Chapter 116: Chapter 116
"This one is already packed so you can take it down. Thank you."
Cyrus stepped to the side as northerners carried large boxes out of Alia’s room. During the ti that he had been gone her room had been picked apart and now it was starting to look like a regular room in the castle. "Princess," he called to get her attention.
"Cyrus! Where have you been?" Alia smiled at him and then went back to what was being taken out of her room.
After she returned to the castle with Killian, she continued the tedious job of packing her things. The only belongings she had not packed up were clothes to wear for the rest of her ti here and the books she found in her mother’s towers.
"I have been checking the people who were freed. I have not found her yet but I heard a new group was rescued today and you were there. There is a lot of gossip in the castle about it," said Cyrus.
"When is there no gossip in the castle? The castle is where you will find the most gossip. Besides, I’ve already heard so of it. The sweet innocent princess that we once knew is falling into her role as a wife for the war demon as she orders him to slay a well-known trader’s guards," Alia repeated the words in a sarcastic tone. "Quite a few of the gossip does not ntion the fact that people in captivity were freed."
"Gossip is never ant to put soone in a good light. It is not all bad. I was in town today and many are supporting the slave trade being over with. There was fear that one day they could all end up in it and others are rejoicing to have missing family mbers ho. Those who dislike your union with Killian are the ones who lost sons in the battle or are worried for your safety."
Alia looked back at Cyrus who once disliked the marriage. He most likely still did but was keeping quiet to respect her wishes. As the last of the boxes went out, Alia decided to take Cyrus to see if the woman he was looking for was rescued today.
No one was allowed to talk to the people they rescued from Luke’s ho yet as they were being fed, cleaned, and getting their information taken so they could return ho. She was told that so of them were not ready to speak yet because of what they endured.
"I can take you to see if she is in the group that ca in today. Killian was questioning Luke and making sure his people were being taken care of. He might be still down there and let us join him. If you wish," Alia asked, making sure he would be up for it first. "We would have to move quickly to not miss Killian-"
"Take
there please."
"Okay." Alia gave her room one final look to make sure everything was in order and then left with Cyrus locking the door behind her and following right behind her.
Alia led Cyrus to the big garden where tents had been put up to house the new wave of freed people. Many of the castle rooms were full of people Killian had saved and though so people had returned to their hos not enough room was available for everyone.
Blackwell guards blocked her path the mont she reached the garden but she told a passing northerner guard to inform Killian she was there and it wasn’t long before she was allowed to enter the area with Cyrus right behind her.
"I feel like I should not be here," Alia muttered because she was the princess of this kingdom and she failed everyone here for not being able to do anything until Killian showed up. She was well dressed while most people were in torn clothes and covered in bruises.
She received harsh stares, specifically from northerners who held a hatred for her father who sold them like they were animals. Alia didn’t bla them for not liking her presence. She would hate herself if she were in their shoes. The only reason she ventured this far was to make sure no one troubled Cyrus and she wanted to see the mont he would be reunited with his lover.
Alia spotted Killian in the distance and when their eyes t he whispered sothing to Alastor before approaching her.
"Why did you co here? It is not a place for a princess to be. Not only because of their state but so of them may hold anger toward your family. Co here," Killian guided her away from the crowd who watched her every move. The people here were angry, scared, or felt lost. There was no telling what they could do after realizing Alia was here.
"I brought Cyrus to see if the woman was here. Once he confirms if she is here or not, I will leave. Have you managed to find any more information from Luke about where the other slaves might be? We need to send out a search party before anyone can move around where they were hiding slaves," said Alia.
"He squealed like a pig wanting to be freed from getting eaten. I’ve already sent out groups of my n to inspect it. A few of your guards have joined them under the command of a man nad Leonard. Your cousin expressed his apologies for not joining
in the fight today," Killian chuckled as he did not believe for a mont such a frail man who most likely lived all his life with everything handed to him could fight.
Alia rolled her eyes at her cousin’s desperate attempt to look good in front of Killian. "Fraser wouldn’t leave the safety of his ho or the castle to fight a fly. Never expect him to be one of those kings to be at the front of his n ready for war. Honestly, it is scary how much he reminds
of my father sotis. I question if the kingdom will be in good hands with Fraser."
"Hmm," Killian replied as he had no intentions of letting her cousin remain on the throne for long. As soon as Fraser and whoever beca his queen would start trying to have an heir, Killian would kill them so his and Alia’s child would one day own the throne.
Depending on if Alia’s views were to ever change he could take the throne forcefully as he had planned to do in the first place.
Alia watched Cyrus circle around the garden inspecting every woman he passed by. She expected they would have had so way of being able to easily locate each other if they were this close but figured there were too many people for him to try doing so. She nervously tapped her finger on her arm, hoping that Cyrus would find who he was looking for today.
"Well, this certainly confirms that you do not have any feelings for that man. If you did, you would not want him to find the woman he is looking for. Unless I misread your behavior," Killian said jokingly to irritate her but to also confirm for the last ti that there was nothing between her and her guard.
Alia could not believe how jealous Killian was already. She had made it quite clear to him and everyone else that there was nothing between her and Cyrus. "Please do not ask
that again when you already know there is nothing going on between
and Cyrus. I don’t like repeating myself when it cos to this. By the way, you failed in checking to see if the woman was here after you promised to do so. Strike one."
Killian was confused by the ntion of a strike. "Where are these strikes coming from now? We were good on our way back to the castle but now that lover boy cannot find his lover you are taking it out on ? I did intend to search for her as she is one of my people and I have to ensure her safety. We have not yet identified everyone as we have been busy trying to feed and tend to their wounds. I deserve a bit of credit for that."
"You are right so I will remove the strike," Alia changed her mind.
"I have seen nurous scary things in the underworld but none compare to how easy it was for you to change your mind about giving
a strike. I have to look forward to easily switching from being on your good and bad side. I will not forget that," Killian said, making a ntal note of it.
"You shouldn’t," Alia replied, happy to see that he was quickly catching onto what he was up for. "Co on co on," she chanted over and over again as Cyrus inspected the crowd. "Oh," she perked up and tiptoed to get a better look at Cyrus when she saw him stop by a tent where a woman was tending to her wounds. "Is that her?"
