Cheng Zhiwei felt a sense of relief.
She said to ng Qiancheng, "My friend has arrived, I need to go."
ng Qiancheng looked at He Ye without any expression and spoke dismissively, "He Rongwei’s youngest son, I heard he can sing well?"
A chill ran down Cheng Zhiwei’s back. She pursed her lips, trying to remain calm, "ng Qiancheng, he’s just a normal friend of mine."
"I wouldn’t do anything, Weiwei, you’re making sad," ng Qiancheng said with a smile, reaching out to touch Cheng Zhiwei’s hair.
Cheng Zhiwei sidestepped and walked towards He Ye.
He Ye gave ng Qiancheng a cold glance and asked Cheng Zhiwei in a low voice, "Are you alright?"
"I’m fine, let’s go." Cheng Zhiwei shook her head, and they both left together.
ng Qiancheng watched them go, the smile on his face gradually vanishing until all expression receded into darkness.
Once downstairs, Cheng Zhiwei’s discomfort began to ease. She asked He Ye, "How did you co here?"
He Ye’s gaze drifted past the crowd to Zhou Lin, "He asked to co."
Zhou Lin, busy as a top, couldn’t always be beside Cheng Zhiwei. Seeing that she hadn’t co down, he had He Ye go look for her.
He Ye arrived just in ti.
"Is that ng Qiancheng?" He Ye asked. He still rembered ng Qiancheng from when he treated Cheng Zhiwei’s throat and heard sothing had happened later.
"Yes," Cheng Zhiwei didn’t hide it, "He is Zhou Lin’s half-brother from the sa mother, and Zhou Chenyan’s son."
He Ye narrowed his eyes. He had heard about Zhou Chenyan and hadn’t expected ng Qiancheng to be his son.
"Are they back?"
"They naturally want everything of the Zhou Family."
Everything of the Zhou Family ant wealth, including people.
She glanced around but didn’t see Zhou Chenyan anywhere.
Thinking of Lin Yu alone in the room, she felt uneasy.
She quietly asked He Ye, "Senior, could you please help with another thing?"
"Tell ."
"I have to go check on Auntie Lin. I’ll send you a ssage every half hour. If you don’t get my ssage, have Zhou Lin co looking for ."
"Alright, you go."
Cheng Zhiwei went back upstairs. ng Qiancheng was no longer in the hallway, and she hurried into the room.
In the spacious room, a sliver of sunlight ca through. Lin Yu was lying on the bed, not sleeping peacefully.
Cheng Zhiwei closed and locked the doors and windows, leaned on a nearby sofa, and checked her phone for a while until drowsiness hit.
She put down her phone and went to wash her face in the bathroom.
These days of staying up late had left dark circles under her eyes, her eyes were swollen, and she looked significantly worn.
Luckily, Zhou Chenyuan’s funeral would end tomorrow, and everything would be fine unless sothing chaotic happened.
Just then, she tried to leave but found the door wouldn’t open.
A bad feeling imdiately rose in her heart.
No longer caring about disturbing Lin Yu’s sleep, she started banging on the door, "Auntie, Auntie Lin, wake up."
Zhou Chenyan’s nonchalant voice ca from outside, "Shh, be quiet, Ah Yu is sleeping."
Cheng Zhiwei felt chills on her scalp; she had locked all the doors and windows, how did Zhou Chenyan get in?
And he had locked the bathroom door from the outside without her noticing at all...
"Uncle," Cheng Zhiwei tried to maintain polite and tact as she stalled, "Uncle, if others knew you ca in while Auntie was resting, it might not sound very good."
"Why would they know if you don’t tell them?" Zhou Chenyan scoffed carelessly, "And what about it if they did? She was originally mine; it was Zhou Chenyuan who took her away."
His last sentence was abrupt, his voice dark and fierce.
Cheng Zhiwei’s heart sank.
Outside, Zhou Chenyan’s voice softened, he murmured, "Ah Yu, I’m finally back, and this ti no one can separate us."
"I told you, if you run away again, I’ll break your legs and keep you by my side forever."
"Ah Yu, where did I fall short that you’d betray to be with him?"
His voice was becoming increasingly agitated, as if he was sinking into so overwhelming emotion.
Cheng Zhiwei turned to open the window, only to find the lock had sohow been damaged and wouldn’t budge.
As she frantically looked for sothing hard, a frightened voice from Lin Yu echoed, "Zhou Chenyan, what are you doing here?"
Zhou Chenyan slowly retracted the fingers from her lips, whirling his tongue around his fingertips with a rising brow, insolently flippant.
"Ah Yu, you’re awake."
"Zhou Chenyan."
"Was it that woman in the bathroom who woke you up?" His face suddenly darkened, his gaze turning cold as he looked towards the bathroom, "Shall I kill her to make you feel better?"
The woman in the bathroom?
Lin Yu’s hand under the blanket clenched.
Zhou Chenyan strode to the bathroom door, which Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t open no matter how hard she tried, and he effortlessly pulled it open.
Before Cheng Zhiwei could react, he grabbed her by the hair and dragged her out.
"Zhiwei." Lin Yu struggled out of bed, threw herself onto Cheng Zhiwei, and shouted at Zhou Chenyan, "Zhou Chenyan, what are you doing? Let her go."
Zhou Chenyan slowly let go, his expression one of surprised grievance, "Ah Yu, are you yelling at for her?"
His tone was as if they were still lovers in a passionate relationship.
Lin Yu held Cheng Zhiwei, closed her eyes briefly; she had witnessed Zhou Chenyan’s madness before, but facing him again still left her at a loss.
"Zhou Chenyan, Zhiwei is my favorite child, you can’t hurt her," Lin Yu tried to remain calm, stalling with Zhou Chenyan, "Let her go, let’s talk this over just between us."
Zhou Chenyan tilted his head, his smile deep, "Ah Yu, are you pleading for her?"
Lin Yu knew his unpredictable nature. If she said she was pleading, he might say he wouldn’t grant her wish; if she said she wasn’t pleading for Cheng Zhiwei, he might decide to grant her wish instead.
Either way, it would be up to his mood.
"Not hers."
"What’s it going to be, Ah Yu? Hmm?" Zhou Chenyan crouched in front of Lin Yu, his smile malicious and sly, grasping her chin firmly, making eye contact, "My dear sister-in-law, are you going to plead for her?"
Lin Yu squeezed her palm, restraining the fear spreading inside her.
She tried to be as calm and composed as possible, "Zhou Chenyan, I know you hate , you can take revenge on , but Zhiwei is not involved in our issues."
"But she almost killed Qiancheng." Zhou Chenyan’s face suddenly grew grim and malevolent, his gaze at Cheng Zhiwei like he wanted to kill, "Qiancheng is our son, Ah Yu, don’t you care about him?"
"It was you who said he was dead initially," Lin Yu couldn’t take it anymore and argued, "Zhou Chenyan, you lied to , you hid him, you lied saying he was dead, it was you... all you..."
