Chapter 35: Ch 35: What is this Monster? - Part 3

"Hey, I am back. Sorry for being late. I got stuck sowhere—"

I was not even finished speaking when I felt Theo’s arms close around

and he pulled

into his chest.

"Y-You are back-! When you did not appear, I thought the worst had happened and I—"

Theo’s eyes almost had tears in them. I knew I should find this irritating and annoying but for so reason, it was hard for

to find Theo annoying.

He just looked like a giant and adorable puppy when he pulled stunts like this and I could not bring myself to hate him for any of this.

"I understand. B-But can you let go now? Breathing is getting harder for ."

I asked and Theo quickly let

go with a sheepish look on his face.

Emma and Ben walked over to

as well, their faces filled with concern and Theo stepped toward

just a little more so that he could stand behind

and fill the space at my back.

"So, what did you go out to do, Kyle? It’s quite late."

Emma asked and I almost felt tongue-tied before my mind made up an excuse to give her.

"Ah-! It’s nothing. I suddenly had a craving for ice cream so I wanted to get one badly. Unfortunately, the shop near our store was closed, so I went a little further to get one... now that I think about it, I could have gotten it at any store and not a desiccated ice cream store... hahaha."

I tried to make my reaction as genuine as possible but doubt was clear in the couple’s eyes.

Ultimately, Ben took my excuse and sighed.

"It must be tough being an oga. The sudden cravings can be a little too much... especially when you are near your cycle. Make sure to take your suppressants so that your heat doesn’t co."

Ben reminded

and I nodded.

Thankfully, humanity had advanced enough so that the suppressants no longer caused any health issues, as long as one still underwent their heat once a year.

I had not had mine in quite a while, but I was also not about to have one right now.

"Don’t worry. I have restocked my suppressant supply. I will be just fine. Now, shall we head back to sleep?"

I asked and the others nodded.

Theo tried to follow

back to my bed, but I kicked him out. Not that it mattered much because when I woke up the next morning, he was still in my bed, sleeping away like a baby.

I decided to let him sleep and went ahead to refresh myself. I started to stock up on supplies just before the PC café was supposed to open and both Emma and Ben went to the store to check on supplies.

The door opened before the opening ti and a tired person entered... well, a few people entered. But I only knew one of those people.

"I am sorry but the café is not open right now. May I ask you to co back a little later?"

I asked Rhiner and his group that looked ready to collapse. They had clearly co back from an overnight investigation and they did not look happy.

One of the young alphas in the back got so agitated by my words that he walked toward the counter and leaned toward .

"Hey, you stupid oga, don’t you know not to ss with hunters when they are tired and cranky? Do you want

to bash your head in—"

Rhiner acted before the young and rude alpha could cause any more damage and smashed his head into the counter. That left a crack in the counter and Rhiner groaned in agitation.

"Stop being rude... Kyle, we are sorry, but can you take an ergency order for us and give us coffee? We would pay double... and for the counter as well. Otherwise, I am afraid we would collapse soon."

The alpha hunter spoke without any energy. He did look drained and I felt bad for him.

After all, even I knew the horrible work ethics of hunters, especially those who were polite and could not say no. They were worked like dogs by the upper managent.

To those people, hunters might as well be weapons they could use to boost their own ego and show dominance.

’As much as I don’t want to start work early, it would be even worse to have 5 hunters collapse like this in front of the counter in the café. I might as well help them out, if only for the sake of the café’s reputation.’

The alphas behind Rhiner were giving

hopeful looks and I sighed.

"Please sit for now and tell

what you want. I will serve you. There is no need to pay double price, but I would like you to pay for the counter that has been smashed... but you might need to talk to Emma about it."

I told Rhiner and he looked grateful toward .

"I—thank you. I had no idea where else to go if you refused us... not that my feet have any energy left to move either."

I could not tell if Rhiner was joking around or if he was serious. But he did not wait around for longer and quickly dragged himself and his group over to a table and ordered sothing to drink and eat.

The pantry had been restocked and even though the chef was not here yet, what they ordered was not complicated enough to make, so I ended up making their food myself.

Once the small party ate, they looked alive enough to finally look human.

"Hey, thanks a lot for serving us. I thought we were gone because of that mission. Ugh, how can anyone commit a cri and not leave any evidence. And that creature we found... just what the heck was that? A mix between a tiger and wolf—ouch boss, what was that for."

One of the alphas spoke and I imdiately felt my attention shift toward them.

The more he talked, the more I realized that he was talking about the cri scene I had reported to the Luminous guild. But before the hunter could say more, Rhiner hit him to make him keep quiet.

’Looks like it was my fault they ended up spending their whole night away... not that I feel any regret in that matter.’

I pretended I was not listening as I picked up the dishes and took them inside to wash. While I was doing this, one of the younger hunters decided to call out to .

"Hey, you seem like a level-headed person. Do you want to participate in the hunter’s championship on our boss’s team? You might not win but you will likely get far enough to earn a lot of money."

The hunter asked and I looked at him, only to see Rhiner go red-faced and smack the man who asked this question.

"Don’t be ridiculous and ask this question. Kyle, you don’t have to take my subordinate seriously. The competition is too dangerous to make you participate. Although, if you truly want to, I won’t say no either."

Rhiner told

and he almost sounded hopeful while speaking.
