You can take a rod and bait, find any spot you like to fish, and you’re free to change fishing spots.
Of course, there are two prerequisites for the roving angling rules in the competition. First, you’re not allowed to occupy a fishing spot under the pretense of baiting it if you’re not actually fishing there.
That is, even if you’ve baited the area, as long as you’re not fishing there, anyone else can co and fish there without any claims of reserving the spot with baited area.
Second, you’re not allowed to fish within three ters of soone else’s spot.
If soone is fishing at a location and you like the spot too, you can fish close by, but you can’t be closer than three ters.
This rule is to prevent people from causing trouble and affecting other anglers.
With the rules set, the competition officially started!
The anglers from various teams were not just sitting quietly at their spots this ti; instead, most of them were walking back and forth along the lakeside, searching for the right fishing points.
And most of these anglers searching for spots were aiming to find where the Lugu Lake Split Belly Fish were.
As a fish worth 10 points and, according to the show’s organizers, not so uncommon in Lugu Lake, no team aiming for a high score would give up on it.
Seeing the anglers walking up and down the lakeside, the audience couldn’t help but be amused.
"Hahaha, roving fishing is quite interesting. A group of people go back and forth along the lake with eyes shining, looking for spots. It’s like they’re cavorting in the wild."
"They are indeed cavorting, just with fishing rods as their tools. It’s quite an interesting competition, being able to see firsthand how these masters use their experience and knowledge to locate their target fish."
"Most of them are probably aiming for Split Belly Fish, right?"
"Of course, who would go through the trouble if not for the highest scoring fish? Why not just bait a spot and keep fishing continuously, isn’t it better?"
"Although there are quite a few Split Belly Fish in Lugu Lake, they’re not so easy to catch. This competition will surely bring joy to so and sorrow to others."
"Look, there’s Master Lin in the cara view; he seems to have found a place to cast his line!"
The audience all looked, and indeed, Lin Yang, facing the cara, had started casting.
However, when everyone took a clear look at his thod, they were surprised to find that he didn’t have a float on his line!
"What’s this, jigging the rod tip?"
"Doesn’t look like it, look how he keeps pulling his rod, jigging involves keeping the rod still and suspended in flowing water to watch for the rod tip movents easily. Who ever does jigging by continuously pulling the rod?"
"So what technique is he using? It looks so strange. There’s no float, and apart from jigging and using a sea rod, I’ve never heard of such a fishing thod."
Amidst the audience’s discussions, Lin Yang held his fishing rod, cast it out, and then slowly pulled it back in.
During this process, he controlled the force to keep the hook always off the bottom, yet not too far from the seabed, moving close to the bottom.
The bait on the hook was a special kind of small insect, sowhat like a red worm but not actually one – it was another type of small insect commonly found by the water.
Lin Yang couldn’t na this insect; he just noticed that there were a lot of them in the grass by the lake, so he made a guess.
These insects, being near the water and seemingly clumsy, probably fell into the water often, becoming food for fish.
Therefore, the carnivorous fish in Lugu Lake must be accustod to eating these insects!
And Lin Yang’s target, the Lugu Lake Split Belly Fish, was a species that fed on small insects – so these insects were definitely on the Split Belly Fish’s nu.
Moreover, he knew that the Lugu Lake Split Belly Fish were a timid species by nature.
To catch these fish, unfamiliar baits in the water, no matter how good they slled, might be avoided by the cautious Split Belly Fish, leading to no bites.
But using these familiar small insects for bait could lower their guard and make them confidently strike.
Additionally, Lin Yang’s reason for removing the float and continually dragging the rod and bait was because he had figured out the Split Belly Fish’s habits.
They liked to swim near the bottom of the lake, close to stones in fast-flowing water – a behavior similar to so Sea Bass and Gu fish, so the best thod to catch these kinds of fish was using a lure rod; but the competition explicitly prohibited the use of lures.
So the thod Lin Yang was now adopting was akin to using a hand rod as a lure rod for fishing.
Including the fly fishing he had just been introduced to yesterday, these techniques involved treating the bait like insects or flies, simulating their movent when they hit the water, thereby tempting the fish below to bite.
Lin Yang’s approach for the day was entirely based on targeting the habits of the Split Belly Fish, using the best possible fishing thod.
The bait for angling was a common, inconspicuous insect found on the spot, and the fishing thod was dragging the bait along the bottom – a technique similar to lure fishing which could be called dragging or Beach Brushing Fishing!
Because this thod looked like using the bait to brush back and forth over a river beach, although Lin Yang’s chosen spot was not a river beach but a shallow beach at the lake’s entrance.
Adopting such a comprehensive fishing thod was inspired by his experience with fly fishing from the previous two days, after which he had conducted in-depth research and thoughtful consideration. Most other anglers didn’t have such a deep understanding or know about this special fishing thod.
Therefore, they were all sowhat puzzled by Lin Yang’s actions, wondering what he was up to.
