It must have been the other good fishing spots the guide ntioned yesterday, though I didn’t know how good they were.
"Let tell you, I don’t bring just anyone here easily; there are often big Golden Spearfish around here!"
After reaching a sea area quite far from the coast, the captain slowed down the fishing boat, observing the surrounding sea conditions while chatting with everyone.
Soon, the captain seed to have spotted sothing, took a sharp turn with the fishing boat, continued forward for a distance, and then stopped.
"This is it! Look at the fishfinder, there’s definitely a big one down there!"
The captain pointed confidently at the dense red dots on the screen.
The screen showed dense red dots, large and small, presumably the larger ones were the "big guys" the captain was talking about.
As for what species the fish below were, tossing a few rods would reveal that.
Now that it had been determined there were giants below, the crew didn’t wait for the captain to anchor before they began preparing their fishing gear to start fishing.
Lin Yang still used the jerk jigging technique; he couldn’t help it—he had plenty of energy.
Even if he kept jerking all day long, it probably wouldn’t be a problem, and according to the fishfinder, most of the fish in this area were at the bottom, making artificial bait the ideal choice for jerk jigging.
Though Golden Spearfish are pelagic fish that usually swim in mid to upper layers, they sotis venture to the bottom too.
Like humans, who normally live on land but also go into the water sotis.
So, it was perfectly normal for Golden Spearfish to appear in the bottom waters.
Of course, these "big guys" below could also be other large creatures, and Lin Yang and the others would have to fish them out to find out.
As for the others, so used jerk jigging, so hooked small fish, so used squid, and so even used Antarctic shrimp.
Although a hook was only baited with a few small Antarctic shrimps, using bait cages ant there was still a good chance of catching big fish.
Since there were fish below, Lin Yang didn’t waste his energy casting far away; instead, he switched to a bigger jig, flipped the reel switch open, and dropped the jig near the boat. Once it hit the bottom, he began his jerk jigging.
With many big ones below, he again activated various buffs. With the big-fish buff, the chances of securing a fish increased significantly.
After pulling the jig just off the bottom, Lin Yang started jerking the fishing rod, starting with a gentle tease to get the jig in the water moving, then gradually increasing the jerking amplitude to attract the fish’s attack.
With buffs activated, even though he was using a jig, the bait still had an enhanced fish-attracting effect. Soon, there was a bite signal on the fishing rod.
"Shoop~"
Fish on.
Ten minutes later.
"Successfully caught one High Body Bream...."
A small Red Seabream, quite a letdown!
However, it’s great for sashimi, and the size was appropriate, so Lin Yang didn’t release it back to the sea, instead keeping it for an added al at noon.
After hesitating for a while, he cast the jig back into the water.
Twenty minutes later.
"Successfully caught a Bluefin Gold Spearfish...."
A small Bluefin Tuna!
Lin Yang effortlessly pulled it up by himself; this Bluefin Tuna was indeed quite small, probably just a few dozen pounds, and it was questionable if it was weaned yet.
This catch was neither a loss nor a gain, but it bolstered his confidence to continue fishing.
With such a small Bluefin present, there must be bigger ones guarding it nearby? And there were a lot of big red dots below, after all.
He cast again, continuing his tireless jerk jigging.
While he managed to catch two fish in succession, the others weren’t idle either; their rods began to show signs of life, bustling with activity.
Having caught only small fish both tis, Lin Yang didn’t drop the jig near the boat this ti but aid slightly before casting it with a swish.
This ti the rod responded differently; before the jig had a chance to sink, the reel suddenly began spinning faster, as if sothing at the other end of the line was vigorously pulling.
Fish on!
This wasn’t his first encounter with fish biting before the jig could sink, and he handled it deftly, quickly turning the reel handle. After a snap, the brake locked automatically, and Lin Yang jerked the rod upwards sharply.
"Shoop!"
The rod imdiately bent.
"Squeak, squeak, squeak~"
The massive drag sound, under the pulling of the fish in the sea, unexpectedly issued squeaking drag warning sounds.
This fish seed quite sizable!
The fish burst with energy right after the bite, and despite the powerful capabilities of his fishing gear with the reel’s drag locked tight, the line continued to feed out.
Regrettably, the line wasn’t unraveling rapidly, and Lin Yang estimated he wouldn’t even need to hold onto the spool; the fish likely wouldn’t last long.
Sure enough, about three or four minutes after firmly grasping his rod, the reel stopped spinning, and the squeaking of the drag also ceased.
The fish’s first surge had passed.
Seizing the mont while the fish rested, Lin Yang started lifting the rod, then took the opportunity to reel in the line.
