Chapter 71: Chapter 71

Morning quickly fell upon the Blackwell castle and inside her bedroom, Alia lay wide awake. Her mind was full of different images of what Killian might look like as he was flying by her window. She stayed awake trying to get used to the fact that demons are real and they can fly.

"Why did I have to wake up and now I cannot fall back to sleep?" She regretted waking up earlier. She preferred never knowing about Killian’s ability to fly. "Can Cyrus fly too? If he could, he would have flown us out of danger the day my carriage was attacked. This is too much for

to handle," she concluded.

She saw why the existence of demons was kept a secret. It was too hard to fathom the more she thought about it and the more she realized just how dangerous the north was.

"What if there are others out there that are not demons but just as dangerous as them? What else is out there in the world?" Alia asked as if the answer would fall from the sky.

She contemplated going to Cyrus in the middle of the night to ask him questions but she did not want him to see her like this. Afraid and unable to sleep. He would try stopping her from marrying Killian but she could not do that. Her kingdom needed a truce with the north more than ever now she considered the possibility of other creatures also existing.

If they were ever to be attacked by other creatures, her people needed the help of demons.

"Still, why can my future husband fly?" Alia could not move on from this sole fact.

"Good morning, Alia," she heard Gina’s voice just as the door of her bedroom creaked open. "It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other and although our guards have been released it doesn’t seem like everything-What the hell!" She exclaid at the sight of Alia on the bed. "Are you dead?"

"Don’t let Cyrus co in-"

"What’s the matter?" Cyrus stord into the room looking for any sign of danger.

"Get out!" Gina imdiately began to push him out as Alia wanted. "It’s a girl’s problem. There," she closed the door. "Alia, didn’t you sleep last night? It certainly doesn’t look like it. I’ve heard gossip that you went off sowhere with your future husband. Is that why you can’t sleep? Did he do sothing to you?"

"Gina, calm down. He did nothing to . I just had a problem sleeping like any other night. I might need a redy from an outside doctor to help . Ugh, I’m so tired but there’s much to do today," Alia touched her aching head. Her eyes felt heavy but she had no more ti to try falling asleep. "Can you bring sothing to knock the sleep out of ? I can’t go around looking tired today."

"I don’t think there’s anything strong enough to fix the ss on your bed but I will try. Try to get so sleep while I go find sothing for you. You have a couple of hours until you are ant to leave the castle and I will try to bring breakfast to you. See you soon," Gina closed the door behind her. As she turned around, she walked straight into Cyrus’s chest. "What the."

"Why did you scream out? Do not lie to

that it was a girl’s problem. I heard you ntion getting sothing strong," said Cyrus.

’How on earth could he hear us when the door was closed?’ Gina wondered. She was starting to believe Cyrus was from out of this world. "I’m not telling you," Gina walked past him.

"She wasn’t able to sleep last night, was she?"

"I’m not saying anything," Gina covered her ears and sang a loud tune as she walked away. She was not going to get in the middle of Cyrus and Alia’s problem. If Alia did not want Cyrus to worry about her insomnia, Gina would be a good friend by hiding it.

"At least she’s reacting like a normal person. It would have been weird if she took all of this information calmly. Why can’t she just tell

she’s not handling it well? Is she afraid of ?" Cyrus frowned at thought of this. They were friends but he was still a demon. He didn’t want her to push herself to accept all of this quickly because of him.

Cyrus rembered hearing cases of humans going crazy after learning about the secrets of this world. He did not want Alia to lose her sanity. If only there was another human who knew about demons that could help Alia process all of this.

anwhile, inside her bedroom, Alia closed her eyes trying to fall asleep once again even if it was for a small mont.

"I can’t do this," her eyes fluttered open, The mont she closed her eyes, she kept seeing the figure that flew by her window. "Sleep is overrated anyway. Why do we even need to sleep? Sleep is nothing spectacular hahaha...I’m losing my mind," she gripped her hair.

"I need to speak with Killian again. Right now or I will not be able to think straight."

Alia sat up, slid off the bed, and walked toward the door to search for Killian. "Good morning," she greeted Cyrus right as she opened the door.

"Princess, where are you going?" Cyrus questioned, puzzled to see her walking out of her room in the sa dress she wore last night and her appearance was not quite what he was used to seeing.

"I’m going to see, "Alia halted her steps as she realized sothing. She swung her body around, almost tumbling over in the process. She scanned Cyrus’s appearance and found nothing out of the ordinary. "Have you been awake the entire night?"

"Yes. Is sothing wrong?"

"How do you look so well rested? What is your secret, Cyrus? Why haven’t you been sharing it with ?" Alia pointed her finger accusingly at him. "Tell

your secret."

"Whatever happened to we’re all allowed to have secrets?" Cyrus recalled her words from last night. "Please do not poke , princess."

"What’s the secret? Is it because you’re a," she paused and looked around to see if anyone was nearby. "Is it because of what you are?"

"Why did you look around to check for soone, saw no one but still did not say the word? Did you get any sleep at all? You behave strangely when you do not," said Cyrus.

He sighed, preparing to deal with a lot today. "Yes, it’s because of what I am. We’re typically night creatures and I can stay awake for as long as I like. There’s no secret solution I can offer you unless you beco a demon which is not going to happen."

"Oh, "Alia’s shoulders dropped. "That’s disappointing. I wish I could gain the skill to stay awake during the night and not wake up looking like a ss. I need to have a word with Killian right now."

"Like this? Princess, please be mindful of your appearance. You have never appeared in front of anyone with clothes you wore the previous day. Should I fetch Gina and let her know you wish to get ready?" Cyrus asked.

"Cyrus now is not the ti for

to be thinking about my appearance. I must worry about the state of my mind. I heard the two of you last night and I saw Killian flying. At least I think I did. I’m pretty sure I was wide awake. I do not want to feel like I am imagining things and I’m losing my mind. Please tell

that I saw sothing last night," she pleaded with Cyrus.

Cyrus was surprised to learn she was awake last night. He had not sensed that she was awake. Was he too occupied in chasing Killian away that he did not realize? Killian’s demon appearance was the last thing Alia needed to see when she was trying to adapt to the existence of demons. "You did. Did you see it clearly?"

"No," Alia covered her face with her hands. "I just saw a big shadow fly by, and it was shaped like a large man. I heard sothing land on my balcony and then your voices were heard. Why was he there last night? Was he just checking if I was safe or sothing else?"

Cyrus frowned and looked far behind Alia to where Killian was coming from. "You’ll have to ask him yourself. He’s coming this way. If you do not wish to speak with him right now, I will guard your door."

"No," Alia shook her head. "There’s no point in avoiding him when I can just talk to him and clear my mind."

"Good morning," Killian approached Alia with his hands behind his back. He noticed her clothes had not changed from last night, her eyes were red as if she had not slept and her hair was no longer neat. He wanted to assu this was just how he would be greeted by her every morning. No, wearing the sa clothes had to go. "I couldn’t help but hear you saw my shadow when I visited you last night. Can we have a private conversation in your bedroom?"

"Yes," Alia replied.
