Returning ho, it was already past midnight, and neither Gina nor Emily Lopez had gone to sleep. Hearing the sound of the door opening, they imdiately stood up and hurried to the entrance.
Seeing Jas and Lucy Campbell return safely, Gina let out a sigh of relief and said, "You’re finally back."
Lucy Campbell gave an apologetic smile and said, "Borrowing your husband and making you worry like this, I’ve committed quite a sin."
Gina quickly said, "No, no, Lucy, don’t worry about it. It’s just that when Jas went out, I, as his wife, got a bit worried. Don’t take it the wrong way."
Lucy laughed and said, "Why would I take it the wrong way? Having a wife like you at ho worrying about him, a man will return to your side no matter how far he runs. You’re making Jas glad."
Sandra was not worried about Jas. At this mont, she excitedly pulled over Jas and said, "Brother-in-law, brother-in-law, quickly tell , how did you deal with those bastards?"
Knowing Gina must be eager to hear as well, Jas smiled and recounted the night’s events in a relaxed manner, as if he were rely playing with their adversaries, making it sound not dangerous at all.
Gina and Sandra were amused by Jas, giggling continuously, especially upon hearing how Andrew Johnson knocked himself out on a steel plate, which made them laugh uncontrollably.
Lucy felt Jas’s recount now was much more interesting than earlier in the car, and couldn’t stop laughing along, teasing, "You didn’t tell it this amusingly in the car earlier."
Jas smiled and said, "I was driving then, and besides, I had to be cautious if anyone was tailing us, so I didn’t elaborate."
Sandra managed to hold back her laughter and said, "Brother-in-law, this is really hilarious. How could that guy be so silly, running into a steel plate and knocking himself out."
With a smile, Jas said, "Honestly, I didn’t expect such an outco. I just didn’t want him to escape, who would’ve thought he was in such a hurry."
Gina, now completely relieved, stood up with a smile and said, "Alright, alright, it’s late. Jas, Lucy, you two go wash up and rest."
Everyone dispersed, took a shower, and went to sleep.
The next morning, Lucy received a call and hurried back to the Capital of SSUP. Knowing the S Organization’s intentions, the Sanker Family had to figure out how to respond. As one of the most important figures in the Sanker Family, Lucy naturally couldn’t stay away.
Before leaving, she was understandably a bit resentful; she and Jas had planned to finally be together genuinely. Now that she’s leaving, who knows when she’ll be back.
"Jas, when I return, you must fulfill what you promised ." In the airport parking lot, Lucy leaned against Jas’s chest, pouting like a girl in love.
Jas gave her a light kiss on the lips and said, "Of course, your sudden departure makes quite disappointed too."
"Hehe, then wait for properly."
"Mm!" Jas nodded earnestly.
Lucy caressed below Jas’s abdon reluctantly before getting out of the car. Jas waited for her to pass through security before leaving.
With Lucy gone, Jas clearly felt a lot freer, but he still had to return to the company to work. Life seed to return to normal—all about going to work, coming ho, picking up the kids, cooking—a peaceful routine filled with sweetness.
Even though Emily Berns and Helen Wilson seed to be united, there hadn’t been much movent these days. Emily still ca to Jas’s house every day, playing and spending ti with their daughter, visibly improving their relationship.
When it ca to Emily Berns and Helen Wilson, Jas could only take things as they co, dealing with situations as they arise, because both won were ones he didn’t want to provoke.
That evening, Gina and Sandra both had plans, so Jas and Emily Berns went together to pick up their daughter from kindergarten.
Emily accidentally bumped into a woman in her forties, who turned briefly to face Jas and Emily, then continued walking, while Emily approached the front gate as the children were about to co out.
"Hey... aren’t you Jas?" The woman suddenly turned around, stared at Jas, and tentatively asked.
Jas carefully looked at the woman, and quickly recognized her, saying with delight, "Aunt Grandma, it’s , Jas."
The woman imdiately grabbed Jas’s hand excitedly, looked him up and down, and said with joy, "You really are Jas. There was no news for so many years, I thought I’d never see you again. I never imagined we’d et here."
Before Jas’s parents passed away, he had so relatives; though he did not have grandparents, there was an uncle on his father’s side, and three aunts on his mother’s side. But after his parents passed away, Jas rarely contacted them, and after joining the army, he completely lost touch with them.
By the ti I returned to YODC City once more, the places where these relatives lived were already changed beyond recognition, and I could no longer find them.
Upon seeing his relatives again, John Brown felt quite emotional and said, "Aunt, you’re still in good health, and how is Uncle doing?"
