He was extrely proud of his physical fitness and never considered that Lin Yang, who was skinnier and shorter, could pull up the fish so effortlessly, especially since the fish looked slightly bigger than the one he had just caught.
Lin Yang scoffed dismissively, "Do all you Aricans like to deceive yourselves like this, mocking when you win and making excuses when you lose? The judge will co over soon. I’ll wait right here. If you have suspicions, feel free to report them."
"That Arican is too dishonest, can’t accept defeat."
"Exactly, he changes faces faster than flipping a book. He was boasting earlier, and now he’s accusing the host of cheating. The gear the host used was inspected by the judges before the competition and was confird to have no issues."
Soon, the rumbling sound of a boat engine rose in the distance, and a referee boat painted in white and blue approached them.
"Was it your boat that called for the judges?" a middle-aged white referee shouted to Lin Yang and his team from dozens of ters away.
The captain nodded, "The fish is over here."
Quickly, the referee brought his boat close to their fishing vessel and stopped on the other side.
The giant grouper, now under control on the water’s surface after Lin Yang’s nearly brute handling, had cald down considerably and was bobbing up and down, its exaggerated appearance coupled with its toad-like skin, looking sowhat frightening.
Under U.S. law, giant groupers normally are not allowed to be pulled onto the boat. For the purpose of recording asurents, the referees really had to strive, as a crew mber wearing a life jacket dove into the water with a asuring tape to asure the fish’s length.
Soon, the fish was asured. Its length t the competition’s requirents.
After the length asurent was done, the crew mber took out a small blue syringe-like device and tagged the fish near the dorsal fin, leaving an unknown object in the fish before helping Lin Yang unhook and release it.
"Dear referee, I just witnessed the entire process of him pulling the fish up to the surface. His strength far exceeds that of an average adult. I suspect his gear has so sort of force-assisting device and request verification," Gao Bai began voicing his suspicions to the referee, a bit belatedly.
The white referee looked at him, smiled, and shook his head, "This ’force-enhancing’ device was registered before the competition. I was the validating referee at that ti and can confirm there are no issues. If you have any objections to my explanation, you may appeal to the competition arbitration committee. Now, I declare that angler number 18, Lin Yang, has caught a giant grouper that ets the standard with a length of 213cm. Good luck."
Leaving a short notice, the referee boat departed. Lin Yang rubbed his slightly sore arm, looking mockingly at Gao Bai who had just reported him in person.
"How about that, did you understand what the referee just said? If you have any objections, you can appeal to the arbitration committee. I’ve been streaming the whole process live, and there are caras recording everything onboard. If you want, I can send you a copy of the whole recording. Also, my compatriots said you looked embarrassingly envious just now."
"You...." Gao Bai’s face turned ugly, unable to maintain his composure.
"I won’t waste my ti on you anymore. We’re going to continue fishing, and you better keep up. Weren’t you boasting quite a lot before the competition? Be careful not to let easily surpass you." Throwing out a seemingly polite but actually disdainful remark, Lin Yang continued fishing.
"Hahaha, that Arican made a fool of himself."
"Host, what was that small blue syringe the worker was holding when asuring the fish underwater?"
"I noticed that too, it looked like he marked the fish’s back, right?"
Lin Yang also shook his head, "I don’t know what that thing was, maybe the captain can answer that, Captain, what was that blue syringe about?"
The captain replied, "That is a microcurrent tracking device provided by the Ocean Life Research Organization, used to monitor changes and movents in the giant grouper population. Many fish have similar devices. This fishing competition must have received so sponsorship or assistance from the research organization."
Lin Yang nodded, "Got it, it’s an electronic tag for marking identity and tracking location."
"Right."
.....
A few kiloters away on shore in a marine biology research vehicle, a new blue dot on the hydrographic map slowly lit up, sending out waves of energy ripples. This new dot was the signal from the device just activated on the fish.
"Hey, Su Li, your idea was brilliant. So far, two giant groupers have been tagged and activated. Within a certain range, we can now track their movents," a thirty-sothing man with glasses said cheerfully while looking at the map.
Next to him, a young white woman in her early twenties nad Su Li, with long golden hair and a few faint freckles on her face, was smiling broadly at her research group leader.
Su Li nodded, "This thod of electronic marking is already being used by many organizations. We are just starting to apply it. I believe that by the end of this competition, we will have gathered information from at least ten new tags. If we’re lucky and soone catches a significantly oversized one, we might even use up our research quota approved for this competition, which would greatly enrich our first-hand data on these giant groupers and be very helpful for the professor’s academic paper."
