Ding Kun forcefully pushed Bai Xue’s hands away, his gaze calmly upon her, "You have to be responsible for your own choices, Bai Xue, I will have a new life, but it won’t include you."
He couldn’t bring himself to kick soone while they were down, but he would never forgive her either.
He strode away, his back straight.
It wasn’t until Cheng Zhiwei’s studio beca formalized that Ding Kun finally found so free ti from his busy work schedule, only to learn that Bai Xue had been beaten by Wen Jie into having a miscarriage and had been in a car accident.
When his friends ssaged him, they were full of sighs; after all, Ding Kun had once treated Bai Xue incredibly well. If Bai Xue hadn’t followed Wen Jie for the sake of benefits, their future might not have been so bright, but they would have been able to make do.
But she had gotten greedy.
When Cheng Zhiwei learned of the incident, she specifically gave Ding Kun a few days off to rest.
"I’m fine," Ding Kun said, carelessly ruffling his own hair.
He wanted to work.
Cheng Zhiwei said, "I need to go back to Yucheng for a while, don’t be too hard on yourself, just treat it as a holiday."
What Cheng Zhiwei actually ant was that the studio was in good condition, and she wanted to hire so staff to develop it.
Zhou Lin disagreed since then most of Cheng Zhiwei’s attention would be on her career, which was not good for their relationship.
So the workload at the studio was quite light.
Ding Kun nodded in agreent; he really did need so ti to settle his thoughts.
The reason Cheng Zhiwei needed to return to Yucheng was because the Zhou Group was thoroughly on the brink of bankruptcy.
If Zhou Lin didn’t go back, the Zhou Group would have to declare bankruptcy.
As for Zhou Jinzhong, who had always believed in his own outstanding talent, the harsh reality had slapped him in the face.
His abilities were nowhere near as strong as he had thought. Taking over a ss, he beca so exhausted that he ended up in the hospital several tis.
And yet the company’s situation continued to deteriorate, buried under debt.
There were many relatives in the Zhou Family, all of whom ca to plead with Zhou Lin to return.
Only then did Zhou Lin decide to go back to Yucheng.
Cheng Zhiwei also wanted to go back to see Cheng Zhiyin and the others, so she took the children with her.
Lin Yu had soone tidy up the villa in Sparkling Sky City, where they still lived.
Going around in circles, they ended up back here. Looking at the place that hadn’t changed much, Cheng Zhiwei felt sowhat nostalgic.
Just then, soone embraced her from behind.
Zhou Lin’s chin rested against her neck, his warm breath scattering beside her ear.
His voice was exceptionally gentle, "Zhiwei, welco ho."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t speak. This ho held too many mories, and she didn’t really want to live here.
Even though her relationship with Zhou Lin was still decent now, she didn’t want to stay here.
Not until the two children, one after the other, ran over— one crashing into her arms, and the other hugging Zhou Lin’s legs— did the vivid feeling of a living, breathing family wash away all the resentnt in her heart.
She bent down to pick up Cheng Xing, kissing her tender cheek, "Xingxing, do you like it here?"
Cheng Xing tilted her head, her voice clear and childish, "I like it, Mommy and Daddy are both here."
Through constant interaction over ti, Cheng Xing had accepted Zhou Lin as her father and relied on him a lot.
Cheng Zhiwei thus compromised.
In a place that couldn’t be seen, Zhou Lin showed a grateful smile towards Cheng Xing.
They say a daughter is a father’s cotton-padded jacket, and the saying couldn’t be more accurate.
The next morning, visitors arrived at the Zhou Family ho one after another. Cheng Zhiwei simply took the two children to Guo Cuihua’s place, staying out of the business affairs she didn’t understand.
Guo Cuihua had co back to attend a colleague’s child’s wedding and would be staying for a while.
She adored the two children, holding on to one with love that couldn’t be released.
Cheng Zhiwei softly asked her how Cheng Shang was doing now, whether he was still as stubborn as before.