"Good, good, everyone is fine, and Little Charlie is about to get married. Today, I’m here to buy things for his wedding."
John Brown exclaid with surprise, "Little Charlie is getting married, that’s really fast. When I left, he was just starting middle school."
"Little Charlie didn’t go to college. After graduating high school, he went out to work for several years. In the countryside, people marry early, so we decided to let him start a family and establish a career early. The wedding is this weekend. You must co back then and let a few aunts see you. My eldest sister passed away early; I’ve never been able to take care of you all these years. I really owe it to my eldest sister."
Aunt, saying this, couldn’t help but shed tears. John Brown felt a tinge of sorrow in his heart but was more moved. These aunts were among John Brown’s closest relatives, and their concern made him feel that long-lost familial affection.
"Aunt, don’t worry about , I’m doing quite well."
"Really? What are you doing now? Are you married?"
Just as John Brown was about to answer, Little Violet had already been picked up by Emily Berns, excitedly coming to John Brown’s side, calling crisply, "Dad, Dad, today I got another Red Little Flower."
John Brown imdiately picked up Little Violet, gave her a kiss first, and said, "My daughter is so smart. Co, this is your Aunt Grandma, greet her."
Little Violet looked at John Brown’s aunt and crisply said, "Hello, Aunt Grandma."
"Good, good!" John Brown’s aunt looked at Little Violet with delight. This little girl, like carved jade, was simply too adorable. Even more joyous was that John Brown actually had a daughter.
"Jas, this is..." Emily Berns stood beside John Brown like an obedient little wife, gently holding onto his arm.
John Brown was in a good mood at the ti and didn’t mind Emily Berns getting close, so he smiled and said, "This is my Aunt, my dear Aunt. I haven’t seen her for many years."
"Ah, it’s Aunt? How rude of , hello Aunt."
John Brown’s aunt was looking Emily Berns up and down, her eyes filled with joy, nodding repeatedly and saying, "Jas has real ability to marry such a pretty wife. She looks like a big star."
John Brown broke into a sweat silently. This aunt was really sharp; she unknowingly hit the mark. However, when outside, Emily Berns would always wear so makeup, and cover herself up rather well, so generally, people didn’t know she was the big star Emily Berns. The main thing was that no one would expect Emily Berns, the big star, to be hiding away in a place like YODC City recently.
Emily Berns smiled shyly, saying, "Aunt, you’re flattering . I’m not that great."
"How are you not? You’re good-looking, well-educated, and sensible. Our Jas is truly blessed."
Emily Berns felt even more delighted inside, saying, "Aunt, since we’ve bumped into each other, why not co to our house for dinner tonight, and get familiar with the place?"
"Oh my, I really should, but I’m in a rush to head back today. How about this: this weekend you all can co to our family’s Little Charlie’s wedding, et your Aunt Mary and the others, and then later we’ll visit your house. Right, Jas, leave your phone number. You’ve been away for so many years without a word, making us worry. Call us sotis in the future, and if you’re in any trouble, you can also reach out for help."
John Brown quickly gave his phone number to his aunt. Emily Berns also deliberately gave her own number to John Brown’s aunt, saying, "Aunt, Jas is sotis busy. I don’t do much, so feel free to call . We can have a chat."
"Good, good." Aunt looked more and more satisfied with Emily Berns, but indeed had things to do, so she hurriedly left in the end.
John Brown originally wanted to see his aunt off, but she left in such a rush that by the ti he wanted to say sothing, she had already gotten into a taxi and left.
Sitting in the car, Emily Berns still wore a big smile. John Brown couldn’t help but find it amusing, saying, "Emily Berns, you did that on purpose, didn’t you?"
Emily Berns lifted her small face proudly and said, "You’re right. I did do it on purpose. Now, in your aunt’s eyes, it’s all about , her niece-in-law. If you don’t bring back when you return, see how they’ll talk about you."
John Brown was montarily speechless. Emily Berns was right, his three aunts were honest and simple people. If he brought back different won, they would definitely criticize him. Now attending his cousin’s wedding, not bringing Emily Berns back wasn’t an option.
"Oh dear, this is such an important occasion. What kind of clothes should I wear? Can you tell if I should dress more flamboyantly or plainly? If I dress too flamboyantly, I fear it’ll attract too much attention, but if too plain, I’m afraid it’ll lose face for you. It’s quite a dilemma. Do give so advice."
Seeing Emily Berns so enthusiastic, John Brown was even more at a loss for words. It seed there was no clear solution this ti.
