Chapter 25: Chapter 25 I Sing Acapella

He Ye rushed back from Yucheng early in the morning precisely because he heard that Cheng Zhiwei had been replaced, but he had no idea there was also an incident involving drinking.

He turned his head to look at Cheng Zhiwei, full of doubt, "Drinking?"

Cheng Zhiwei spoke in a low voice, "I’m fine."

Bai Zhuzhu propped her chin, her face the picture of innocence, "That’s right, Sister Zhiwei drank fifty cups of white liquor and left with Producer Wu. Many people saw it, and since Sister Zhiwei and Senior have a good relationship, you can’t hide this kind of thing from him, right?"

Cheng Zhiwei was well aware of her own physical condition. Aside from a sore back and aching waist from sleeping on the floor all night, she felt no discomfort and still believed firmly that she had been sent back to her room by soone arranged by Xu Tian.

And Bai Zhuzhu was just trying to stir up trouble between her and He Ye.

She smiled reassuringly at He Ye, "I really am fine, Senior He Ye. Everything was fine last night."

He Ye’s face did not look very good, "We will talk about this later."

Just then, Wu Chengshuang ca in and saw He Ye, his expression shifting slightly, with a forced smile, "Mr. He is back."

He Ye tapped on the table, looking at Wu Chengshuang half- smiling, half-mocking, "Producer Wu, you have quite the authority to change the person Director Wen had decided on."

Wu Chengshuang just laughed it off, "Where would I get the authority to change Director Wen’s choice? This Miss Bai Zhuzhu has quite a reputation in the circle recently, and her voice is especially pleasant to hear. It was Young President Zhou of Zhou Group who personally recomnded her."

The last sentence was the crucial point.

Cheng Zhiwei felt a pang in her heart. Indeed, it was Zhou Lin. He was using all his resources to promote Bai Zhuzhu.

It’s quite ironic when you think about it. After all, she was the legitimate one, while her husband was sitting across from her, accompanying the mistress.

He Ye scoffed, "Young President Zhou?"

Wu Chengshuang, unaware of the relationships among the people present, nodded obsequiously, "Yes, Young President Zhou added an investnt to the movie, and this ending song slot was a thank-you gift to him. Mr. He, you are now serving the crew too, surely I don’t need to spell out the logic here."

He Ye leaned back in his chair, curling his lips in a scornful sneer, "A person of corrupt morals and low virtue is not worthy of singing the song I wrote."

The remark was directed straight at Bai Zhuzhu.

Bai Zhuzhu’s eyes reddened instantly, and she looked at Zhou Lin with a pitiful gaze, "Brother Lin."

Wu Chengshuang was taken aback by He Ye’s blunt words, "Mr. He, you can’t just say anything you want."

"The lyrics and music of this song were tailor-made for Cheng Zhiwei; no one else would do." He Ye firmly defended Cheng Zhiwei’s rights.

Cheng Zhiwei felt a warmth in her heart, her eyes gleaming as she looked at He Ye.

Zhou Lin simply felt it was an eyesore, snorting coldly, as if witnessing a display of love between sweethearts.

Wu Chengshuang frowned, becoming more forceful, "Mr. He, there’s no such stipulation in the contract. If you insist on this course of action, it would be a breach of contract."

Anyway, with Zhou Lin backing him, he was very confident.

He Ye was already angry, his tone harsh, "So, you an to say you’re going to make that decision?"

Wu Chengshuang suddenly fell silent.

Cheng Zhiwei patted He Ye’s arm to keep him calm and said, "Producer Wu, I have just one question: if this slot was pre-determined, why did you bother holding auditions in the first place? I passed that audition; I have the right to a reasonable explanation, don’t I?"

Bai Zhuzhu bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes as she lanted, "You spilled porridge on

that day, forcing

to go back and change clothes and thus making

late. I guess you didn’t want

to audition. Sister Zhiwei, what have I done to offend you that you would treat

this way?"

Wu Chengshuang imdiately caught onto an issue, "Mr. He keeps saying that people with poor moral character shouldn’t sing his songs, yet Miss Cheng deliberately dirtied soone else’s clothes for the audition. Is this a sign of good character?"

"It’s not like that," He Ye frowned, casting a cold glance at Bai Zhuzhu.

"Bai Zhuzhu, you said I splashed you to prevent you from auditioning, but wasn’t it because you insulted

first with your nasty mouth?" Cheng Zhiwei laughed angrily, thinking Bai Zhuzhu was truly a master at inverting right and wrong.

Of course, it was also because she had a powerful backer by her side whom no one dared to offend.

Glancing at Zhou Lin’s expressionless face, Cheng Zhiwei felt even more irritated. He was so protective of Bai Zhuzhu; he might as well just marry her and dote on her openly, instead of dangling her in front of Cheng Zhiwei to provoke her.

It was so annoying.

Bai Zhuzhu bit her lip, "All I did was ask a couple of questions about your relationship, Sister Zhiwei. Why get angry over that?"

Cheng Zhiwei, not wanting to waste words with her, crisply said, "My request is simple: redo the audition."

Bai Zhuzhu’s lips curled in a rather smug smile, "Since Sister Zhiwei insists on a redo to acknowledge the result, of course, I’m willing."

Held aloft by Zhou Lin over the years, Bai Zhuzhu had beco quite conceited, naturally believing that Cheng Zhiwei’s voice couldn’t compare to hers.

Since both won agreed, and the n around had no objections, Wu Chengshuang arranged for it.

The two drew lots, and Bai Zhuzhu went first.

Just as Bai Zhuzhu was ready to sing, the door was pushed open, and a casually dressed middle-aged woman walked in. He Ye and Wu Chengshuang both stood up, "Director Wen."

The famous director Wen Ya had co to the audition herself.

Wen Ya sat beside Zhou Lin, and they nodded to greet each other.

Wu Chengshuang gestured to start, and Bai Zhuzhu began her performance. She chose a song she had sung before which was widely popular, giving her an advantage over Cheng Zhiwei, the relatively unknown newcor.

After the song ended, Producer Wu clapped his hands, "Miss Bai has a clear voice and a solid foundation, very good indeed."

Cheng Zhiwei tugged at her lip, holding back her scorn, but He Ye gave a sharp critique, "A singing technique without emotion isn’t worth praise. If even that distinction eludes you, Producer Wu, perhaps it’s ti for a new music producer."

Among those present, only He Ye and Wu Chengshuang were professionals, and their differing opinions made everyone all the more eager to hear Cheng Zhiwei’s voice.

Cheng Zhiwei stood up, calmly facing the crowd, "Miss Bai’s song, I happen to know a section of it. So, let

sing that very song."

Bai Zhuzhu felt disdain in her heart but kept a gentle smile on her face, not believing that Cheng Zhiwei could sing the song better than her.

Wu Chengshuang asked the staff to play the music, but Cheng Zhiwei stopped them. Her gaze was calm yet carried imnse pressure, as she stared at Bai Zhuzhu, "I’ll sing a cappella."

Bai Zhuzhu’s face changed color.

Only imnse self-confidence engenders such statents—was Cheng Zhiwei absolutely sure or rely arrogant...

Cheng Zhiwei looked at the lyrics on her phone, found the pitch, and began to sing. After two lines, Bai Zhuzhu’s already sullen face darkened further, while the others showed faces of shock and admiration.

Especially Wen Ya, who had already stood up, her eyes blazing as she watched Cheng Zhiwei, clearly very impressed with her voice.

Bai Zhuzhu was so angry she dug her nails into her own fingers. Cheng Zhiwei could have chosen a different song, but she deliberately picked hers to slap her face in public.

That bitch.
