Chapter 68: Ch 68: Returning to Dungeon #36- Part 1

"What the hell happened here—? I have never seen such a scene not caused by a hunter... but wasn’t no one allowed to co here? Did the Hunter’s Association—"

Lynn questioned as he looked around and even I wanted answers. But I knew that sitting here won’t get

any.

So I needed to let the black mass out and ask him what happened. Before that, I needed to cover other grounds first.

"Lynn, do you trust ? Then, I want you to take a vow for

to keep whatever is going to happen here a secret. Do you think you can do that for ?"

I asked the hunter who entered the dungeon with

and he looked confused at first.

"Huh—? Why do I need to... alright, I understand. I won’t ask any questions and I trust you completely. Do what you need to. Here, I will give you a vow as well."

Lynn was truly committed to helping

and his vow felt sincere. My system registered his promise not to tell anyone what happened here and I finally took out the black mass from my pocket.

Kuro seed restless and it was buzzing with energy when I took the small vial out. And then, I opened the vial and Lynn tensed as he saw the black mass solidify and form a person.

"Finally, I am out of my cage. Tsk, you need to find a better way to bring

to dungeons with you. That bottle felt suffocating."

I finally let Kuro out of the bottle and his first instinct was to complain? How very... human of him.

"Ace, I know that I said I won’t question you and trust you, but you might want to explain this to

a little before I misunderstand?"

Lynn asked, his voice threatening to slip into an Alpha tone as he looked at the creature. Before I could say anything, Kuro spoke up.

"Don’t get your insides all twisted, human. I am only here to help out one human and that is Kyle. I do not care about anything else at this point. Hmm, looking from what has happened around us, it is clear to tell that the guardian for this dungeon is awake. It won’t be long before it starts to change into a temple for our lord. His influence is strong here."

Kuro spoke, his tone changing to delighted midway as he talked about the dungeon and awakening.

I had no idea what he was talking about, but I wanted to know more.

"Care to explain?"

I asked and the black mass humd. For a minute, it felt like he wouldn’t open his mouth to tell us. But then he seed to have changed his mind.

"You already know that our lord is on his way to return, right? These are just preparations for it. Soon, 15 temples and 15 high priests will rise to hold the soul-combining ceremony where the two halves of our lord will finally reunite and take their lover with them. Then, we shall have unlimited peace and prosperity. How romantic, right?"

Kuro sounded as if he was in a trance when he spoke.

The more I heard him speak, the more I felt like I understood what these creatures were trying to do. But most of the stuff was still unclear.

But I did realize one thing at least—this dungeon and by proxy, everything in the vicinity was in danger.

"Hey, how strong is a high priest?"

Lynn asked, speaking up from behind . He looked confused but seed to have sowhat grasped what was happening.

"Huh—! Didn’t you humans already face a high priest before? I am sure that it was the dungeon where our lord first showed his presence and helped Kyle out. That high priest was not fully awakened yet, so you can take a guess."

Kuro told

and I tensed hearing that.

Lynn turned toward

to ask

what that ant, but he noticed my tense look.

"That S-class dungeon and its boss... was not a fully awakened High Priest? We are in for so tough tis. Tsk, we need to stop the high priest from awakening."

I told Lynn who opened his mouth to question . But he must have sensed the severity of the situation as well because he just nodded.

"Hmm, I would rather not have you face the high priest. But I have a feeling you would go and seek it out anyway, even if I tell you not to. So I will show you the way around anyway."

Kuro told

and I felt suspicious of his motives.

After all, he had no reason to help us out in any regard. And every ti Kuro decided to help

out, I felt suspicious of him.

There was... just sothing about him that made

feel as if I could not trust him... or maybe it was just my nature as a hunter that made

cautious against a monster.

Kuro noticed my hesitation and he walked over toward . I took a step back unconsciously and even Lynn moved forward.

But Kuro was too fast for both of us and he ended up cupping my face before I knew it.

"I can tell that you are suspicious of , little hunter and you are free to be as well. But do try and trust

a little. You will find that I am a much better help than you think."

Kuro told

before he quickly backed off. I was left all alone, looking at his back with a startled expression.

"Are you sure we can trust that thing? Isn’t it a monster as well? Even if it’s helping us, it can be a trap."

Lynn asked

as he quickly caught my shoulder and pulled

back. Kuro heard him and just scoffed.

"You can think all you want, but if you deny my help, the only one in trouble would be you. And don’t think I am doing this out of the goodness of my heart. I have my reasons as well. Besides, whether I help you or not, nothing would change. Our lord will still return just fine."

Kuro sounded confident in that fact. It was a kind of confidence that ca with certainty about a fact and I imdiately wanted to ask more.

But sothing told

that now was not the ti to be probing Kuro for more answers. I would get ti for that later.

"We can stand here all night and you can question , or I can lead you around to where you want to go. The choice is yours to make."

Kuro told us and I knew what he was hinting at—we were here on a ti limit and if we did not hurry, then other people will start to enter the dungeon as well.

"Ace, what do you want to—"

"For now, call

Kyle if you’re not going to use Manet. I will be heading to check out the dungeon more. You should leave and tell the association about what is happening. They are more likely to listen to you than to

right now."
