"How about sharpening so bamboo stakes and burying them at the bottom? If a bear falls in, it’ll get impaled. I saw this tactic used in Vietnam during the war specifically to target the lower body,"

"God, bamboo stakes? We’re almost at the Arctic Circle, where are you going to find bamboo? You must be half-asleep upstairs."

Despite the often unhelpful suggestions and jeers from his followers, they had inspired Lin Yang.

He thought briefly and said, "This depth is indeed a bit risky, but I can still try a different approach.

What do you guys think if I poured water into the bottom, maintaining a certain water level? What would happen if a bear fell into it?

As for luring the bear to the pit, that’s simple—I can just use fresh fish as bait, just place it partway down the well. I’ll also sprinkle so fish blood and guts around; I can’t believe it wouldn’t be fooled."

Once he shared this idea, the group stopped with their critiques.

This was a simple version of a Water Prison; the ancients had already offered this advice.

Falling into it, aside from the cold, would also prevent the bear from finding leverage, dramatically increasing the difficulty it would have climbing out.

"Solid plan, this could work! Let’s do it! As long as there are no safety issues for us, if it fails, we can always improve it. If that still doesn’t work, we can keep expanding the trap and use it as a secondary storage site."

"Upvote. Bro, you’re aweso. You thought of all this? I can almost see the bear waving to you."

"Just not sure about the seepage situation? We also don’t have a good container for fetching water; if seepage is severe, the effectiveness could be drastically reduced."

"The soil here is quite sticky, especially at the very bottom compared to the surface. If you pack it down firmly, there shouldn’t be a big problem."

Lin Yang stepped down into the trap using a makeshift ladder, compacted the soil as best as he could, and then, without even stopping for dinner, started on a massive water-filling task.

With a field pot and two ceramic jars, he went back and forth between the lake and the trap for over two hours, filling the bottom of the trap with at least forty centiters of water.

Lin Yang’s judgnt was once again proven right; the seepage below was less severe than expected, and it should hold for a short ti.

After all the hustle, he finally settled down, pulled out a fresh fish he had caught earlier, and set up a periter around the trap, ultimately skewering most of the fish on a branch and leaning it above the water surface at the bottom of the pit.

"Alright, all set! Tonight we’ll see the results. If sothing unexpected happens, I’ll start the stream. For those who want to watch, make sure you’ve set up special alerts ahead of ti. After working all day, I’m exhausted. I’m going to make so food, fill my stomach, and tonight, it’s versus this bear."

After the update, Lin Yang turned off the live stream for the mont.

Half a rabbit plus a whole fish, his appetite had surged due to his heavy physical efforts. After eating his fill, he rested a little while longer, then continued with his final preparations.

The pit was deep, and if a bear fell into it, it was impossible for him to jump in and wrestle it; therefore, Lin Yang still needed a handy weapon.

He had a few options; one was rocks, which he could throw down to injure the bear, but that might also pile up at the bottom, giving the bear a chance to climb out.

After briefly considering this, Lin Yang discarded the idea and turned his attention to a Swiss Army knife.

Although this multi-function knife was not known for its lethal capabilities, its main blade was sharp, twelve centiters long, very sharp, expensive, and equipped with a blood groove. He had been using it recently to clean fish and rabbits.

Lin Yang judged that if used well, this weapon could definitely inflict damage on the bear.

So, he found a pine pole about two ters long and as thick as a child’s waist. He trimd the end, then used PE line to securely tie the knife to the pole.

Thus, a Swiss Army knife was temporarily transford into a spear—an ideal implent for stabbing and bleeding the bear when it was in the trap.
