Chapter 148: Ch 148: Birth of a King- Part 2

It was funny how most people resorted to threatening when they did not get what they wanted from . In that regard, Kana was not any different.

However, I was not concerned about his words.

"I’ll keep your warning in mind for the future."

I told him as I walked away from him, and that caused Kana to panic.

"No wait—! I did not an to—"

I refused to turn around. And soon, I was on the streets once more with nowhere else to go but forward.

"Are you sure it’s safe out here? Won’t it be safer in that establishnt?"

Kuro asked , still in his cat form. He looked relaxed on the outside, but he kept looking around for any hints of danger.

I admired his efforts to help

out, but I shook my head at his advice.

"Sure, I could have hidden myself for now. But how long do you think that would be viable? I am sure this place wants

to choose its next ruler, so it won’t stay quiet for long. The sooner I find sowhere safe, the better..."

I told Kuro, and that was the real reason as to why I chose to leave the serving establishnt.

My instincts told

that the calm before the storm would not last long. So before things got bad, it was best to get out of the line of fire and find a safe space.

Sigh

"Fine, I won’t argue with you over this. I am sure you know better than

what you are doing here. So, what’s the plan now?"

Kuro asked, and I paused. I had not... thought about things this far yet. But I had a feeling that if I told Kuro this, he wouldn’t be happy.

Usually, I was not soone who cared about people’s feelings. But Kuro had found a way to get to

by now, and I was a little hesitant to disappoint him.

"For so reason, I am not actually so worried about anything. For now, let’s head toward the forest and away from these people. And also..."

As soon as I spoke, there was a spark in the sky before static made the sky turn red.

Everyone around

looked up, but the lack of surprise ant that these people expected such a thing to happen.

A screen appeared in the sky with a single ssage that made my insides go cold.

[The next king has been chosen. The one with the mark of the king has started their journey. Good luck in finding them.]

The ssage was clear, but it put

at a heavy disadvantage.

Not only that, but as soon as that ssage appeared, the glow on my hand started to shine even brighter.

"The mark of the king is here? Where?"

"L-Look at that light!"

"The marked king is here! Hurry—! Catch him before it’s too late!"

People around

yelled as they pointed at . I had to curse under my breath as I watched them close in on .

’Fuck—! No wonder I was having such a bad feeling. I don’t think my power would work on such a wide range of people.’

I looked around, and there were around two dozen or so people around . And all of them had only one purpose in mind—to catch

here.

"Kuro, hold on tight. We are getting out of here."

I told the demon as I picked him up before I used my powers to make a high jump. I sent one of my jellyfish familiars to cause a small explosion that obstructed everyone’s line of sight.

"W-Where did they go? Hurry up and find them—!"

Everyone panicked at the fact that I had disappeared, and I quickly slapped a hand on my mark to calm it down.

The mark struggled against my will, not wanting to go silent. But it ultimately did go silent, and I sighed in relief.

"What a disaster. Are you alright, human? Did you lose control of your powers or sothing?"

Kuro asked as I let him down and stretched his legs. He looked concerned but amused at the sa ti.

I felt my eyes twitch at his relaxed posture, and I knew that he was getting a little too much amusent out of my suffering.

"It is not funny. As for what happened... I had no idea. I thought I had control over this mark, but it seems like it has its own will as well. Sothing like what happened can happen again very easily. So for now, I need to go to a safe place."

By that, I ant that I needed to get to the top of the highest building in this dungeon. That would not only give

an advantage but also allow

to be out of everyone’s sight.

And there was only one building in this whole dungeon that could give

what I wanted—the central building that watched over it all.

Once my mark cald down fully, I pushed myself to move so that I could go and check up on this dungeon.

I had a feeling that this was the only city in the dungeon, but I wanted to see what lay beyond this city to see if I could earn so advantage.

"Let’s go, Kuro. We do not have much ti on our hands. I have no idea when I would get fucked over again."

I told Kuro as I pushed myself back to my feet. But as I moved my foot, I suddenly could not help but think that it felt a little heavy at that mont.

Maybe it was just my imagination, but I felt like it was a little harder for

to move my body. Kuro paused as well and gave

a weird look.

"Hey, Kyle, you sll funny. Are you sure you are alright?"

He asked, and I paused as well. But no matter how much I thought about it, I could not figure out what was wrong with .
