The woman slowly walked towards Jas Brown and Lucy Campbell. As she erged from the shadows of the trees, Jas imdiately recognized her as Sophia, the sa woman he had encountered on the cruise ship playing with throwing knives and spent three days with on the island. Jas had thought he would never et her again, but here she was, having found her way to him.
Jas was already quite aware of this woman’s abilities and knew she was definitely a dangerous person. At such a distance, Jas was not entirely confident that he could protect Lucy from her throwing knives. So, he imdiately pulled Lucy behind him, shielding her with his own body.
If soone were to use a gun, there would be ti for Jas to dodge when it was raised and the trigger was pulled. But when Sophia threw her knives, there was no such warning. Even though bullets travel faster than knives, the absence of that preparation ti made dodging her knives all the more difficult. Therefore, Jas always considered Sophia’s knives to be more dangerous than a gun.
"You really take care of your woman, don’t you?" Sophia spoke blandly as she stepped onto the path.
Jas ignored her remark and instead asked gravely, "Are you here for , or do you have a different assignnt?"
Sophia lifted her head to et Jas’s gaze and said, "I’m here for you."
"What for?" Jas secretly sighed with relief. As long as Sophia wasn’t there to kill Lucy, he could deal with anything else.
Sophia nonchalantly replied, "I told you, if you could dodge my five throwing knives, I would be your woman. I’m here to fulfill my promise."
"What?" both Jas and Lucy exclaid in astonishnt.
"I, Sophia, always keep my word. I would never go back on my promise," Sophia said as she took a step toward Jas.
"Wait..." Jas held up his hand, urgently saying, "That was just a joke. Can’t you take it as not serious?"
"Sorry, I don’t joke, and I swore an oath to myself. I can’t break my own vow."
Jas took two steps back with Lucy, saying, "Alright... if I don’t agree, then it doesn’t count as you breaking your vow, right?"
"That’s right!" Sophia stopped in her tracks, looking coldly at Jas.
Jas exhaled and smiled, "Alright, let reiterate. I don’t need you to be my woman. You can leave now."
"Though this doesn’t break my vow, it is the greatest insult to . I can’t kill you, but I can kill all your won to cleanse my disgrace."
"What?" Jas’s eyes widened in shock.
Sophia remained cold as ice, "I know you live in this neighborhood, and your family resides in that building."
Jas’s face darkened, "Are you serious?"
"Yes, I’m not joking."
Jas’s mind raced. He could see that Sophia was serious. If he refused her now, she could indeed carry out her threat. With an expert like Sophia, it was nearly impossible to defend against her, especially when her target wasn’t just Lucy but everyone around him. He couldn’t protect them all simultaneously.
The best solution would be to subdue or kill Sophia, but Jas knew this was a daunting task unless she forced a life-or-death confrontation. Otherwise, he would have to resort to stealth tactics, but against a master like Sophia, even that was risky, and failure would leave him with no future opportunity.
After much thought, Jas said, "Sophia, I have no intention of insulting you. Since you wish to honor your vow, I accept it. However, there isn’t a ti limit to fulfill this vow, is there?"
Sophia nodded.
Jas was overjoyed, "That’s great. We can postpone this promise for twenty years. What do you think?" By then, we’ll both be in our forties, nearing fifty, and all matters will have long ceased to matter.
"No, that still insults ."
"Fifteen years then."
"No."
"Ten years, surely ten years is acceptable?" Jas stared at Sophia.
"One year. I’ll give you no more than a year. If you still haven’t agreed to let be your woman by then, I’ll kill all your won, and I will stay in this city to watch over you. Running away won’t work."
At that mont, Jas was filled with gnarled resentnt towards Sophia, a woman so stubbornly determined to beco his woman.
His eyes flickered with a thought, suddenly having a new idea. With such a cheap bodyguard at his disposal, why not use her? He said, "Alright, actually, I need to see your sincerity. Since you insist, then over the next year, ensure the safety of the won around . Only then can I be sure that you’re serious about being my woman."
Sophia looked at Jas without speaking, clearly hesitating, as agreeing to this would an taking on a rather troubleso task.
Jas quickly used a challenge tactic, "What? Can’t handle it? If you can’t, then sorry, you don’t qualify to be my woman. This isn’t my choice."
"Fine, I agree!" Sophia took the bait and agreed.
Jas silently chuckled and said, "We have a deputy director nad Helen Wilson at the Public Security Bureau. She’s currently investigating a drug case and might be in danger. She’s also my woman. Protect her secretly without revealing yourself. This may be difficult for you. If you don’t agree, I don’t bla you."
"I agree." After saying these three words, Sophia turned and quickly vanished from Jas’s sight in the blink of an eye.
Jas exhaled a long breath, feeling rather frustrated as he said, "How did I get tangled up in this ss."
Lucy chuckled softly, "Sophia is quite a beautiful woman, and a foreigner too, isn’t that a nice change for you?"
Jas rolled his eyes at Lucy, "What change? Am I the kind of person who always seeks excitent?"
"Hehe, that’s common for n, but speaking of it, haven’t you now gotten a cheap bodyguard? I think it’s quite a good deal too."
Jas couldn’t help but feel a little proud, "Exactly, wear her out, and eventually, she’ll calm down. I can’t handle a woman like that, who knows what she’s hiding, might accidentally cut off my little brother before I realize it."
Lucy instantly burst into a fit of laughter. Sharing such risque jokes with Jas only served to strengthen their bond.
When they arrived ho, only Emily Lopez was downstairs, Gina Lopez had gone upstairs to work, and Little Violet had already gone to sleep. The sofa was much more spacious than before, and with the air conditioning on, the room was warm. Emily lay on the couch in a small spaghetti strap nightdress. Although Gina had said so, Emily was always mindful of boundaries. Her absence allowed more ti for Jas and Gina to be together, and she was satisfied with visiting occasionally.
"Brother-in-law, you’re finally back. I’ve been waiting for you forever," Emily propped her head up and pouted at Jas.
"Waiting for for what?" Jas asked offhandedly.
"To give a foot rub, of course." Emily blinked playfully at Jas and then at Lucy, "Lucy, go take a bath so we can both enjoy Brother-in-law’s foot rub. His foot massage skills are top-notch, really relaxing."
Lucy laughed, "That’s great, to enjoy such service at ho, I’ll go bathe now."
"Don’t go upstairs, just wash downstairs," Emily advised again.
Lucy answered and went off to take a bath, while Jas said sothing to Emily before heading upstairs first.
He handed the items Emily Jenkins had brought over to Gina Lopez, who exclaid, "Where did all this stuff co from?"
"It’s a welcoming gift from my brothers to my wife."
"Oh, weren’t these given to Emily? Did you get them back?" Gina knew about this matter, so she realized where the items ca from as soon as Jas ntioned it.
"I didn’t take them back, Emily returned them."
"That’s not good, she returned them and you just accepted?" Gina reproached Jas.
Jas explained to Gina his reasons for accepting the items, and Gina finally understood. She had to admit she really liked them. Besides, they held significance as gifts ant for Jas’s wife, making her feel justified in accepting them.
"Anyways, we should still offer Emily so form of compensation. Otherwise, I’ll feel a bit uneasy."
"Compensation for what? She’s been having als at our house for so long. Not kicking her out is the best compensation."
Gina couldn’t help but smile, thinking of Emily’s personality, she said nothing more.
"By the way, why didn’t you stay with Lucy?"
"She’s in the shower. I’ll be quick."
"Alright, Emily wanted a foot rub, so you better hurry."
"Sure, she did say she wanted one," Jas smiled at Emily Lopez, then went upstairs first.
