The Queen’s Letter [Part 2]
The monsters had entered the knight’s line of sight when he averted his gaze from the “forbidden relationship.” As it was so sudden, the knight had completely seen the rainbow raccoon’s eyes that he was told not to look at no matter what.
‘Oh no…’ He imdiately tried to turn his gaze away, but it was already too late.
The knight’s vision was “stolen” by the rainbow-colored raccoon as he was instantly enveloped by spreading darkness.
And then, there was only nothingness.
Even signs of presence of the King right next to him, the girl, and the monsters abruptly disappeared as everything went poof.
“…huh? Wha? …so dark.”
*thump thump thump* He could only hear his own heartbeat.
“W-Wait… Please… anything but the dark…”
What the knight feared the most was darkness. When he was little, he was locked up in a closet for misbehaving. He wasn’t forgiven even after he apologized, cried, or shouted.
When he asked about it later, it seed that he was locked up for only several minutes, but to him, it was so frightening that it felt like hours had passed in that closet.
From that day onwards, darkness was the last thing he could stand. Even so, he had always thought that he had gradually overco it as he grew older.
…that was only until this mont.
No matter how much or what kind of training he had gone through as a knight, he couldn’t win against the fear rooted in his subconscious.
Rainbow raccoons could invade the targets’ mory of fear, control their mind, and if needed, cause hallucinations.
“A-ARGHHHH!”
Rainbow raccoons utilized people’s fear of monsters and even their mories. Even the strongest of n wouldn’t stand a chance.
No one is strong from birth, after all.
And then, the panic spread.
Another knight lifted his gaze upon hearing the first knight’s scream and happened to catch sight of the rainbow raccoons who had been jumping around the place.
“EEKK!”
Another knight shrieked.
“STOP, S-STOP IT! Why are you alive? Why? You… WHYYYY—”
The second knight was caught in the fear left in his heart.
He pointed his finger at an empty space, fell flat on his bottom, and trembled greatly.
“F-For them to let out such agonizing shrieks… What’s exactly happening?”
The King, whose face was held in place and thus could only see Emma’s face, stirred slightly upon hearing the screams of his proud knights, whom he had personally trained.
“Your Majesty, that’s because of the rainbow raccoons. Your Majesty, please keep your eyes on just like this. Yes, only on !”
Emma, who was half serious and half taking advantage of the mont for her ulterior motive, pulled back the King’s face, which had moved slightly upward.
Professor Wolfgang had taught the students during the extracurricular lesson that… rainbow raccoons, who fell into the small-sized, powerless category among monsters, were not dangerous as long as one didn’t lock eyes with them. Even if one were attacked directly by rainbow raccoons, at worst, it would result in broken bones. The situation was still salvageable if the victims were only trembling like the knights who unluckily t the rainbow raccoons’ gaze.
The most frightening would be if the person who received the psychic attack lashed out after being cornered by fear.
Tornted by fear, they would start swinging their swords blindly. And as they would no longer be in a ntal state capable of distinguishing between ally or enemy, the ones who would be hurt by those swords were not the monsters but the allies right next to them.
When soone started lashing out, not only did the other unaffected people have to dodge the incoming attacks, but they also had to subdue the affected ones with their limited field of vision to prevent the damage from spreading. And if, within that process, they locked eyes with rainbow raccoons for even in the slightest, they would be seized with fear, and the number of people losing their sanity would increase. This nightmare would only keep repeating itself.
-Patiently waiting until everyone lost their sanity.-
That was the rainbow raccoons’ attacking thod.
