Chapter 106: Chapter 106
"Will I make a good queen? Up to this point, I’ve made many rash decisions that led to
being in trouble but the only way my voice could be heard was by rebelling. I’m sure there will be a lot of people in the north who will not view
as their queen and listen to my words. I need to start making better decisions and be ahead of everyone. Isn’t that right?" Alia questioned Loki as he laid on her large chair.
Loki yawned as he was bored with her conversation. Why worry about people when you could just eat them?
"Killian was right that instead of lazing around I should have run straight to create the truce. He knows what to do right away and as his wife, I will need to know what to do without him having to tell . I’m scared you know. All I’ve ever wanted was a chance to be a queen and now that it is here, I’m scared. What if I am not an excellent ruler? What if my dream to sit on a throne was pointless?"
Alia was normally confident but she could not ignore the possibility of failing.
"I hope I can blossom into a beautiful queen quickly. Side note, I need to have Gina bring my coats from the storage so I can have them packed up. I would love to know why demons are living in a cold area. Shouldn’t they love fire or sothing? I hope it is warm as many of my clothes are for warm weather," Alia said.
She looked at the pile of clothes she picked out herself to be packed up for the north. Since Killian was okay with her frequenting this castle from ti to ti, she was leaving so of her things behind. Ones that weren’t important in case soone found their way into her room and tried to destroy sothing.
"I need to look for my mother’s diary. I wonder if Leonard has made any progress looking for it. The tower should have been cleaned enough from the ashes for
to go inside. He should be able to find it considering he loved my mother. That was quite a shock but then again why wouldn’t he be in love with her? No one compared her beauty, her personality, and how smart she was. It was surprising the won my father decided to have an affair with."
Alia didn’t see how her father went from her mother to soone like Annabelle and then expected her mother would be jealous.
"I would strangle the hell out of your master if he brings anyone around
to be his mistress. Since you have chosen to be by my side, you should help
kill him if he is ever foolish enough to cheat on . Wait," Alia turned around to look at the wolf lazing around. "You are not a spy for Killian, right? You won’t go back and repeat everything I am saying right? Not that I care as I have made it pretty clear to him I would kill him if he takes a mistress. I just do not like traitors."
Loki looked up at Alia as if telling her to stop making up ridiculous assumptions.
"What? I have to be wary of you aside from the fact you can kill . You can be here to get things to report back to Killian. I don’t know anything about hellhounds if there is so way for you to talk to your masters? What if you are a demon disguised as a wolf?" Alia seriously considered the possibility. "For
to survive in the north, I need to be suspicious of everything."
Alia needed to get her hands on a book about demons and other creatures. Killian should have books to give her but she wanted to see the ones her grandmother should have. As the priests were ones to hunt creatures like Killian, they should have a variety of books detailing their weaknesses and every little thing they would wish to hide from a human like her.
"I am tired of packing. Are you going to laze around or will you co with
to inspect my mother’s tower?" Alia asked Loki. She wanted the wolf to walk with her so that no one would bother her while she inspected her mother’s things. "I see," she said after he did not move. "You can stay but do not expect
to give you treats when all you do is lay around."
Annoyed, Loki stood up from the chair to follow Alia.
"So, the best way to get you to move is to threaten you with treats? Got it. It has not even been a whole day with you but I am starting to figure you out better than Killian has," Alia bead, taking pride in how close she was getting to Loki already.
Loki growled, which was his way of telling Alia not to get ahead of herself. The only reason he was following her instead of sleeping was that he did not want her to send him back to Killian. With her, he could do as he pleased in the future unlike how he was with Killian who had him doing many tasks. Nothing was fun unless he got to kill soone, sleep, and eat. Soon enough, he could do all three with this woman as she had enemies who needed to be killed like the small man he t earlier.
Alia peeked outside and found that Cyrus was not by her door as he usually would be. She figured he must have gone to take a look at the slaves Killian was freeing. She did not want to stop him from finding the woman he wished to see so Alia decided to go to the tower with just Loki.
Once again, the servants panicked and rushed to get out of the way when they saw Alia walking the halls with the wolf.
Alia felt apologetic to the maids but not to anyone else. She truly enjoyed the silence as she walked through the halls toward her mother’s tower. As she was near it, Alia found guards at the entrance.
"Good afternoon," Alia greeted the two n. She half expected them to tell her no but they let her in without a word.
Alia walked by them, enjoying the freedom she had to go wherever she wanted. She touched the stone walls that had black marks but it was still standing perfectly fine. She inspected the portraits on the walls that were burned. There was no need for her to take any paintings of her mother from here as there were others in the castle she could take to serve as a mory in the north.
"I should have brought a basket," Alia muttered.
She walked up the swirled steps with Loki right behind her. He wagged his tag around as the sll of ash reminded him of the underworld. Why couldn’t this girl go to the underworld instead of this place? If she wanted to see things burnt, she could see many in the world down below.
Alia paused when she reached the door to lead her into the room she would spend many hours with her mother. She prepared herself to deal with the many emotions that would overco her not that she was back here.
Alia reached out and slowly turned the doorknob. To her surprise the mont she opened the door, she found that her mother’s room was not damaged by the fire. It only slled of smoke and the ashes that had made their way into the room.
"Mother, did you shield this room for ? I have not been able to rest at night even more than normal when thinking about this. I’m sorry it has taken
so long to visit your tower. Father did not like anyone coming inside and I could not take care of the outside. I’m sorry the flowers you liked looking out the window and seeing are not there. Please forgive
for being a terrible daughter," Alia apologized before she stepped into the room.
Her feet took her straight to the large bed she would snuggle up with her mother almost every night. She thought her mother would be lonely as she did not sleep with her husband so Alia tried to stay every chance she got.
Alia sat down on the bed which felt just as soft as she rembered. "Loki, trust
when I say there is no other place in this world where you would be able to get a good night’s rest like on this bed. This bed was the only place I was ever able to sleep through the night. My mother’s warmth would help
fall asleep the mont I laid down but now, I am awake each night."
Alia touched the cold bed that reminded her, her mother was long gone. "If only she was still here. I wish to show her that I am keeping my promise to beco a good queen. I hope she doesn’t mind that I will be in the north. If souls linger in this world as the temple says, I hope you leave and rest well until we et again mother."
