Breaking free from the daydreams, he turned his eyes one last ti towards the subject of his final oath. Her small body looked as fragile as a crystal glass sculpture a stray gust of wind threatened to shatter.

This little one has withstood far stronger gales unbroken. She is made of sterner stuff.

Though 'sterner stuff' alone would not protect her from high-ordnance rounds. That was his job, after all.

He turned back and stared at the broken strings of code running across his damaged HUD, the numbers that promised nothing but defeat, and he rejected them. Opening his mouth, he whispered, his voice hoarse yet firm.

"Unspool reactor core."
