Chapter 174: Ch 174: Another Loss- Part 4

’Who... are you?’

I looked at the shadow in front of

that had just taken over my body to help

out. Whatever power this shadow had used was unlike anything I had ever seen before.

The high priest had been taken out within seconds, and the other side did not even get to struggle before it all happened.

And at that mont, a silly thought entered my mind.

’Fuck—! I wouldn’t have lost half the people I did if I knew how to use this power.’

I wanted to hold on to that power and feeling a little more, but it slowly left

feeling drained. My body could no longer take the burden of continuously using this power anymore, and I looked toward the disappearing body.

Kuro was... gone. I could instinctively feel this in my heart. He was never going to return.

But by taking care of the high priest that absorbed Kuro, I was making sure Kuro was never able to return. That was the least I could do about this situation.

’Kuro... I will rember you—’

The dungeon was collapsing around , and I knew that the right thing to do would be to get out of here. But my feet refused to move.

Even as I tried to take a step forward, my body threatened to break down, and the pain I felt all over made my vision blur.

"Ace—! Where are you—? Can you hear ?"

Soone called out to

even as I lost consciousness. The last thing I recalled was the sense of the world fading around

before I knew nothing anymore.

A pair of soft but strong arms pulled

toward himself, and I relaxed.

...

The next ti I woke up, I was in a hospital bed, and my body had been treated. I was bandaged up, and there was a familiar presence sitting beside .

For a second, the feeling of an alpha beside

made my heart leap in my throat. It felt like Theo was back with , and I wanted to talk to him.

But when I truly pulled myself up a little, I saw that it was only Rhiner who was sitting beside ... not that it was a bad thing per se.

But still, a part of

could not help but feel sad about it.

Rhiner opened his eyes as soon as he noticed that I was awake, and he stood up to head out.

"I-I will call for a doctor. Don’t move... we need to get you checked up."

He told

as he quickly got out and then ca back. A doctor followed Rhiner, and the doctor sweated as he ca to check up on .

The doctor wiped his sweat as he walked closer to

to take a look at my complexion.

"Hmm, let

see. You seem to be recovering just fine. Do you feel any pain? Is your head spinning? Do you want to cough?"

The doctor asked

rapidly as he jotted down notes after notes. He seed to not want to be here, and I understood his condition.

Rhiner was looming behind the doctor like a shadow, forcing him to be here and do his job. The beta doctor must have been feeling the pressure because of Rhiner.

I felt sorry for the doctor and decided to answer him quickly.

"I feel fine now. I don’t think I am injured or anything. There is no extra pain anywhere either."

The doctor looked relieved to hear this... or perhaps, just to know that I was fine and that he did not have to be there anymore.

"T-That’s good. It seems like you are recovering just fine... anyway, I should get going now. I have more tasks to do. Please call

if you need ."

Before I knew it, the doctor dashed out of the room. Rhiner let out a frustrated sigh as he watched the doctor make a run for it.

Rhiner looked frustrated as he watched the doctor make a run for it. He looked like he was about to make a run for it and catch the doctor before I stopped him.

"There is no need to go after the doctor. I feel fine. It would only cause more confusion if you bring the doctor back now."

I told Rhiner, and he looked frustrated before he settled down beside . He still looked restless as he tried to control himself, and I decided to ask him what was wrong.

"You can share with

what’s wrong. You don’t have to be this restless, you know."

I told the man as I placed a hand on his shoulder. Rhiner pulled back, almost as if he had been electrocuted, and gave

a startled look.

"T-That’s not what... I was just scared that you wouldn’t wake up. It has been two days since you fell asleep. I... I should inform others of what happened."

Rhiner tried to stand up, but he had been sitting for so long that his legs refused to comply. I would have found the situation funny, but for so reason, I could not force myself to laugh about it.

Sothing just... felt off about the situation.

"Hey, what happened to the people in that dungeon with us? Where are they? Are they alright?"

I asked, and Rhiner flinched. I braced myself for the worst news possible, and my heart skipped a beat as Rhiner opened his mouth.

"Those people... most of them survived and are back here. However, just as you collapsed, they all did as well. We have no idea when they will wake up— hey! Stop trying to get up. You are in no condition to be moving around."

Rhiner told , but I pretended not to hear him as I forced myself to stand. I needed to see those people for myself to make sure they were alive and sohow doing well.

Even if my body threatened to break, I needed to get going and head to my goal.

"Ace, calm down. They are not dead... fine, at least allow

to help you out."
