Just as Lin Yang was irretrievably imrsed in all the good news, the phone rang.
He picked up the phone and glanced at the caller ID, finding an international dialing prefix before the number, these kinds of calls were mostly tricks played by scamrs, and Lin Yang didn’t even bother to answer before hanging up.
However, the other party seed quite persistent; they called again shortly after being hung up on, only to be disconnected by Lin Yang once more.
Hey, damn it, talk about persistence, you damn scamr.
Lin Yang muttered to himself and directly blacklisted the strange number.
Finally, the world was quiet again.
No more than a few minutes later Lin Yang’s phone rang again, but this ti it was different, it was Lu Cheng calling.
"Hello, Brother Cheng, any instructions?" Lin Yang answered the phone very politely.
"Brother Lin Yang, my unit has managed to get you on the guest invitation list for ’Monsters of the River.’ Soone from there will contact you soon to coordinate with you, so keep an eye out, it’s a rare opportunity. I had to really push the higher-ups for this," Lu Cheng spoke with a very steady tone.
"What? A guest on ’Monsters of the River’? Is it to go fishing sowhere with that foreign ’Monsters of the River’ show?"
Lin Yang was sowhat familiar with "Monsters of the River."
It was a popular TV show on the US Animal Planet channel, and its host, Jeremy, was a fishing enthusiast and a biologist.
The show often went to dark, damp, or ancient water bodies to unravel underwater life, and it was also known for decoding the legendary locations of "water monsters," which led to soaring ratings.
If truth be told, the global fishing docuntary Lin Yang was currently filming was similar in nature.
"Is there a fishing trip? Count in."
"I’ve already had soone prepare the relevant materials to send to your QQ email. You can take a look. There will be transoceanic calls coming for you soon, make sure not to miss them!"
"Got it, I’ll take a look. Do I still have enough ti to prepare?"
"You have less than half a month left. Once there, you’ll need to participate in quarantine and other procedures, so you’ve got at most one week to prepare."
"Great, I got it!"
After hanging up, Lin Yang opened his email to search for the ssage.
Sure enough, there was an email with an attachnt waiting for him.
He read through it patiently and had a basic judgnt in mind.
The river that "Monsters of the River" was going to explore this ti was the Congo River, which was also one of Lin Yang’s targeted destinations.
The Congo River, also known as the Zaier River, is located in central and western Africa, with a total length of about 4,640 kiloters. Its basin covers approximately 3.7 million square kiloters, making it the second-longest river in Africa, only shorter than the Nile River.
The Congo River Basin has the world’s second-largest tropical rainforest after the Amazon Rainforest in South Arica, covering an area of 3.7 million square kiloters. This accounts for 70% of the total area of Africa’s tropical rainforests and 25% of the total area of the world’s tropical rainforests, with similarly rich biological resources.
In terms of volu, the water flow of the Congo River is second only to the Amazon River, making it the second-largest river in the world. However, the Congo River is the deepest river in the world, with the deepest spots reaching 250 ters.
Seeing his upcoming destination, Lin Yang’s heart also started to look forward to it.
Not only would he be fishing in the Congo River this ti, but he would also be doing it alongside the renowned international figure Jeremy, which promised to make this fishing adventure particularly interesting.
A week later, having made all necessary preparations, Lin Yang and Yue’er stepped onto the soil of Africa.
Upon arriving at the agreed-upon location,
at first glance, the place they ca to resembled a small island, sowhat barren, but with quite a bit of infrastructure, including a cluster of buildings and a pier with several boats docked.
This place didn’t look so much like a small island as it did a small town.
"Brother Yang, is it here? Why isn’t there anyone to greet us?"
Lin Yang: "Haha, maybe they’re not here yet. Let’s go et our contact."
It wasn’t too hard to locate them as they had already spoken on the phone with Jeremy after getting off the airplane.
They hadn’t walked far when they saw the silver-haired Jeremy waiting for them on the pier.
"Hey, Lin!"
Seeing Lin Yang from afar, Jeremy waved and greeted him.
Although it was their first face-to-face eting in real life, due to various connections, they were both already well-acquainted with each other and didn’t feel like strangers at all.
"Haha, Jeremy, sorry to keep you waiting."
Lin Yang greeted him with a smile as well.
As he approached, Jeremy gave him a big hug, "Hey, Lin, I was starting to think you wouldn’t co."
Lin Yang laughed, "How could I not? Missing an adventure with a legend like you? I wouldn’t pass up such an opportunity."
Jeremy, "Haha, you people from the East are as humble as ever. Well then, let’s go. Co with for now. We’ll prepare a bit more today and set out first thing tomorrow morning."
Having said that, Jeremy led Lin Yang away from the dock.
Jeremy was Arican and spoke English, which Lin Yang and Yue’er could understand roughly, so they didn’t have a translator this ti. However, Jeremy’s crew did have local translators available.
Upon arriving at the accommodations prepared by the other crew, Lin Yang chose a room, settled in with his things, and rested.
....
It was just beginning to dawn the next day.
Lin Yang was still asleep when a series of urgent knocks awoke him.
He got up, opened the door, and saw Jeremy looking at him anxiously.
"What’s up, Jeremy? Are we setting off so early?"
Because last night, they had agreed to depart early in the morning, but setting off this early seed a bit much.
Lin Yang glanced at his watch. It was not even five in the morning.
Jeremy, who had co in, shook his head in response to his question, "Oh, it’s not about setting off, Lin. Hurry up and co with ."
"Co with you?"
Lin Yang was taken aback and asked, "Uh, Jeremy, what’s happened?"
Still looking anxious, Jeremy waved his hands frantically, "It’s too complicated to explain right now. Just co with , and you’ll see what I an."
Seeing this, Lin Yang could only shrug his shoulders, called over Yue’er, and followed Jeremy.
Even though the island wasn’t very large, there were quite a few native inhabitants. The economy here was relatively backwards, and makeshift houses built from local materials could be seen everywhere.
In no ti at all, the three of them arrived in front of a small wooden house.
By this ti, a crowd of villagers had already gathered in front of the door.
"We’re here, it’s this one."
Seeing the crowd, Jeremy pulled Lin Yang into it.
The mont he squeezed into the crowd, he caught a strong sll of blood.
At first glance, he saw a half-grown calf lying on the ground in the center of the crowd. The calf seed to have just died, and its abdon had a huge gash that was jagged and still oozing blood.
The scent of blood Lin Yang had just slled was coming from there.
"What’s this?"
Had Jeremy brought him all this way just to see this?
"Hey, Lin, see that? Such a big gash, this has to be the work of a big creature!" Jeremy said excitedly, looking at the cut on the calf.
"A big creature?"
The phrase sparked a realization in Lin Yang’s mind.
And he quickly found the answer in the murmurings of the crowd around him. He saw an old man with brown skin gesticulating wildly to the villagers around him.
However, Lin Yang didn’t understand the local indigenous language, so he turned to Jeremy.
For this expedition, Jeremy had hired a local young man who had been to school to act as his interpreter.
Just then, the interpreter was there, and seeing Lin Yang’s puzzled look, Jeremy instructed the young translator to start explaining.