Guo Cuihua disapproved of Cheng Shang’s current state, sighing, "He often sits there, lost in thought. I took him for a check-up, and it’s a precursor to senile dentia."
The things that Cheng Shang had done weighed heavily on his psyche, and the death of Seo Zhenzhen completely crushed him. Unable to accept such an outco, he developed ntal issues.
Often he would sit on the sofa, and it would take him a good while to respond when spoken to.
"Did he get checked out here?" Cheng Zhiwei inquired, given the dical conditions in Yucheng were far better.
"He refuses to co to Yucheng."
She persuaded him several tis, but Cheng Shang wouldn’t budge.
Guo Cuihua understood Cheng Shang; Yucheng was a place of sorrow for him, and after having done many ridiculous things there, he didn’t want to return once he’d left.
Cheng Zhiwei harbored considerable resentnt towards Cheng Shang as well. Even though she had experienced a near-death situation, and knew Cheng Shang had been used by He Mingzhu, it didn’t diminish any of her hatred.
"Then I’ll arrange for a professional doctor to go and give him a thorough check-up, see what treatnt is needed."
"He might not accept it," Guo Cuihua sighed.
Cheng Shang cared about his pride and was afraid of disappointing Cheng Zhiwei’s kind intention.
"But if it drags on like this, you’ll be the one who suffers the most later on," Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want Guo Cuihua to be tied down by Cheng Shang forever, taking care of him.
Cheng Shang didn’t deserve Guo Cuihua’s excellent care, so Cheng Zhiwei decided to get a doctor for Cheng Shang.
White hairs had sprouted at the temples of Guo Cuihua, adding traces of years. She took Cheng Zhiwei’s hand, whispering softly, "After all, he and I are husband and wife."
Cheng Zhiwei calmly said, "So I think it’s even more necessary to get a doctor. When the ti cos, just say it was you who asked for it, and he will cooperate with the treatnt."
Guo Cuihua agreed, then asked about Cheng Zhiwei’s plans with Zhou Lin.
Cheng Zhiwei’s gaze fell on the two children, her expression becoming sowhat detached, "We’ll be together, but it’s highly likely we won’t get married."
She couldn’t forgive Zhou Lin for what he had done in the past, but he had nearly sacrificed his life to save her, and she couldn’t bring herself to truly end things heartlessly, especially with three children involved. So in the end, she decided to maintain the status quo.
Being together when the feelings were there, and parting amicably when they weren’t, was good for everyone.
Noticing her composed deanor, Guo Cuihua thought of Cheng Zhiyin, her heart heavy, "Now that you’re back, please talk so sense into Zhiyin. She plans to quit at the end of this sester and follow us back to our hotown."
No matter what, Guo Cuihua hoped that Cheng Zhiyin would stay in Yucheng; she feared Cheng Zhiyin would be targeted again back in her hotown.
Besides, for such a young girl with her own career, it was much better to stay here.
Cheng Zhiwei thought of Huo Yaya, Huo Xuan’s sister.
Cheng Zhiyin’s decision to leave might have had a lot to do with her.
But she didn’t share these thoughts with Guo Cuihua, only saying she would talk to Cheng Zhiyin.
In the afternoon, Guo Cuihua called Cheng Zhiyin over for a al, but Cheng Zhiyin said she had matters at school and couldn’t make it.
Cheng Zhiwei packed so food to take to her.
Yet, before she reached her office, she heard a woman’s voice from inside, "Miss Cheng, as a teacher, you must know the value of human life."
The woman sighed, "Yaya attempted suicide. We cannot ignore this."
Cheng Zhiyin’s voice responded, "Madam Huo, I have had no relationship with Huo Xuan for quite so ti now, and we haven’t been in touch either, so you needn’t worry."
"Miss Cheng, what I an is, I hope you can leave Yucheng as soon as possible." Madam Huo’s tone was gentle as she spoke, her words seemingly pleading, yet they sounded more like coercion.
