He Yuming was stolen away by He Lanzhi, Mr. Xu passed away; one blow after another turned Xu Tian pale and made her seem on the verge of collapse.
If it weren’t for Cheng Zhiwei standing by her side, she simply couldn’t have stood.
Xu Xin was supporting Madam Xu and stood aside, watching coldly, "Putting on an act."
Madam Xu dabbed at the corners of her eyes and walked over, "Xu Tian, now that your father is dead, you have no relation to the Xu family anymore. Do you understand what I an?"
Cheng Zhiwei frowned as she looked at Madam Xu. Mr. Xu’s body was still in the hospital, and yet she could say such cold and heartless words.
Xu Tian grasped Cheng Zhiwei’s hand tightly and forced herself to calm down, "Do you an, I’m not allowed to attend my father’s funeral?"
She understood Madam Xu all too well, this was the perfect ti to press her.
Madam Xu indifferently said, "As long as you understand my words, that’s good. Xu Tian, you are an illegitimate daughter, you don’t have the right to attend his funeral."
"He was good to you while he lived because you had his blood running through your veins, but to , you’re just a bastard child. I won’t let others sneer at his funeral that he had a bastard outside."
She spoke with seeming dignity, but each ti she called Xu Tian a bastard, she was actually scolding her. She thought she could suppress Xu Tian with filial piety and that Xu Tian would have to accept it, holding her nose.
But Xu Tian wasn’t soone who would just take things lying down.
She held her chin up and looked at Madam Xu coldly, "Fine, give that thirty percent of the shares or the equivalent in money, and I won’t attend his funeral."
Once everything was settled, she could go to the cetery to see him.
Madam Xu’s face instantly turned miserable. She clutched her handkerchief tightly, looking like she had suffered a great injustice, "Xu Tian, your father has just died, and all you can talk about is shares and money; you’re not afraid of chilling his heart."
Xu Xin, filled with righteous indignation, stomped her foot, "Xu Tian, dad has just passed away, and you’re already talking about dividing the inheritance; you’re truly shaless."
"This was promised to , there was a lawyer present at the ti. If you don’t hand it over, I will sue you." Xu Tian dropped this harsh statent and left with Cheng Zhiwei.
It wasn’t until she was in the car that she could no longer control herself and began to tremble all over, sobbing loudly.
"It’s not your fault," Cheng Zhiwei comforted her. "If your uncle were here, he would definitely agree with what you’re doing. Now that uncle has passed away, the Xu family has nothing to do with you, you just need to take care of yourself."
"I know, it’s just that my heart hurts." Xu Tian cried, "I have resented him, but I am also thankful that he kept by his side and taught how to survive."
After more than ten minutes, Xu Tian gradually cald down. She still needed to find out He Yuming’s whereabouts, "It’s very late, Zhiwei, you should go back."
"But..."
"I’ll wait at ho for any news."
Once they returned to the neighborhood, Cheng Zhiwei saw Xu Tian ho, then went back to her own place.
Guo Cuihua asked her how things went, and Cheng Zhiwei shook her head gently, "There’s no news of He Lanzhi."
"After all, he is He Yuming’s father; he shouldn’t be too excessive," Guo Cuihua could only comfort her like this.
Cheng Zhiwei went back to her room and glanced at the ti. Six hours had passed since the incident, and there was still no news.
What exactly did He Lanzhi want to do?
Simply take He Yuming away?
He Yuming was so young and had never liked He Lanzhi, who knows what could happen?
Xu Tian... I wonder how much longer she can hold on...
She stood in her room for a while, picked up her phone, hesitated for a few minutes, and then drove to the Zhou Group.
Once at the reception, she straightforwardly stated that she was there to see Zhou Lin.
I had thought it wouldn’t be so easy to see Zhou Lin, but to my surprise, only a few minutes after the receptionist relayed the ssage, Secretary Zhang personally ca down to fetch , with respectful deanor, "President Zhou is in a eting. Please follow ."
"Thank you for the trouble." Cheng Zhiwei followed upstairs.
Secretary Zhang led her directly into Zhou Lin’s office, and soon after, a female secretary brought her tea and pastries, smiling brilliantly, "Young Madam, long ti no see."
Cheng Zhiwei guessed that she must have t the female secretary a long ti ago when she ca to seek Zhou Lin, so she nodded politely, "Long ti no see."
The female secretary looked puzzled for a mont but said no more and left.
Secretary Zhang whispered a command to her, "Young Madam’s mory is a bit confused, don’t overthink it."
The female secretary nodded hurriedly, "I understand."
Cheng Zhiwei hadn’t been sitting for long before Zhou Lin ca in, deliberately slowing his hurried steps at the doorway. He adjusted his tie, softened his tone, "Zhiwei."
Cheng Zhiwei stood up and looked at Zhou Lin. He was dressed in an iron-grey suit, the very image of a stern business elite. I wasn’t sure if it was because he had just been in a eting, but despite his effort to restrain himself, there was still an austere aura about him.
It sparked an innate fear, yet it seed he was ant to carry such an aura.
"Zhiwei?" Zhou Lin called again, "You’re looking for , is there sothing you need?"
He was quite self-aware, knowing that given their current relationship, Cheng Zhiwei wouldn’t seek him out without a reason.
Cheng Zhiwei clenched her fingers, suppressing the embarrassnt, and said softly, "I need to ask for your help."
Zhou Lin had already approached her. Seeing her sowhat guilty expression, his eyes darkened, "Speak."
"He Lanzhi has secretly taken He Yuming away. No matter what, Xu Tian couldn’t find them, and her father has just passed away..." Cheng Zhiwei simply recounted the whole ordeal, "I was thinking since you have a good relationship with He Lanzhi, could you help us find him and ask him to bring He Yuming back?"
"Secretary Zhang." Zhou Lin called out.
Secretary Zhang ca in imdiately.
Zhou Lin ordered coldly, "You heard what Zhiwei said, start searching right now."
"Yes, President Zhou."
Cheng Zhiwei breathed a sigh of relief and expressed her thanks genuinely, "Thank you so much."
In all of Yucheng, probably only Zhou Lin had the power to swiftly locate He Lanzhi’s whereabouts.
Zhou Lin glanced at the ti and asked tentatively, "Shall we have dinner together?"
Cheng Zhiwei wanted to refuse imdiately but rembering that he had just agreed to help find He Yuming, she worried refusing might anger him, so she accepted the invitation.
Zhou Lin chose a Western restaurant not too far away.
The place had an elegant ambiance and the food was quite good as well.
Zhou Lin patiently and carefully placed a portion of a well-cut steak in front of Cheng Zhiwei, "It tastes quite good, try it."
Cheng Zhiwei felt her appetite fade, looking at the neatly sliced steak on her plate, she rely shuffled it around a bit before stopping.
"Does it not suit your taste?" Zhou Lin inquired, his deep eyes were tender, and they carried a cautiousness known only to him.
He was pleased that she had co to find him, but dared not show too much enthusiasm, for fear that she might beco angry and leave.
"It’s delicious, it’s just ," Cheng Zhiwei gripped her knife and fork tightly. She hesitated, wondering whether she should remind Zhou Lin that Zhou Ruoki might not be his child.
But if she told him, such a young child would have to face that cruel truth. How could he bear it?
