Cheng Zhiwei was investigating the Bai Family when Zhou Lin arrived just after she had found soone to start the investigation.
Cheng Zhiwei assud he was there to see the child.
But Zhou Lin quickly pulled her aside to the balcony and bluntly asked her if she was investigating Cheng Shang.
Cheng Zhiwei was stunned for a mont before nodding in confirmation.
Zhou Lin lit a cigarette, his eyes reflecting a mix of sympathy and contemplation, "I didn’t dare to tell you before; I was afraid you’d think I was being nosy. But since you want to know the truth, I can share what I’ve found so you don’t waste your ti."
He was well-intentioned, and it was sothing Cheng Zhiwei needed; she wouldn’t refuse. "Thank you."
"The person my uncle helped—I’m looking into it. It’s a bit difficult for now. If you want to know about that, you might have to wait or ask yourself," Zhou Lin said patiently and carefully.
"As for the Bai Family, you don’t need to investigate them anymore. The couple died young, and their only brother had his legs broken due to loan sharks. My people have asked around; they’re just an ordinary family and have no connection to your biological parents."
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes slightly stung, and she looked towards the distance to keep tears from falling in Zhou Lin’s presence.
"I understand."
Since Zhou Lin had already investigated, she figured there was no need to look further.
"Zhiwei..." Zhou Lin’s throat bobbed, feeling a tenderness towards her that he hadn’t felt before, "If the Cheng Family doesn’t accept you, you can co with ..."
"No need."
Cheng Zhiwei knew what Zhou Lin was about to say and shut him down with two words.
"Zhiwei."
"Please go back; I need so quiet," Cheng Zhiwei said, ending the conversation there.
She didn’t want to hear any promises. Zhou Lin had a past, and he might still form a union with He Mingzhu.
All his words seed pointless.
Zhou Lin wanted to reassure her she could live peacefully as he would handle all her problems, but looking into her indifferent eyes, he found himself unable to speak.
He took a heavy drag on his cigarette, agitated by recent events.
In the end, he left without making any promises.
Cheng Zhiwei stayed on the balcony for a while before returning inside. Seeing her children playing, her spirits gradually lifted.
Marriages could end in divorce, and a parent could turn out to be soone else.
But the children were her own.
She still had family and continuity in this world.
There was no need for self-pity.
With this realization, her mood lightened considerably, and she went over to kiss the children.
"Mom?" Cheng Yang, who was playing happily, wasn’t upset at being interrupted and called out in confusion.
Cheng Xing imdiately turned and tenderly kissed Cheng Zhiwei’s cheek.
Cheng Zhiwei joined in their play.
Perhaps it was ti to consider leaving this place.
Settling her emotions, Cheng Zhiwei felt much better.
The next day, after dropping off the children, she went to the hospital to see Guo Cuihua.
However, Guo Cuihua still did not want to see her.
Cheng Zhiwei felt dejected; it was natural for Guo Cuihua not to want to et her after such a dramatic event, and the death of Seo Zhenzhen would have deeply hurt her.
Feeling sowhat down but quickly recovering,
she handed over what she brought to Cheng Zhiyin, "Thank you. I’ll co again in a few days."
Cheng Zhiyin had likely co to terms with the situation over the last few days and was no longer as distant or formal as before, even showing the kind of care she used to.
"She said she doesn’t bla you, but the incident has deeply affected her. She needs ti to accept and digest everything, so don’t take it to heart and take good care of Yangyang and Xingxing."
"Okay."
"Also, Zhiwei, if you’re still willing, you can keep calling sister. As I’ve said before, you’ve always been my sister."
Cheng Zhiwei was stunned and looked up sharply at Cheng Zhiyin.
She was still willing to let her call her sister?
Cheng Zhiyin gently embraced her, apologizing with a sad smile, "I’m sorry for my attitude before... and for even blaming you."
She candidly admitted her feelings.
"But these days, I’ve realized that no one would wish for such an event, and you were indeed innocent," Cheng Zhiyin said with a bitter smile, "With Seo Zhenzhen’s personality, being my sister might not have brought peaceful days."
She had made peace with the situation.
Cheng Zhiwei had done a lot for her, making this sisterhood worthwhile.
Unexpectedly, Cheng Zhiwei’s tears fell.
At this mont, Cheng Zhiyin’s acceptance was like a tonic for her, warr than anything else could be.
"Sister," she cried softly.
Cheng Zhiyin, too, had tears in her eyes, "Zhiwei, what happened has happened, and we can’t change it, but we can choose a better life and not drown in hatred."
"Okay."
The two of them cald their emotions and gradually ca to terms.
Finally, Cheng Zhiyin said, "Mom is very sad; she ntioned divorce."
"What?" Cheng Zhiwei was taken aback.
Guo Cuihua wants a divorce?
"Mom isn’t confused. She doesn’t want to see you because she hasn’t accepted the reality yet, but she knows, deep down, that this whole ss was Dad’s obstinacy and self-righteousness, so she wants a divorce."
Perhaps only through divorce could Cheng Shang realize his mistakes.
Cheng Zhiwei’s recently pacified heart started to ache again.
They were nearly forty-year spouses, a family already; getting a divorce isn’t simple, especially not the emotional aspect.
"It’s still because of ."
Cheng Zhiyin shook her head, "Not because of you, but because he did wrong."
Cheng Zhiyin had initially struggled to accept it too, feeling sorrow at seeing Cheng Zhiwei, but she was sensible and knew it wasn’t fair to bla Cheng Zhiwei.
Cheng Shang’s accusations of Cheng Zhiwei lacking forgiveness were rely his attempt to deflect the conflict.
"Sister."
"Go back for now. Once mother relents, I’ll call you to co over," Cheng Zhiyin said soothingly, "Bring Yangyang and Xingxing when you co, it’s sure to work."
Cheng Zhiwei felt incredibly ward, "Okay."
When she left the hospital, she couldn’t help but smile more, feeling much better.
Perhaps, she had been too pessimistic; things were not as hopeless and desperate as she thought.
Upon reaching her studio, she silently completed her work, stepping out of the recording booth just to overhear soone whisper, "The financial pipeline is broken."
"If he doesn’t agree, the studio can’t survive."
Cheng Zhiwei was shocked and turned to find He Ye.
In the office, He Ye stood by the window, his expression blank as he looked outside. The sunlight was bright but seed to carry no warmth.
"Senior," Cheng Zhiwei called after closing the door.
She walked over, catching a glimpse of a contract on his desk.
It was a contract for rging into the He Family Company. With He Ye’s signature, the current situation would be resolved.
He Ye, mired in tornt over this issue, turned around, his gaze softening, "Finished your work?"
Cheng Zhiwei had already picked up the contract and quickly skimd through it.
