Chapter 167: Ch 167: This is goodbye- Part 2

The dungeon around

was eroding in real ti. I knew that I might need to stop it. But all I wanted to do was reach out toward Theo and stop him.

My wish felt incredibly selfish, but for the first ti in my life, I wanted sothing that was for myself and not for others.

The alpha was walking toward the center of the dungeon, and he had a happy smile on his face.

"Don’t worry, Kyle. If you think you cannot bear the burden of what’s happening, then think of this as a dream and nothing else. Just... close your eyes and let the ti pass. I promise you will be just fine. For now, this is the end."

Theo told

as he kept walking. I could not understand why he was going away. He had no reason to do this to .

My heart felt a little sick. I almost felt like I was going to throw up due to my nervousness. But of course, none of it reached Theo.

"Theo, co back-! We can talk about it. Whatever is troubling you... we can resolve it by simply talking. There is no need for you to go this far..."

I reminded Theo, and he let out a chuckle.

"No need? Well, you sure say that there is no need, but I don’t agree. I do think there is a need. But we can talk about all that later, right?"

He told

with a sad smile on his face. And just like that, Theo disappeared from around , and I was left all alone.

I did not want to think or even move. I felt frozen in ti, like I was a prisoner whose strings were cut. The world around

was starting to fade and rge. The dungeon was beginning to break. Even the central core was pulsing.

"What... did you do? Why did you co here for? Just what... are you trying to accomplish?"

I asked Theo, but of course, there was no answer. The alpha who could answer

was already gone, and only a ss remained in his place.

From inside the dungeon, two familiar signatures of energy headed toward

faster than I expected.

Rhiner and Kuro were by my side before I even knew it, and Rhiner looked especially worried about .

"Ace-! Are you alright? You disappeared with that unknown person, and now you are all alone and a dungeon break is happening. Do you know what happened?"

He asked as he looked around. But among the falling rubble, I alone stood in the middle with no answer to give him.

Kuro noticed this and pushed himself forward to appear more important.

"That’s not important right now. I have more news to share. This dungeon has started to collapse, and all the energy in this dungeon has started to break the high priest free from his prison. But unlike normal high priests, this one has not chosen a host or consciousness yet. We might be up against an empty shell here."

Kuro told us as he looked up at the blank place where the core was pulsing. The massive energy pushed back at us, but we had nowhere to back down.

I felt like I only understood half of what Kuro told . I felt numb to what was happening.

Logically, I knew that I should not react that strongly to Theo and his disappearance. But I could not help myself. I was just the kind of person who was worried about such things.

Kuro eventually got annoyed with

and decided to do sothing about my attitude. He grabbed my shirt and dragged

to look at him.

"Stop moping around and look at . We do not have ti for you to be moping around like this. Do you understand? You want answers, right? Then let’s get out of here alive first."

Kuro reminded , and I finally snapped out of my daze and gave him a look of concern. But Kuro just looked away.

And that was how I knew that Kuro knew what was going on. He had tried to hide the truth from

all this ti, but now he was being serious.

"You... knew, right? About Theo and what was going on with him. But you never told ... why?"

I asked Kuro, and he flinched before he looked away. He looked guilty but also resolute.

"My... master’s orders were firm, and I did not want to defy them. There is no need for you to think anymore about it anyway. What has happened cannot be undone. For now, let’s focus on the present."

Kuro told , and I felt vindicated but also sad that things had co down to this.

Ever since the beginning, I knew that Kuro was with

for his own purpose. But I ignored this because I did not want to doubt him and his loyalty.

But now I knew that it was all because Kuro was following orders and nothing else.

’Heh-! I don’t even feel annoyed now. I just feel... cold hearing this. What a ss I am.’

I forced myself to stand up and then look at the giant monster that was pulsing around us. People were starting to run away from the city, terrified, and among this ss, I beca the first one to turn toward the city.

"Let’s take care of the monster first, and then we can think about what to do. For now, I am going to try and stop him."

I told the other two as I powered up my familiars. The small jellyfish moved toward the dungeon to try and guide the people out.

And they were doing a great job until they got a little too close, and the power of the entity governing this place got to them and made the dungeon unstable.

I almost collapsed on my feet, and if not for Kuro and Rhiner, I would have lost my consciousness as well.

"Hey, are you alright? Looks like this burden is too heavy for you to bear alone."
