—that hand and the push.
My body stiffened instantly as panic surged through .
My pup.
My hands moved instinctively, trembling slightly as they pressed against my stomach.
Was my pup okay?
The question echoed loudly in my mind, fear tightening around my chest as my breathing grew uneven.
But before I could spiral further...The door burst open.
The sudden sound made
flinch, my heart jumping violently against my ribs, and then a sudden surge, and a strange sensation rushed through .
It was overwhelming, sharp and unfamiliar yet deeply instinctive. It sent a shiver down my spine, freezing
in place as sothing within
stirred.
And then...Nyx’s voice echoed clearly in my mind.
"Mate!"
I froze.
Completely.
My fingers tightened slightly against the bedsheet as my eyes lifted toward the doorway.
And there they were, the three of them—The Alpha triplets.
My breath caught in my throat.
Of all people...
Of all the possible fates the Moon goddess could have given ...It had to be them.
Three for a second chance.
No...
No, this couldn’t be happening.
I had been trying so hard to stay away from them, to ensure to keep my distance. To avoid getting tangled in whatever this was between us.
And now...
This?
My heart pounded unevenly in my chest as disbelief settled deep within .
I didn’t know whether to laugh... or panic.
I watched them carefully, my body tense, waiting, expecting them to rush over like they always did.
To hover.
To touch.
To check on .
Because sohow, without realizing it, I had subconsciously gotten used to it—their closeness, their presence but...they didn’t move, not even a single step.
They just stood there far away.
All three of them.
Their eyes fixed on , holding sothing I couldn’t quite understand.
Sothing unfamiliar and sothing heavy.
I swallowed hard, my confusion deepening as I looked from one face to the other.
What... was that look?
What exactly had gotten into them?
Lawrence cleared his throat softly, the sound breaking through the thick silence that had settled in the room.
"Are you still feeling any pain?" he asked.
His voice was calm... but distant, too distant because I could hear it and I could feel it.
It wasn’t the sa tone he used before, there was no warmth, no softness, just sothing restrained... sothing controlled.
And it made my chest tighten.
"Yes, I... I an no, I am not," I replied quickly, my words coming out uneven as I lowered my head.
My fingers found their way to my lips almost instinctively, nibbling on them as a nervous habit took over.
But he didn’t respond, not a word.
The silence that followed was unbearable, heavy, awkward and uffocating.
I wished—honestly wished—they would just leave.
Anything would be better than this... than them standing there, staring at
like I was sothing they didn’t recognize anymore.
And then...As if they had heard my thoughts...They turned.
All three of them.
Moving toward the door.
Relief began to creep in, slow and quiet, as I watched them take those steps away from .
But it didn’t last, because just before they reached the door...they stopped and fully they all turned back.
My heart skipped.
"Why didn’t you tell us you were pregnant?"
Their voices ca together, perfectly in sync.
And the question...It hit
like a blow.
My face paled instantly.
Pregnant.
They knew.
How?
My breath caught as panic surged through , my mind racing for answers I didn’t have.
And then...It clicked.
The nurse.
That was why they had been acting that way earlier, that look in their eyes, that distance and that tension.
It all made sense now.
Instinctively, my hands moved to my stomach, wrapping protectively around it as though I could shield my pup from everything... from them.
But the mont I did... I saw it---Their reactions, their fists clenched tightly at their sides, the tension in their bodies rising visibly.
The air shifted again and before I could react...Lawrence stepped forward closing the distance between us in seconds.
His hand shot out, grabbing my wrists and pulling them away from my belly.
"Tell ," he said, his voice low, edged with sothing dangerous, "do you love Alex so much that you’re willing to keep his child?"
His grip tightened.
Pain shot through my wrists, making
wince imdiately.
"Lawrence... you’re hurting ," I managed to say, my voice barely steady.
That was when his expression changed. His eyes widened slightly, as though he hadn’t realized what he was doing.
And just like that...He let go, taking a step back but the tension didn’t ease. If anything...It grew worse.
"I don’t care about anything, Theresa," Leonard’s voice ca next, firm and cold as he stepped forward to take Lawrence’s place, his gaze locked onto mine, unwavering. "All I know is this..." he continued, his tone leaving no room for argunt, "as long as you are under my roof..." He paused briefly, then finished. " You are not keeping that child."
My breath hitched.
The words didn’t register at first.
But when they did...shock flooded through .
"What...?" I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
